INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Maxtor, in conjunction with Ontrack Computer Systems, has created
a quick and easy process for installing your Maxtor 3.5 Inch IDE/AT
Hard Drive (hard disk) under DOS or DOS with Windows. Please take
a moment to review the following steps.

STEP 1
If you have not installed your Maxtor Hard Drive into your
computer, please stop and refer to your Maxtor Hard Drive
Installation Guide.

STEP 2
Insert your PC-DOS or MS-DOS diskette into your floppy drive and
turn on your computer. If your Maxtor Hard Drive is going to be
the secondary drive in the system, you may skip using the diskette
and just turn on the system, allowing it to boot from your existing
hard drive. Note that DOS versions 3.3 and higher are supported.

STEP 3
If you booted from your DOS diskette, remove this diskette and
insert the Disk Manager Hard Disk Installation Software diskette
provided in this package. If you booted from your existing hard
drive, insert the Disk Manager diskette and type A: and press
enter.

STEP 4
Type DM and press enter to start Disk Manager. Disk Manager will
automatically load a few programs and check your system
configuration. If Disk Manager is unable to locate the hard drive,
there may be a problem with the cable connections completed when
the hard drive was installed in the computer.

STEP 5
Disk Manager has an extensive on-line help facility. If at any
point during the installation you do not understand your choices
you may press the F1 key for more information.

STEP 6
The first selection on the main menu, "Easy Disk Installation",
will be highlighted. Press enter to choose this selection.

STEP 7
Disk Manager will show you how many hard drives were found in your
system. Confirm the selection (if correct) by pressing enter. If
Disk Manager has detected the wrong number of hard drives, there
may be a problem with the cable connections completed when the hard
drive was installed in the computer.

STEP 8
The types of hard drives displayed on your screen should show the
exact configuration Disk Manager found in your system. Use the
arrow keys to move the highlighted bar over the description of your
Maxtor Hard Drive and press enter.

CAUTION: Be very careful to make the correct selection on this
step. If at any point Disk Manager warns you that existing data or
partitions have been found on your hard drive, press the Esc key to
back up to this menu and verify again that you selected the correct
hard drive to install.

STEP 9
Disk Manager will automatically set up the correct drive type in
your computer and choose the best selection of partitions to
maximize the space available for DOS. At this point, it will
automatically perform the necessary tasks to complete the
installation and let you know when the process is complete.

STEP 10
After Disk Manager has completed the installation, turn off and
unplug the computer. Replace the computer cover, plug in and turn
on the computer. The installation of your Maxtor Hard Drive is
complete.
