1.0 Supported VESA modes
The VESA modes supported by your mach64 card are dependent upon the
amount of video memory and the monitor type selected in the ADVANCED or
QUICK SETUP.
To determine the modes supported by your current configuration you must
install the mach64 utilities, then run VESATEST from the mach64 directory.
1) Change directory to the C:\ATI\SUPPORT\VESATSR directory and type
"VESATEST".
2) All the modes currently supported will be displayed.

2.0 mach64 VESA TSR
M64VBE is a DOS TSR which supports the VESA BIOS Extension 2.0. The
program provides a standard software access to mach64 graphics adapter
beyond the VGA hardware standard.
If you experience any problems with applications that use VESA modes,
install and run the ATI mach64 Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) VESA
program M64VBE.COM.
The default settings for M64VBE.COM are:
- dual read and write windows enabled
- 320 modes enabled
- Memory aperture enabled
- VGA CRT parameters enabled
To install M64VBE.COM from 64VBE210.EXE:
1) Run 64VBE210.EXE from a DOS prompt. This will extract M64VBE.COM
to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\VESATSR.
2) Change directory to the C:\ATI\SUPPORT\VESATSR (default) and type:
M64VBE <enter> to load the program.
3) Start your VESA application
To un-install the mach64 VESA TSR Change directory to the
C:\ATI\SUPPORT\VESATSR (default) and type M64VBE U <enter>.
Note: If you experience any problems unloading the TSR please consult
your DOS documentation for TSR un-install limitations.

3.0 M64VBE Advanced Switches
If your VESA application continues to experience display problems after
loading M64VBE.COM, you should consult the application's documentation
for specific requirements. If the documentation indicates that it
requires memory aperture disabled, single read and write windows or
accelerator CRT parameter you must use the Advanced M64VBE switches
listed below.
Syntax: M64VBE sw1 sw2... (where sw# represent a valid M64VBE switch)
M64VBE SWITCHES:
s - Enable single window implementation. This single window will be
readable as well as writable.
d - Enable dual read and write windows implementation.
3 - Enable 320x200 & 320x240 modes in 8bpp, 15bpp, 16bpp and 24bpp.
VESA mode number 202h, 10dh, 10eh, 10fh are for 320x200 8bpp,
15bpp, 16bpp and 24bpp respectively. Similarly, VESA mode number
212h, 213h, 214h and 215h are for 320x240.
-3 - Disable 320x200 & 320x240 modes.
vw - Set memory aperture to off.
-vw - Set memory aperture to on.
vga - Use standard VGA CRT parameters.
acc - Use accelerator CRT parameters.
u - Unload or remove M64VBE from memory.

4.0 Known Problems
MOUSE CURSOR PROBLEMS
If you are experiencing mouse pointer trails or any problem associated
with a pointing device, the VESA application may require a single read
and write window. To correct this problem, use M64VBE with the single
window implementation enabled.
Affected applications include:
OPERATION CRUSADER by AVALON HILL
WORD PERFECT TUTORIAL by LEARNKEY, INC.
JOHN MADDEN FOOTBALL
syntax: M64VBE S VGA
1/4 OF THE IMAGE VISIBLE
If the VESA application only displays in the upper 1/4 of the screen the
application may be assuming that the mach64 is a VGA Wonder compatible
card. To correct this problem use M64VBE with the memory aperture off
and VGA CRT parameters.
Affected applications include:
AIR WARRIOR by KESMAI
THE GRANDEST FLEET by QUANTUM QUALITY PRODUCTIONS
FXDRAW by ROBOCFG
syntax: M64VBE VW VGA
BLACK SCREENS OR SYSTEM HANGS
If starting the VESA application causes a black display or locks the
system, the application may not be compatible with Accelerated CRT
parameters. To correct this problem use M64VBE with the standard VGA CRT
parameters enabled.
Affected applications include:
RISE OF THE ROBOTS by TIME WARNER INTER.
HARDBALL IV by ACCOLADE INC.
EIGHT BALL DELUXE PINBALL by AMTEX
DESQVIEW/X by QUARTERDECK OFFICE SYSTEMS
OCEANS BELOW by SOFTWARE TOOLWORKS
syntax: M64VBE VGA
SOME GAMES WILL DISPLAY INCORRECTLY
The program is default to use the VGA CRT timing. Some new games will
require the board set in coprocessor mode to run properly. To enable
the coprocessor mode, run with 'acc' option.
Affected applications include:
JANE'S LONGBOW
11th HOUR
DUKE NUKEM 3D
syntax: M64VBE ACC
