The IBM* OEM 5 1/4-Inch Rewritable Optical Disk Drive and Cartridge
provide removable storage up to 1.3 GB per disk, while at the same time
retaining the capability to process the 595 MB and 650 MB cartridges.
The 5 1/4-Inch Rewritable Optical Drive is particularly suited to the
demanding requirements of optical storage libraries. For enhanced
performance in jukeboxes, this drive has an additional interface to
synchronize the jukeboxes and drive during load/unload operations. A
256 KB read-ahead buffer and cache further improve data transfer
performance.
Combining this performance with IBM's commitment to quality and
and industry-leading reliability, this rugged drive provides an excellent
choice for integration into optical mass storage systems. It is also an
ideal solution for applications requiring high-capacity removable random
access storage.
A principal feature that provides flexibility and is unique to IBM is the
autowrite calibration sequence. This feature optimizes the laser power
used for read/write and seek operations to provide enhanced performance
across a range of environments and media characteristics.
IBM 5 1/4-Inch Rewritable Optical Cartridges have been specially developed
and tested for optimum performance when used with 5 1/4-Inch Rewritable
Optical Disk Drive products.
These drives are compatible with the following standards: 1.3 GB 130 mm
Rewritable Optical Disk Cartridge for Information Interchange ECMA-184
and the 650 MB 130 mm Rewritable Optical Disk Cartridge for Information
Interchange ISO/IEC 10089 1991 (format A). The customer should verify
the usability of non-IBM brand rewritable optical media prior to use
in the 5 1/4-Inch Rewritable Optical Disk Drive.
The 5 1/4-Inch Rewritable Optical Disk Drive is available in five models:
