S3 86C805 Flat Memory Model Windows 3.1 Driver 2.4B8

Build Date:      July 12, 1994

1.      This is a release for the S3 86C805 product.
2.      The following switches are available for the OEM in the
        Display section of the SYSTEM.INI file:

        POLYGON-SUPPORT=[ON|OFF]
        Up to 400 vertices are supported if the profile string
        is enabled for polygon support.  The default setting is ON.

        ELLIPSE-SUPPORT=[ON|OFF]
        Ellipse and Circle Output - The default value is ON.
        Support consists of Diameters between 2 and 2048 pixels
        and solid or hollow brushes.

        TEXTRMW=[0|1]
        Sets read modify write cycle to fast for text.  The default
        value is 0.

        FASTMMIO=[ON|OFF]
        Set to ON for antivirus programs.  The default value is OFF.

        WIN32-INSTALLED=[ON|OFF]
        Provides compatibility with win32s environment.  The default is ON.

Driver Limitations:

Some of these bugs are considered to be a limitation with the application.


640x480x24bpp only (1MB)

   DCT Disptest:  When prompted to change from full to windowed screen the
   windowed session displays the wrong color screen.  For example, a blue
   instead of white text is displayed in the first windowed screen.  In the
   upper left corner the background color should be black instead of blue.

   Windows 3.1 & MS DOS Shell:  Enter "dir a:" in windows DOS box, it goes
   to full screen and large flickering letters appear.  Enter "a" and Alt-Tab
   back to program manager to return to normal.


4bpp modes only

   PhotoShop 2.5:  24-bpp bitmaps display multiple vertical images.
   Happen in all 4bpp modes.


1280x1024 and 1600x1200

   Corel Draw 5.0 1280x1024x4bpp & 8bpp:  A few pixels are displayed moving
   solid filled objects around the draw area.

   Windows 3.1 - Calendar: A blank window displays after maximizing and
   reducing the Calendar window.  Happens with the 1280x1024 and 1600x1200
   modes at all color depth.

All Resolutions

   Harvard Graphics 1.0: After switching the print layout from landscape
   to portrait, vertical stripes may on the print out of a document
   containing a patterned object.  For example, printing a document that
   has a circle filled with a hash pattern.

   Video for Windows 1.1:  Moving Video for Windows playback screen window
   around leaves broken lines on the desktop when DCI support is enabled.

   Lotus AMI PRO 3.0:  Printing to HP 560C printer will printout chopped
   off text.
