IBM's second generation 3.5-inch rewritable Imagestar
optical disk drive offers high performance and high
capacity in a slim one-inch high profile. 230 MB of
storage capacity per removable cartridge is supported
while retaining full compatibility with 128 MB cartridges.
In a slim, one-inch high vertical profile, this Imagestar
delivers superior performance with a 3600 RPM spin rate, a
256 KB read-ahead cache and advanced cache management
features.
The Imagestar MTA-3230 optical disk drive can support a
wide array of data storage applications. In addition to
handling large files, this enhanced rewritable optical
drive is especially well suited for data exchange between
systems and for distribution of information requiring
periodic updates. When a cartridge is filled, you have
the option of either rewriting it or adding additional
230 MB cartridges to your collection.
This Imagestar offers the industry's lowest power
dissipation at only 4.7 Watts average. The power
"sleep mode" cuts power requirements to 1 watt
when not in use. This drive's slim profile and low
power requirements make it ideal for integration into
sub-systems or computers.
As with all other IBM optical drives, this model
features an autowriter calibration sequence. Unique
to IBM, this feature optimizes the laser power used
for read/write operations to ensure consistently high
performance across a wide range of environmental
conditions and media.
The 230 MB Imagestar optical drive attaches via an
industry-standard SCSI-2 interface and can be used
vertically or horizontally for either internal
configurations or as a stand-alone peripheral system.
Media supported includes ECMA-standard rewritable 230 MB
media. ISO-standard 128 MB rewritable media, 230 MB
P-ROM media and 220 MB O0ROM media.
Sophisticated sealing of the optical components gives
enhanced protection against contamination.
