PRINT, BACKUP, POWER OFF AND UNPLUG YOUR PC
If a floppy disk came with your hard drive, print the README file.
Make a verified backup copy of the data on your existing hard
drive.
Turn off the power to your PC, touch a bare metal spot on the
chassis of the PC to discharge any static electricity, and unplug
the power cord.
MOUNT THE ADAPTERS TO YOUR C527X HARD DRIVE
Remove the cover from your PC. If a 3.5 inch hard drive mounting
location exists, do not attach the additional hardware, go to the
section called "Setting The Hard Drive Jumper."
If you have a 5.25 inch mounting location, remove the hard drive
from its anti-static bag and use 4 of the screws included with
your hard drive to attach the 5.25-inch adapters. You may also
attach the front panel. One screw must be used on each side.
MOUNT THE TRAY TO YOUR C543X HARD DRIVE
Remove the hard drive from its anti-static bag and use the 4
screws included with your hard drive to attach the tray.
SETTING THE HARD DRIVE JUMPER
Locate jumper J20 on the PCA. (Refer to the Microsoft Word file
called "JMPRPIC.DOC" for the jumper location diagram). If you are
adding this hard drive to a system that already has a hard drive,
we recommend this unit become your secondary or "Slave" drive.
To designate this unit as the Slave, remove jumper J20. Confirm
that your other hard drive is configured as the primary or
"Master" drive with "Slave" attached. (Refer to your System
Manual for more information).
Note: The jumper across J23 and J24 is a spare. When configuring
this hard drive in an HP Vectra, install the spare jumper across
pinset J24 to enable Cable Select.
CONFIGURING THE HARD DRIVE AS PRIMARY OR MASTER
If you decide to configure this hard drive as the Master in a dual
drive application, no jumper changes are required, but you should
confirm that your other hard drive is configured as the Slave. If
this hard drive is the only hard drive in the system, no jumper
changes are required.
Cable Select (J24)
Disabled: Jumper removed
Enabled (J20 is ignored): Jumper installed
CONNECT THE IDE RIBBON CABLE C527X SERIES:
Slide the hard drive into its mounting location and connect it to
the IDE hard drive ribbon cable from your PC. Make sure the
stripe that runs along the edge of the cable is aligned with pin 1
on the hard drive IDE connector.
Check the other end of the ribbon cable to ensure that it has
remained firmly attached.
C543X SERIES:
Refer to the appropriate HP Vectra Setup Guide to connect the IDE
ribbon cable to the hard drive.
CONNECT THE POWER SUPPLY CABLE
Connect the power supply cable to the 4 pin power connector on the
back of your hard drive. It will only insert one way. If an
extra power cable is not available, a Y-adapter can be obtained
from your Authorized HP Reseller or HP Technical Support.
MOUNT THE HARD DRIVE IN THE PC C527X SERIES:
Mount the hard drive in your available mounting location using the
mounting screws recommended by your PC manufacturer or the
supplied screws.
If the hard drive doesn't fit, special rails may be required,
contact your Authorized HP Reseller or HP Technical Support.
MOUNT THE HARD DRIVE IN THE HP VECTRA PC C543X SERIES:
Attach the hard drive to the Vectra's mounting hinges. Rotate the
hard drive on its hinges and secure it using the screw provided.
Refer to the appropriate Vectra Setup Guide for specific details.
POWER ON YOUR PC AND RUN THE INSTALLATION UTILITY
Replace the cover on your PC. Plug in the power cord, turn ON the
PC, and allow your PC to start-up. If your hard drive came with
software diskette, go directly to the "Run The Installation
Utility" section. If your hard drive did not come with a software
diskette, proceed to the "Extract Installation Utility From the
Hard Drive" section, to extract the software from the hard drive.
EXTRACT INSTALLATION UTILITY FROM THE HARD DRIVE
Use your system setup utility to change the system CMOS/BIOS to
use the above parameters for your new hard drive. Re-boot your
system. Place a blank diskette in the "A" drive. Change to your
new hard drive (ie type C: or D: and press [ENTER]. At the DOS
prompt, type ONTRACK and [ENTER].
RUN THE INSTALLATION UTILITY
With your PC already running, insert the install diskette into a
floppy drive and type A:DM (or B:DM) and [ENTER] from the DOS
prompt. Follow the installation utility instructions. You may
also be required to update your computers' CMOS/BIOS with the
parameters listed in the "Hard Drive Parameters" section. See
your owners manual for more details.
