HP DeskJet 520 Notes
for Harvard Graphics Ver. 3.0

Installation Notes
------------------
Use the installation utility contained on the "HP DeskJet 520 Printer
Drivers for DOS applications" diskette to copy the printer driver files
to the driver subdirectory on your hard disk (usually \HG3\DRIVER).

IMPORTANT NOTE
--------------
The HP DeskJet 520 printer is compatible with the HP DeskJet 510 prin-
ter. The Harvard Graphics driver included on this driver disk was de-
veloped for the HP DeskJet 510 printer and is recommended for use with
your HP DeskJet 520 printer. Remember to select the HP DeskJet 510 as
your printer model when selecting a printer driver in Harvard Graphics.

Setting Up Harvard Graphics
---------------------------
 1. Start the Harvard Graphics program.

 2. From the F6-Main Menu, press 8 (Setup).

 3. Press 5 (Printer 1).

 4. From the Printer 1 Setup Menu press F3 (Choices).

 5. Use the down arrow key to highlight "HP DeskJet 510".

 6. Press the down arrow key to position the cursor across from
    "Output Port".

 7. Press F3 (Choices).

 8. Use the arrow keys to select the port where your printer is connected,
    then press <Enter>.

 9. Press the down arrow key to position the cursor across from "Default
paper size", then press F3 (Choices).

10. Use the arrow keys to select the correct paper size, then press <Enter>.

11. Use the arrow keys to position the cursor across from "Use spooler".

12. Press F3 (Choices), and select "Yes".

NOTE: Setting "Use spooler" to "Yes" activates the integral spooler
and allows you to return to Harvard Graphics sooner when printing.
With it set to "No", you'll have to wait until the print job is
nearly finished in order to continue working. If you do not wish
to use the integral spooler, (for example, when using an external
hardware or software spooler) set "Use spooler" to "No".

13. Use the arrow keys to position the cursor across from "Quality".

14. Press F3 (Choices).

15. Select one of the following "Quality" options, then press <Enter>.

    High: Presentation/best quality.
Medium: Normal/medium quality (faster printing than "High").
Draft: Use to "proof" your work before printing a final copy.

16. Press <Enter>.

17. Press 1 (Program Defaults).

18. Using the arrow keys, move the cursor down to the bottom of the screen
across from "Max. spooler size (K):".

19. Type 3072 as the spooler size, then press <Enter>.

NOTE: This sets the spooler size to approximately 3Mb. Since
Harvard Graphics creates this 3Mb file on your hard disk, make sure
that you have enough disk space to accommodate it. Lowering the
spooler size will increase the time it will take to free up your
PC while printing. If you are using an external spooler (hardware
or software solution), set the "Use spooler" option to "No" in the
    Printer Setup Menus.

20. Press the Esc key.

Printing from Harvard Graphics 3.0
----------------------------------
 1. From the F6-Main Menu press 5 (Output).

 2. Press 1 (Printer 1).

 3. Check to see if all of the printing information is correct, then press
    F10-Continue to print.

Miscellaneous Notes
-------------------
If white areas of your chart print black (reversed B&W), you may need to
make the following change to your printer setup configuration;

 1. From the F6-Main Menu press 8 (Setup).

 2. Press 5 (Printer 1).

 3. From the Printer 1 Setup Menu select F8 (Options).

 4. From the Printer Options menu set "Reverse black and white" to "No".

HP DeskJet 520 Notes
for Lotus(R) 1-2-3(R) Release 2.3, 2.4

Introduction
------------
Lotus printer device drivers are software programs that enable
printers to print text and graphs from Lotus 1-2-3 Release 2.3/2.4 on
DOS-based PCs.

IMPORTANT NOTE
--------------
The HP DeskJet 520 printer is compatible with the HP DeskJet 510 printer.
The Lotus(R) 1-2-3(R) driver included on this driver disk was developed
for the HP DeskJet 510 printer and is recommended for use with your HP
DeskJet 520 printer. Remember to select the HP DeskJet 510 as your
printer model when selecting a printer driver in Lotus(R) 1-2-3(R).

The DeskJet 510 driver included on the "HP DeskJet 520 Printer Drivers for
DOS applications" diskette is intended to create output in the WYSIWYG
(:Print) publishing environment of 1-2-3 for DOS. This driver is not
intended for use in the 1-2-3 native mode (/Print). However, the "HP
DeskJet+ and 500" driver (shipped with 1-2-3) will allow monochrome
printing from the 1-2-3 native mode.

Installation
------------
To properly install the printer driver files for your DeskJet 520 printer,
you'll need to run the Lotus INSTALL program from your hard disk, then
insert the "HP DeskJet 520 Printer Drivers for DOS applications" diskette
in a floppy drive when prompted. For additional information, refer to the
instructions in Chapter 4 of Getting Started (if you have Release 2.3) or
Chapter 5 of Getting Started (if you have Release 2.4).

