AdBoard.PPE - Version 1.0 (c)1994 by Ed Curlin of Windmill Computer Services This PPE was written in response to the need for a program to display advertisements on PCBoard BBS. We found one we liked, but the registration fee was TOO MUCH for such a simple program. ($30 for a few hours of work is outrageous...when you multiply it by several people paying that $30 ). Installation of this PPE is simple. Create a separate directory and UNZIP the files into that directory. Then you need to edit two files to configure the PPE for YOUR system. ADBOARD.CFG - the configuration file is as follows: The Windmill BBS 00000000 c:\pcb\ppes\adboard\adboard.dat (N)ext, (P)revious, (Q)uit, (H)elp, AdBoard Command c:\pcb\ppes\adboard\oneliner.cfg Line 1 - Your BBS Name Line 2 - Your registration number (00000000 if unregistered) Line 3 - Complete path to your ADBOARD.DAT file Line 4 - ADBOARD's own prompt string Line 5 - (optional) path to ONELINER.CFG (registered ver) ADBOARD.DAT - the data file telling ADBOARD where to find your advertisements is as follows. 10-11-95 %C:\pcb\ppes\adboard\tandy.ad 10-11-95 %C:\pcb\ppes\adboard\trolley.ad Line 1-nn (as many lines as you need - one ad per line) Format of these lines is ... DATE PATH-TO-AD-FILE The placement of the date MUST start in column 1 and the date must be in the format MM-DD-YY. After the date is a mandatory . Type a "%", then follow immediately with the COMPLETE path and filename of the individual ads. The "%" is a place holder for FUTURE enhancements to ADBOARD. It is not used at present, but it MUST be there for now. The date is an "expiration date" after which the file named in the line will quit displaying. After you have edited these 2 files to conform to YOUR system, you need to tell PCBoard about ADBOARD.PPE. Using PCBSETUP, go to... File Locations Then go to... Configuration files Now press "DOWN ARROW" SEVEN times to get to the line that says: Name/Loc of Default CMD.LST File : Once here, you will need to make sure you have entered a , , and for your own CMD.LST file. Press "F2" to edit this file and add a new line telling PCBoard about your ADBOARD.PPE. Type ADBOARD under COMMAND Type 0 (or whatever sec lev you wish) under SECURITY Type the full path and filename of ADBOARD.PPE under the column headed PPE/MNU Press and save your changes. Press 4 more times and you are ALL DONE. Now just load up your BBS and at the COMMAND prompt, type ADBOARD to cycle through the ads you have created and placed on-line. REGISTRATION: ADBOARD.PPE as delivered is not crippled in any way, there are no hidden features. Registration gets you two things. First is ability to have my BBS name replaced by your own at the end of the program. And the second is the ability to "link" ADBOARD to our ONELINER PPE for a full featured "advertising system" ala PRODIGY. The ONELINER.PPE is "freeware" and displays a "oneline" teaser ad just above you BBS command line. When ADBOARD is registered, you can "link" it to ONELINER, and when the user sees a "teaser" they can get more info by entering "AD" on the command line. If you don't mind the ad for The Windmill BBS and don't want the ONELINER/ADBOARD link-up, then there is no need to register this program. If you do wish to register, send $10.00 (check or money order) (systems outside USA $12.00) to me at: ED CURLIN 211 Kansas St. Geneva, IL 60134-2819 Include the name of your BBS "exactly" as you entered it in the ADBOARD.CFG file above. Create a new account on your system for me in the above name, and tell me what the PASSWORD is. I will call your system and leave you a message with your new registration number. WARRANTY: There is none . The PPE works fine for us, and it should run equally well for you. REQUIREMENTS: ADBOARD.PPE is written and compiled with PPLC v2.0 from Clark Development. It will run only under versions of PCBoard from 15.1 and higher.
