FidoFind v1.0 Copyright (C) 1995, by Rob Westbrook All Rights Reserved Programming and Documentation by Rob Westbrook Monroe County Online Amory, Mississippi (601) 256-9182 Zoom 28.8k Sysop: Rob Westbrook Netmail: 1:361/212 (Crash Mail Only) Program Description ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FidoFind is a nodelist search utility. It takes a FidoNet address as input, then searches for the BBS information. If the address is found in the nodelist, the BBS name, location, sysop name, and BBS phone number is displayed. FidoFind is very useful to the sysop who sends netmail frequently. It is also useful to BBS's users who use Fido echoes regularly. They can search for BBS information of other echo participants by the Fido addresses they see in origin lines or FROM: fields. System Requiements ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A. PCBoard 15.21+ FidoFind was written with PPLC 3.10. It will not work with PCBoard versions prior to 15.21. B. Enough hard drive space to install FidoFind. The PPE and it related files need about 15k to operate. C. Although not necessary, it is recommended that you put this PPE and all related files into a seperate directory. This makes it easier to update or remove the PPE. It also helps avoid potential conflicts with other PPEs, who may have filenames the same as FidoFind's files. Program Installation ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To install FidoFind, follow the steps listed below. This PPE installs easily and you should be ready to use it in just a few minures. 1. UNZIP the archive into it's own directory. 2. Edit the FIDOFIND.DAT file. This is a file that only has one line. Enter the path to your NODELIST directory. This should be exactly as you entered in PCBSetup | Fido Configuration | File and Directory Configuration | in the Dir of Nodelist Database. EXAMPLE: E:\PCB\NODELIST\ <------ the trailing backslash MUST be present 3. Add the command for this program to you CMD.LST. This is found under PCBSetup | File Locations | Configuration Files. It is in the "Name/Loc of Default CMD.LST" file. Position the cursor over this file name and press F2 to edit. Then press ALT-I to insert a new command. Enter as shown below: COMMAND SEC CHARGE PER PPE/MNU File Specification MIN USE ====== === ========== ============================== FIDOFIND 0 0 0 ..\PPE\FIDOFIND\FIDOFIND.PPE ^^^^^^^^ ^ ^ ^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The command you Security How you wish The COMPLETE path to the PPE wish to use required to charge your for this PPE to use PPE users for using this PPE The PPE is now ready for use. This would be a good time to login and give it a test spin! Future Upgrades ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the future, I hope to add support for using wildcards in the input, so that a group of BBSs may be displayed. I also want to add the ability to search by location, area code, BBS name, and sysop name. Registration ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is no registration required to run this version of FidoFind. It is free for you to use. However, a donation of $5 will be welcome if you find this program to be of use to you. This will help continue the development of FidoFind, which I hope will become a broader utility. Donations can be sent to: Rob Westbrook 503 Woodward St Amory, MS 38821 Contacting the Author ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a FidoNet member, I recieve both PCBoard support echoes. I can be reached on either. I can also be reached via Fido crash mail at 1:361/212. My hub doesn't support routed netmail so crash mail is the only way to me. I also can be reached at rwstbrk@ibm.net or duffer@ra.msstate.edu. The latest copy of FidoFind can be Fido FREQed at anytime except ZMH from 1:361/212 with the MAGIC name FIDOFIND. Thank you for trying FidoFind!
