Introduction to the Utility ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ X-name is a little PPLC utility that will prompt your users for their names while keeping things spiffy. It was first a simple modification to my own bulletin board, but as other Sysops logged on, they requested a copy of it as well. So I finally had the chance to make it configurable and release it to the rest of the Sysop world out there. All I ask is that you share this little utility with all of your Sysop buddies, no fee is required. You are probably wondering, "what exactly does X-name do different than PCBoard's standard prompt?". It simply capitalizes the first letter of each name. All other PCBoard command prompt tricks are still available (i.e. press ESC to clear, command stacking, etc.). ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ II. Features of the Utility ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ The following is a list of features of this utility: * Small and will not take up much hard drive space * Configurable Prompt and Text Messages * Configurable Colors * Does NOT require the ANSI emulation * Formats the name entered by capitalizing first letter of each Name * Still supports PCBoard's old prompt Tricks ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ III. Installing the Utility ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ X-name is comprised of two different PPE's, simply so it is closer to PCBoard's old style, yet still adding that simple modification. The installation for X-name is really easy, since it is a prompt replacement all you really need to do is replace to prompts. Use the following procedure if this is your first time replacing a prompt with a PPE. * Execute the MKPCBTXT program * Press F3 and enter 259 * Clear the Existing prompt with the Ctrl-End Key * Enter an exclamation point (!) in the first column, followed immediately by the program path and file name (eg. !E:\PPE\XNAME\FNAME.PPE) * Press F3 and enter 260 * Clear the Existing prompt with the Ctrl-End Key * Enter an exclamation point (!) in the first column, followed immediately by the program path and file name (eg. !E:\PPE\XNAME\LNAME.PPE) * Press ESC until you are out of the editor and your program is Installed Once you have completed the above steps, X-name will setup and ready for running. Keep reading on to find out how to configure X-name's colors to your personal color scheme (if any). ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ IV. Changing Colors and Text ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ You can change what the program will output to the user. Also you can change the colors with the PCBoard @X color codes. Included with this program is a sample text file called XNAME that you can edit. The format for this file is very simple. Check the following list for more information: * Prompt given to the user for their First Name * Prompt given to the user for their Last Name Color codes can be entered in these messages and with the error messages, you can also use the PCBoard @BEEP@ code for a beep warning. You can also create display files that will be displayed prior to the prompting. For example, say you wanted to display a little message about "guest" accounts before actually prompting the user for his/her name. All you would need to do is create a file called FNAME or LNAME (depending on which prompt you would rather display it prior to). * Note: All display file extensions will denote which language the file is used with (this includes XNAME). ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ V. Other Information ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ This program is FREEWARE and requires no fee.
