STPRSCSI.ADD Adapter Device Driver
==================================
Installation Format:
BASEDEV=STPRSCSI.SYS [/Dn] [/Wn] [/Sn] [/Zn]
[/In] [!SM or /SM] [!DM or /SM]
/Dn - define how many SCSI drives are attached.
n must be 1 - 7, if n is 1 only SCSI ID 0 drive
is checked, if n is 2 only SCSI ID 0, 1 drives
are checked.
Default value is 7.
/Wn - define how many seconds to wait time for drive to
be stable during POWER ON time.
n must be 0 - 1800.
Default value is 5.
/Sn - set the starting search port access speed level for
printer port. If this parameter is not specified,
driver will try from the fastest speed level 0, and
then level 1, level 2 until level 9 automatically,
If none can meet the port access speed, level 0 will
be assumed.
n must be 0 - 9.
Default value is 0 (the fastest level).
/Zn - n is a byte-length value
bit0 = 1, use the slower handshaking speed with low speed
device
0, use the normal handshaking speed with device
(default)
bit1 = 1, suppress bi-direction mode
= 0, will not suppress bi-direction mode (default)
bit2 = 1, suppress uni-direction emulation mode
= 0, will not suppress uni-direction emulation mode
(default)
bit3 = 1, suppress Enhanced Parallel Port mode
= 0, will not suppress Enhanced Parallel Port mode
(default)
/In - Allow changing the Parallel/SCSI Converter host adapter
SCSI ID. 'n' stands for the new ID.

!DM - Disallow the OS2DASD.DMD controlling the devices.
The driver's features include the following:
- supports PS/2 standard or PS/2 compatible (such as Winbond
W83757) bi-direction printer port and Enhanced Parallel
Port for Intel 82360, SMC37C665, 37C666 and NS Super I/O
chips.
- drives SCSI hard disks, magneto-optical drives, and
removable cartridge disks, tape drives, floptical drives,
floppy drives, scanners, processors, CD-ROM drives and etc.
- supports on-line disk change for removable drives.
- compatible with OS/2 2.0 and above
- drives up to 7 disk drives simultaneously.
Following files are also needed for different applications, those
files should come with your OS2 software distribution diskette.
For Disk application-- OS2DASD.DMD
For CD-ROM application-- OS2SCSI.DMD, OS2CDROM.DMD, CDFS.IFS
For ASPI application-- OS2ASPI.DMD, VASPI.SYS
For any other SCSI application, for example, scanner-- OS2SCSI.DMD

V. Diagnostic utility
Note: Run this utility through any DOS icon of the presentation
manager only.
A comprehesive diagnostic utility is provided as "PSDIAG.EXE".
Type "PSDIAG.EXE" to execute the diagnostic utility.
The diagnostic utility will scan through parallel ports supported
in the system and display the results. Should any problems happened
please run the utility and write down the results before calling the
technical support.
Most of other diagnostic software such as MSD, QAPlus/FE, LapLink V,
and QBench had no problem accessing hard drives with converter.
VI. Technical tips
**************
Use this section as supplement to the Trouble Shooting section in the
manual.
a. ASPI compatible applications tested:
CorelSCSI, CorelSCSI Version 2( OS2 ), NovaBack( OS2 ).
b. A simple DOS based diagnostic software is included if you ever run
into some problems.
c. If you had bought a Parallel/SCSI Converter Plus and got hung during
initialization process while using the version 3.0x software. Please
set the /Z parameter bit 3 to 1 to disable auto-sensing for the
Enhanced Parallel Port mode. For example: If the /Z1 was set
originally, re-set to /Z9; otherwise, set to /Z8.
g. If you running the Parallel/SCSI Premium( Polliwog ) on some of the
386SL or 486SL notebooks ( like IBM Thinkpad series, AST PowerExec
series, Compaq Ultralite series and Toshiba 4600x) and got blanked
out during the initialization, be sure setting the parallel port
address selection to 378h or 278h only. Most of the host computer
with EPP mode on will only support the address selection for 378h
and 278h.
h. The Parallel/SCSI Converters are certified by the laboratory of Corel
Corp. listed as PAR/SCSI from April 1994.
i. NEC Triple Spin Series If after the installation you are unable to
access your NEC CD-ROM, try changing the /Z parameter in your
CONFIG.SYS to /Z7. If about method still does not work out, you
need to plug in the auxiliary +5V power adapter.
j. If you are using the Compaq LTE Elite 4/75CX notebook computer,
put the /Z4 at the end of STPRSCSI.ADD to disable the
uni-directional byte mode. Otherwise, the system will hang.
k. If you are using CD-ROM ( ex. Plextor 5028 ) and having problem
doing "DIR d:" or reading the file, make sure increasing the
buffer size for "VALUE" to a bigger number like 180 or add /Z1
at the end of the device driver command line to slow done the
handshaking.
l. HOW TO INSTALL THE OS/2 3.0( WARP ) FROM THE Parallel/SCSI
Converter:
a. Backup all of the data on the target partitions or drive you
want to install the OS/2 3.0.
b. Bring up the system in DOS or OS/2 1.x, 2.x and install the
Parallel/SCSI Converter with CD-ROM drive attached.
c. Insert the OS/2 3.0 CD-ROM diskette into the drive.
d. Type "dir" on the CD-ROM drive. You should find the
"CDINST.BAT" file.
e. Type "drive:\CDINST" and follow the instructions.
f. The installation program will prompt you to prepare two blank
diskettes and will write the operating system onto them.
g. When the message "Leave the installation diskette in the drive
and prepare to re-boot" shows up, be sure to pop-out the diskette
and find the CONFIG.SYS file in either of the two diskette( you
may want to do this on different system ). Edit/Insert a command
line as the following( close to the bottom of the file ):
BASEDEV=STPRSCSI.ADD
Save the changed CONFIG.SYS.
Note: The parameters should be identical to what you had
installed in DOS or OS/2 before.
h. Copy the STPRSCSI.ADD file onto the same diskette you just
edited as well.
i. Now, it's the time to put back the diskette originally in the
floppy drive and re-boot.
j. The OS/2 will prompt you to do "Easy-installation" or "Advance
Installation". Choose what you want. It's better to choose
"Format the partition" option to install the new 3.0 version due
to the fact that 3.0 is not compatible with DOS 5.x or O2/2 2.x
partition format very well. System may be hung up during the
installation from our experiences. Also, the system may hang
due to not enough memory. 4Meg is reuqired by OS/2. However,
it's not engough. 8Meg is preferred.
h. Follow the installation message to complete the procedure.
i. Now your Warp 3.0 should be up and the Parallel/SCSI Converter
installed, too.
Please call or Fax Shining to find out about new software
updates & revisions for Parallel/SCSI Plus and Parallel/SCSI
Premium. If you have any comments or complaints, we would love to hear
them.
