NEWS.PPS OVERVIEW This PCBoard BBS PPL program will display the news file and allow editing if the user is the conference Sysop and the conference NEWS file is not the same file as the NEWS file in the main conference. "WizOp's", sysops w/security of 110+, may change any NEWS file, main or conference. (C) Copyright 1993, Stan Spotts, Philadelphia Area Computer Society IBM SIG IBM SIG BBS: (215) 657-0619 PACS meetings are the third saturday of each month, from 8am to 3:50pm. Various special interest groups (SIG's) meet during this day at Drexel University. The main IBM SIG meeting is held in the Matheson Building, Room M-109, at 32nd & Market Streets. More information about PACS can be obtained from: Philadelphia Area Computer Society, Inc. c/o PACS Box 312 La Salle University Philadelphia, PA 19141 Voice: (215) 951-1255 This program may be modified and used by anyone as long as credit is given to me as the author and the PACS IBM SIG in the source code and documentation. No fee is required, but it would be appreciated by the author if major improvements be forwarded to me at the PACS IBM SIG BBS. I've asked Clark Development Corp. to add a PPL command to give the PPL programmer access to the PCBoard editor (line and full screen), and I've been told it's on the "wishlist." If/When this is implemented, I'll add code to call it to this routine. As it stands now I've only coded enough basic editing functions to make things workable. INSTALLATION Copy the NEWS.PPE file into the directory where you keep your executable PPL programs. We'll use P:\PCB\PPL during these instructions. Run PCBSetup and select: B - File Locations then B - Configuration Files Now move your cursor to highlight: Name/Loc of Default CMD.LST File If you haven't yet specified a file here, do so now. We'll use the filename P:\PCB\GEN\CMD.LST for now. Press [F2] to edit the file. You'll see the following: Command Security PPE/MNU File -or- Keystroke Replacement 1) XXXXXXXXXXXXX XX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Enter "NEWS" for Command and "0" (or whatever security you require to read news) for Security. For the PPE file use the full to the PPL program, in our case it's P:\PCB\PPL\NEWS.PPE. Now simply [Esc] back (be sure to save!) to the main PCBSetup menu and exit. Also be sure to save your mods if you had to specify a new CMD.LIST file. That's it! When you run BOARD.BAT again you'll have the NEWS editing feature available for your sysops. DISCLAIMER I take no responsibility for the action of this program - especially if it's been modified by someone else. I wrote it because the IBM special interest group of our user group has moderators for some conferences that are not given sysop level security, but had to be able to change the news files in their respective conferences - and I certainly didn't want to have to do it for them!
