PRODUCT OVERVIEW
================
PowerSCSI! for DOS/Windows/Netware 386 is a total SCSI solution for
Future Domain's line of controllers and integrated circuits (IC).
For DOS and Windows Users
-------------------------
Under DOS and Windows, support is provided for the following SCSI
peripherals :
SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 Fixed Disks
SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 CD-ROM Drives
In addition, the following software interfaces are supported:
Future/CAM (Common Access Method)
ASPI (Advanced SCSI Programming Interface)
Interrupt 13H
Interrupt 4BH
FastDisk (32-bit Disk Access)
CD-ROM Extensions
This extensive SCSI interface support allows you to use various
third party software on any Future Domain SCSI controller and/or
IC on motherboards.
Finally, several DOS utilities are included to exercise your
fixed disks and CD-ROM drives. These are:
FDSDA - Future Domain SCSI Diagnostic Utility
FDDSU - Future Domain Disk Setup Utility
FDAUDIO - DOS CD-ROM Play Audio Utility
FDLOCK - Locks the CD-ROM Door
FDUNLOCK - Unlocks the CD-ROM Door
FDEJECT - Software Eject of CD
FDCDTEST - Exercises the various CD-ROM functions
For Netware 386 Users
---------------------
Under NetWare 386 V4.X, support is provided for the following SCSI
peripherals :
SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 Fixed Disks
SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 CD-ROM Drives
SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 Tape Drives
SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 Removables/MO/Multifunction/WORM Drives
Under NetWare 386 V3.X support is provided for the following SCSI
peripherals :
SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 Fixed Disks
SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 CD-ROM Drives
SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 Removables/MO/Multifunction/WORM Drives
In addition, the following software interfaces are supported:

NEW IN THIS RELEASE
===================
The following are the highlights of this latest release of PowerSCSI!
for DOS/Windows/Netware 386:
New and improved Setup program for both DOS and Windows.
Supports all new Future Domain controllers for PCI and PCMCIA
system bus.
Supports auto-configuration for hard disks and CD-ROM devices
on the SCSI2GO PCMCIA card. SCSI2GO cards can be plugged and
unplugged without rebooting. Device attached to the SCSI2GO card
may be auto-configured so they may be inserted
Advanced Power Management (APM) is fully supported under DOS and
Windows for all 16-bit controllers and PCMCIA cards and 32-bit
PCI controllers.
CD-ROM driver has enhanced features which includes support for:
CD-I
CD-XA
CD-R
Additional CD-ROM drives supported. For a list of all the CD-ROM
drives supported contact the Marketing Department at the address
listed at the bottom of this README file.
Supports 32-bit File Access in Windows for Workgroups v3.11.
New and improved SCSI drivers for both v3.xx and v4.xx versions
of Netware 386.
INSTALLATION
============
For DOS and Windows Users
-------------------------
Installation of the drivers and utilities is accomplished by running
the SETUP.EXE program. This program can be run from either the DOS
shell or the Windows Program Manager. If you are using Windows, we
suggest that you run SETUP.EXE from the Program Manager. We also
encourage you to use the 'Express' installation option to minimize
possible configuration conflicts.
SETUP.EXE will determine what drivers your system will need and
modify some or all of the following files after it had saved the old
copies:
CONFIG.SYS
AUTOEXEC.BAT
SYSTEM.INI
You will then be required to reboot your computer system after all
the modifications have been made.
The DOS SCSI Utilities that are in the DOSUTILS subdirectory can be
copied to your fixed disk for later reference. These utilities are to
be used only for SCSI disk preparation (FDDSU.EXE) or for diagnostic
purposes (FDSDA.EXE).
For NetWare 386 Users
---------------------
An INSTALL.EXE program is provided in the NETWARE subdirectory to
copy the appropriate Netware 386 Drivers to your Netware Server
directory. For more information on the NetWare 386 Drivers refer to
the README.NOW file in the NETWARE subdirectory.
TECHNICAL TIPS
==============
If you have a PCI system and are having problems with EMM386.EXE
loaded, you need to upgrade to EMM386.EXE v4.49 shipped with
MS-DOS v6.22. At this time, the EMM386.EXE in PC-DOS v6.x still has
problems with PCI systems. Use another memory manager or contact
IBM Corp. for more information.
Under MS-DOS Version 6.0 or later, if you have a SCSI configuration
that depends on conditionally executing AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS
file, you need to move the PowerSCSI! drivers to the appropriate
section(s) of your system files. The PowerSCSI! Setup program will
create a file with the extension MCF (CONFIG.MCF and/or AUTOEXEC.MCF)
that will contain the driver lines that you can later use to modify
your CONFIG.SYS and/or AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
If you are using the AST PowerExec 433/SL, make sure that the Card
Services driver (CS.EXE) in the CONFIG.SYS file specifies the command
line switch : /IRQ A
The following portable computer is not supported:
- HP Omnibook 300/450
If you are using Windows on a Gateway 2000 Colorbook and are having
problems with PowerSCSI!, comment out the driver V18FCAMD.386 in the
[386Enh] section of your SYSTEM.INI file.
If you have a notebook that uses the Databook PCMCIA Adapter and
are having problems you need to upgrade to the Card and Socket
Services v3.02 or later available from Databook Incorporated.
If FDBIOS.SYS is loaded to support a primary partition and an IDE drive
is present which has an extended partition, the drive letters and
volume labels displayed by DOS FDISK are incorrect. In this case
drive letters are allocated to the IDE drive first and then the SCSI
drive instead of primary partitions followed by extended partitions.
To install the TMC-7000EX drivers under DOS/Windows you have to
run SETUP from the DOS prompt and not from within Windows. If you
intend to run SCSI drivers and/or applications in Windows you must
add the following line to the [386Enh] section of your SYSTEM.INI
file:
DEVICE=C:\PWRSCSI!\VEXFCAMD.386
In addition, if your system has a SCSI hard disk you may take advantage
of the 32-Bit Disk Access Support under Windows by adding the following
lines to your SYSTEM.INI file:
DEVICE=C:\PWRSCSI!\FDSCSI.386
DEVICE=C:\PWRSCSI!\INT13.386
32BitDiskAccess=ON
NOTE: You have to manually copy the appropriate .386 files from the
PowerSCSI! for DOS/Windows/NetWare 386 diskette to the
C:\PWRSCSI! directory. All the .386 drivers are located
in the WINDOWS subdirectory of the diskette.
If the TMC-7000EX is present in a system with other SCSI controllers,
the following restrictions apply :
(1) No more than one TMC-7000EX BIOS should be enabled in the system.
(2) If the TMC-7000EX BIOS is configured, it should be set to the
highest ROM address of all the SCSI controllers present.
The Conner Backup Exec V3.1 for Windows is not supported in this
release of PowerSCSI!. Please contact Conner for an updated version
of the software.
The Interrupt 4BH Interface driver (INT4BCAM.SYS) does not support
hot pluggability in the SCSI2GO card. We suggest that all devices
using Interrupt 4BH calls be installed prior to booting your
system.
Future Domain does not recommend any specific version of CD-ROM
Extensions. If you have any problems with your CD-ROM extensions
you will need to contact the specific vendor.
On a SCSI2GO configuration, issuing DOS commands to an unplugged
CD-ROM drive may take longer than expected for DOS to return with
an "Abort, Retry, Fail?" message. This is an expected behavior.