Follow these general guidelines:

 1. Select "Change Selected Equipment".

 2. Select "Add New Drivers to the Library".

 3. Insert the DeskJet 520 Driver Disk into a floppy drive.

 4. Type the name of the floppy drive when prompted by the Lotus INSTALL
    program (e.g., A or B).

 5. Select "Modify the Current Driver Set".

 6. Select "Graphics Printer", "HP", then "DeskJet 520".

 7. Select "Return to Previous Menu".

 8. Select "Save the Current Driver Set", then <Enter> to accept the
    default 123 file name.

 9. Press <Enter> at the "GENERATING FONTS" screen.

10. Highlight one of the font options...then press <Enter>.

11. Highlight "Yes" ...then press <Enter>.

12. Press any key to complete the installation.

Setting Up WYSIWYG

 In general, you should do the following;

 1. Select :, Print, Config, Printer ...then use the arrow keys to
select "HP DeskJet 510 Paper" as the printer and media type.

 2. Press <Enter>.

 3. Select Interface ...then use the arrow keys to select the port where
your printer is connected ...then press <Enter>.

 4. Select Bin, then Single-Sheet.

 5. Press <Enter>.

 6. Select the Orientation (Portrait or Landscape) ...then press <Enter>.

 7. Select Quit twice to return to your spreadsheet.

Printing From WYSIWYG
---------------------
The following steps assume that the WYSIWYG add-in program is loaded.

 1. Select ":" to access the WYSIWYG command line.

 2. Select Print, Range, Set ...to select the cells you want to print.

 3. Select Go ...to print.

Miscellaneous Notes
-------------------
 1. The DeskJet 510 printer driver is intended for use in WYSIWYG and
    PrintGraph only.

 2. Graphics will print on either paper or transparencies.

 3. For normal printing in WYSIWYG, the Paper Bin setting should be set to
    "Single-Sheet" for correct page output.
    Select ":", P(Print), C(Config), B(Bin), S(Single-Sheet).

This driver was designed to support the graphic printing capabilities of the
DeskJet 520 printer in WYSIWYG mode. For best results when printing ASCII
text based spreadsheets, it is recommended that you use the"DeskJet+, 500"
driver (shipped with 1-2-3) in the 1-2-3 Native Mode for faster results.

The 1-2-3 drivers contained on the "HP DeskJet 520 Printer Drivers for DOS
applications" diskette are licensed by Lotus Development Corporation, solely

HP DeskJet 520 Notes
for Lotus(R) 1-2-3(R) Release 3.1, 3.4

IMPORTANT NOTE
--------------
The HP DeskJet 520 printer is compatible with the HP DeskJet 510 printer.
The Lotus(R) 1-2-3(R) driver included on this driver disk was developed
for the HP DeskJet 510 printer and is recommended for use with your HP
DeskJet 520 printer. Remember to select the HP DeskJet 510 as your printer
model when selecting a printer driver in Lotus(R) 1-2-3(R).

Copying the Driver Files
------------------------
Copying and installing the driver files for 1-2-3 is a 3-step process.

1. Copy the driver files (using the DRIVER.EXE program contained on the
"HP DeskJet 520 Printer Drivers for DOS applications" diskette) to the
1-2-3 directory on your hard disk. NOTE: The files that are copied and
    decompressed are font files (*.LRF).

2. Run the INSTDRV.BAT utility contained on the "HP DeskJet 520 Printer
Drivers for DOS applications" diskette. This utility merges files
contained on the floppy with those present on your hard disk (in the
1-2-3 directory). (See below for instructions.)

3. Run the Lotus INSTALL program (on your hard disk) to add the drivers
    to your library.

Using the "INSTDRV.BAT" Utility
-------------------------------
Use the installation utility, "INSTDRV.BAT", contained on the "HP DeskJet
520 Printer Drivers for DOS applications" diskette to copy the printer
driver files to the 1-2-3 directory on your hard disk.

 1. Insert the DeskJet 520 DOS Driver Disk into a floppy drive.

 2. From the DOS prompt on your floppy drive (e.g., A: or B:), run
INSTDRV.BAT by typing INSTDRV followed by the full path name of your
1-2-3 directory and the letter of your floppy drive (the floppy drive
    where this disk is located).

    For example: INSTDRV C:\123R3 B ...then <Enter>.

In this example the B: drive is the floppy drive where the driver disk
is located. This batch file will copy all the necessary additional
files to the 1-2-3 subdirectory and will modify the INSTALL.DDF file
already present in the 1-2-3 subdirectory. The existing INSTALL.DDF
    file will be renamed INSTALL.BAK.

Using the Lotus(R) Install Program
----------------------------------
 1. From the 1-2-3 directory on your hard disk type INSTALL ...then <Enter>.

NOTE: Make sure you have copied the WYSIWYG program to your hard
disk during the 1-2-3 installation. The following procedures will
vary slightly if you have not yet completed the Lotus Install
program's "First-Time Installation" process. We recommend that you
complete the First-Time Installation without installing printers,
then follow the steps below to modify your installation and set up
      your DeskJet 520.

 2. Highlight "Change Selected Equipment" ...then press <Enter>.

 3. Highlight "Modify Current DCF" ...then press <Enter>.

 4. Highlight "Change Selected Printer" ...then press <Enter>.

 5. Highlight "HP" ...then press <Enter>.

 6. Press the up arrow to select "HP DeskJet 510" ...then press <Enter>.

 7. Press <Enter> again to select "Paper".

NOTE: If you don't want to use transparencies with your printer,
you can skip to step #12. Otherwise continue with step #8.

