TR2KDIAG - T1108 16/4 Token-Ring Adapter Diagnostics

Purpose: TR2KDIAG tests T1108 Token Ring adapters
and network cable. When an error occurs, possible causes
and solutions are given to help eliminate the problem.
You should run TR2KDIAG after installation, repair, or if
          you suspect a problem.

Format: [d:][path]TR2KDIAG [/p#] [/i#] [/w] [/b] [/s#] [/t] [/a#]

          /p### Sets the I/O port. Default: A20
/i# Sets the adapter interrupt. Default: 9
/w Sets the adapter to 0 Wait State Pseudo
                         DMA. Default: off
/b Sets the adapter to 16 bit Pseudo DMA.
                         Default: 8 bit
/s## Sets the adapter speed to the value
                         specified. Default: 16 Mbps
/t Runs TR2KDIAG in AUTO TEST mode.
/a############ Sets the adapter address to the given 12
                         character address.

Note 1: Unpredictable results will occur if hardware settings
don't match parameters given on the command line.

Note 2: Until a command has been issued that initializes the
adapter, certain data fields displayed may contain zeroes
or ??? (i.e. Node address, Firmware version and Adapter
         RAM).

Usage: A menu will appear on the screen. The options are
Transmit and Receive Test, Echo Server, Line Monitor,
Open-Close Test, Switch Display, Memory Test, ROM Test
          and Quit.

          TRANSMIT & RECEIVE
The Transmit and Receive Test will transmit data packets
on the network cabling, and check the transmitted and
received data for errors. The options available from
this menu are Internal, Internal Continuous, Echoed,
          Echoed Continuous, and Parameters.

When Internal or Internal Continuous are selected, the
adapter transmits packets to itself. The transmitted and
received data are compared to verify that no data loss or
          corruption has occurred.

Echoed and Echoed Continuous are similar to the Internal
test modes, with the exception that they require another
station on the network to be operating as an echo server.

An echo server will receive packets from stations that
have requested an echo server, and will retransmit the
packet back to originating station. To operate a second
station as an echo server, start TR2KDIAG on the second
station and select "E" from the main menu. Then start
TR2KDIAG on the station to be tested and select the test
          that you wish to run.
Only one echo server is needed per physical network.

Both the Echoed and Internal tests verify that the
adapter transmit and receive hardware are functioning
properly. However, echo mode will more thoroughly test
          the network cabling.

Choosing the Parameters option will bring up a menu that
will allow you to specify the packet size and test
          pattern for transmit packets.

          LINE MONITOR
Line Monitor menu displays five options: Internal Test
Throughput, Echo Test Throughput, Log Errors, Display Log
          Totals and Parameters.

The throughput tests can be operated in either internal
or echoed mode (as described for TRANSMIT & RECEIVE).
Like the transmit and receive tests, the throughput test
is used to verify the transmit and receive functions of
the adapter. In addition, this test will calculate and
display the Kbytes/sec throughput of the adapter. Due to
data checking and other calculations that are performed
in the test, the throughput value that is displayed will
be less than the maximum throughput for the adapter and
should not be used to determine overall adapter
          performance.

The Error Log feature is used to capture and display any
error frames that have been issued by stations on the
network. The node address of the station that issued the
error, and the type of error, will be displayed on the
screen. The error information can optionally be written
to the disk file "TR2KDIAG.LOG". Once the Error Log has
been run, the totals for each node can be displayed by
          selecting the Display Log function.

Choosing the Parameters option will bring up a menu that
will allow you to specify the packet size and test
          pattern for transmit packets.

          ECHO SERVER
Choosing the Echo Server option will designate the
station as an echo server. When a packet is received
from another station, an echo server transmits the packet
back to the packet's originator. No error checks or
changes are made to the packet by the echo server.

          OPEN-CLOSE TEST
The Open-Close Test will repeatedly reset, initialize,
open and close the adapter until a key is pressed. This
causes the adapter to perform its own diagnostics and
ring insertion tests. The results of the tests are
          reported to the TR2KDIAG program.

          MEMORY
The MEMORY option will cause the PC to calculate and
display the amount of RAM that is installed on the
adapter. It will also determine the MAC or LLC revision
level and the BIA address (unless overridden).
