*ALLOCATE BUFFER
*SELECT ADAPTER
This menu displays the controllers that were found
in the system. If more than one controller is
found, a controller must be selected to scan for
devices. Use the and keys to highlight the
desired controller. Press the <Enter> key to
select the controller. To quit without selecting,
press the <Esc> key.
*SELECT DRIVE
This menu displays the SCSI devices that were
found on the selected SCSI controller. Select a
drive to be tested. Use the and keys to
highlight the desired device. Press the <Enter>
key to select the device. To select a device not
present on the Drive Selection Menu, use the <F5>
key to manually select one. To return to the
previous menu, press the <Esc> key.
*FORMAT UNIT
The SCSI Format Unit Command requires two parameters,
the Defect List Format and the Interleave value.
Refer to your SCSI device's manual for the correct
values to use. Highlight the appropriate option for
each of the two parameters with the use of the and
keys and press <Enter> to select.
Use this command with extreme caution. All data on
the disk will be lost.
NOTE: This option does not issue a Mode Select SCSI
Command so the device's default parameters will
be used. Use the Future Domain Disk Setup Utility
if the device's parameters need to change.
Press <Esc> to return to the previous menu.
*START/STOP
Use the and keys to highlight the desired option
and press <Enter> to select.
The Start Unit option will issue a START/STOP UNIT
SCSI Command with the "Start" field set to 1 (spin
up). The Stop Unit option will issue a START/STOP
UNIT SCSI Command with the "Start" field set to
0 (spin down).
Press <Esc> to return to the previous menu.
*LOCK/UNLOCK
Use the and keys to highlight the desired option
and press <Enter> to select.
The Lock Medium option will issue a PREVENT/ALLOW
SCSI Command with the "Prevent" field set to 1
(prevent removal). The Unlock Medium option will
issue a PREVENT/ALLOW SCSI Command with the
"Prevent" field set to 0 (allow).
For some CD-ROM drives, this option disables/enables
the eject button on the front of the drive.
Press <Esc> to return to the previous menu.
*LOAD/UNLOAD
Use the and keys to highlight the desired option
and press <Enter> to select.
The Load Unit option will issue a LOAD/UNLOAD SCSI
Command with the "Load" field set to 1 (load and
position to Beginning-Of-Partition zero). The
Unload Unit option will issue a LOAD/UNLOAD SCSI
Command with the "Start" field set to 0 (unload).
Press <Esc> to return to the previous menu.
*SELECT TEST ADAPTER
Select the appropriate Controller Type which matches
the currently selected controller. Selecting an
incorrect Controller Type is likely to cause errors.
*USER SELECT
If an attached SCSI drive is not found on the Drive
Selection Menu, you can select a SCSI device from
here by entering the Device Type, ID and LUN
manually. Select the Device Type by highlighting
the desired option with the and keys and
pressing the <Enter> key. Then enter the ID and
LUN of the SCSI device. Valid numbers for the ID
are from 0 to 6 and for the LUN from 0 to 7.
To return to the previous menu, press the <Esc> key.
*GET PARAMETERS
These parameters are used in configuring the SCSI
Commands. In most cases, the default values are
sufficient. Just press the <Enter> key and continue
on.
If you have an 8-bit Future Domain controller and
are experiencing some data transfer problems, try to
change the Read/Write Block Factor A and Read/Write
Block Factor B values. You may also try to disable
the Burst Mode. Disabling the Burst Mode will cause
data transfer to slow down.
The Block Length is the sector size of the device.
You should not modify this unless you are familiar
with the behavior of the device under a different
sector size.
If there is a need to modify the default values, put
the cursor on the field to be modified and change
the value. Press the <Enter> key to accept the
value in each field.
To return to the previous menu, press the <Esc> key.
*GET TEST
This window displays the SCSI Command Block bytes,
the timeout value in seconds, the expected number of
data bytes transferred and the Block Factor A and
Block Factor B values. The -1 value in the Timeout
field means indefinite wait. In most cases, the
default values are sufficient. If you desire to
modify any of the values in this windows, place the
cursor on the field to be modified and change the
value. Press the <Enter> key to accept the new value.
To issue the SCSI command, press the <F10> key.
To return to the previous menu, press the <Esc> key.
*MAIN MENU
This menu is broken down into two sections. The
first section displays the most common SCSI commands
that can be issued to the specified SCSI device.
The second section displays some miscellaneous
options to diagnose the SCSI controller,
reselect a SCSI controller or device and an
option to Reset the SCSI bus.
NOTE: If a SCSI command is not listed in the menu,
select the Custom SCSI Command option to create a
user defined command block.
Enter the number or letter corresponding to the
desired option and press the <Enter> key.
To return to the previous menu, press the <Esc> key.
*END-USER MENU
This menu displays up to six test options depending
on the type of device being tested. The following
provides a short description of each of the
different options.
Controller Diagnostics
This option tests the ROM (Read Only Memory),
the RAM (Random Access Memory) and the Data
Path of the controller. The ROM and RAM tests may
not be performed if their presence is not detected.
Device Diagnostics
This option sends a SEND DIAGNOSTIC SCSI Command
to the SCSI device. This command requests the
SCSI device to perform a self diagnostic.
Test Unit Ready
This option issues a SCSI Test Unit Ready Command
to the device.
Get Device Status
This option displays the status of the last SCSI
command sent to the device.
Read Test
This option issues SCSI Read Commands to the entire
media of the SCSI device.
Read/Write Test
This option issues a SCSI Write Command and then
issues a SCSI Read Command to verify the integrity
of the media. This test is performed on the entire
media of the SCSI device. WARNING: This test will
destroy all the data on your media!
Enter the number corresponding to the test option
desired and press the <Enter> key to select the
option. To return to the previous menu, press
the <Esc> key.