 8. Highlight "Change Selected Printer" ...then press <Enter>.

 9. Highlight "HP" ...then press <Enter>.

10. Press the up arrow to select "HP DeskJet 510" ...then press <Enter>.

11. Highlight "Transparency" ...then press <Enter>.

12. Press <Enter> (to Return to Menu).

13. Highlight "Save Changes" ...then press <Enter>.

14. Press <Enter> to accept the changes you've made.

15. At this point in the installation you may need to have your 1-2-3
master disks available. Type the letter for the floppy disk drive
you'll be using ...then press <Enter>.

16. In the "Generating Fonts" opening screen press <Enter> to continue.

17. Highlight one of the font options ...then press <Enter>.

18. Highlight "Yes" ...then press <Enter>.

19. Press any key to complete the installation.

Setting Up 1-2-3
----------------
In general, you should do the following;

 1. Select /, Worksheet, Global, Default, Printer, Name ...then use the
arrow keys to select "HP DeskJet 510 Graphics Paper" as your default
printer and media ...then press <Enter>.

 2. Select Interface ...then use the arrow keys to select the port where
your printer is connected ...then press <Enter>. (SEE NOTE BELOW)

 3. Select Pg-Length, type 60 (for US Ltr Paper), then press <Enter>.

 4. Select Quit, Update ...to save your default settings ...then Quit.

Printing From WYSIWYG
---------------------
The following steps assume that the WYSIWYG add-in program is loaded.
(If not, press Alt-F10 to load the WYSIWYG program.)

 1. Select ":" to access the WYSIWYG command line.

 2. Select Print, Range, Set ...to select the cells you want to print.

 3. Select Configuration, Printer ...then use the arrow keys to select
either "HP DeskJet 510 Paper" or "HP DeskJet 510 Transparency".
    Press <Enter>.

 4. Select the desired Resolution ...then press <Enter>.
NOTE: "Final" = 300 dots per inch resolution
"Draft" = 150 dots per inch resolution

 5. Select Bin= "Single sheet".

 6. Select Quit, then Go ...to print.

Miscellaneous Notes
-------------------
If you are using the parallel interface connection to your printer, the
printer interface within 1-2-3 should be set to selection 5, "Output
Device LPT1" rather than using the "Parallel 1" selection.

This driver was designed to support the graphic printing capabilities of
the DeskJet 520 printer in WYSIWYG mode. For best results when printing
ASCII text based spreadsheets, it is recommended that you use the
"DeskJet+, 500" driver (shipped with 1-2-3) in the 1-2-3 Native Mode
for faster results.

HP DeskJet 520 Notes
for Microsoft(R) Word, Version 5.5

Installation Notes
------------------
Use the DRIVER.EXE utility contained on the "HP DeskJet 520 Printer
Drivers for DOS applications" diskette to decompress and copy the printer
driver files to the MS Word directory on your hard disk.

Miscellaneous Notes
-------------------
When printing envelopes, the minimum left margin (left edge of return
address) is approximately 0.9".

Graphics printing in landscape mode is not supported.

A problem exists in the driver where strike-out, superscripts, and
subscripts are spaced incorrectly for some proportionally spaced fonts
(CGTimes and Univers).

A problem exists in the driver where small caps do not print correctly
for some of the larger Courier and Letter Gothic fonts.

A problem exists where Letter Gothic 24 pitch, 6 point and 12 point text
will not be justified correctly (the character spacing is incorrect).

A problem exists in the driver where a full page of landscape text may
cause the printer to lose some data and in some cases lock up the printer
(all lights flashing).

These are the printer driver files (PRD files) selectable from the "File,
Printer Setup" menu:

PRD File Name Description of PRD Files
------------- ---------------------------------------------------------
DSK520_P.PRD     Portrait fonts resident in the printer;
Courier (modern a), Univers (roman b), CGTimes (roman c),
                 LetterGothic (roman c).
DSK520_L.PRD     Landscape fonts (resident and cartridge based);
                 Courier (modern a), LetterGothic[7L] (modern e).

Miscellaneous Notes
-------------------
The paper size defaults to US Letter (8.5" x 11"). Use the Layout pulldown
menu to select A4 or other paper sizes and types. Transparency and glossy
media printing is implemented with .bn commands.

Use WSCHANGE to set the super/subscript roll to 0 (.sr 0) to take full
advantage of hardware superscript and subscript positioning. This is
necessary when you are printing graphics adjacent to text and are using
footnotes or explicit subscripts or superscripts.

Stacked envelopes (using MailList) will print with a wide left margin unless
you create a macro to select landscape printing rather than choosing envel-
opes. The minimum left margin is approximately 0.5" in landscape mode,
whereas in envelope mode the minimum is 0.9".

Graphics printing in landscape orientation is not supported.

A graphic image that overlaps another graphic image may cause one of the
images not to print, even though both images may be previewed on screen.
If this problem occurs, resize (shrink) one of the graphics to correct
the problem.
