BDAY.PPE Ver. 1.0 by GŽœŽHŽD S™ŸTWŽRä BDAY.PPE is a PCBoard PPE that works with version 15.2 of PCB or higher. It allows you to give your users a birthday greeting on or after their birthday during login, and it also leaves them a private message if they're doing an automatic mailrun. The default screens and messages included with the PPE can be used, or you can supply your own as long as the file names stay the same. If your user logs in on their birthday, the PPE will display the BDAY.SCR file, and put the BDAY.MSG file into a message from you. If they log in after their birthday, the files will be BELATED.SCR and BELATED.MSG. By default, the message will be addressed to them from SYSOP. In addition, you can give your users your users extra time as a "birthday present". This is configurable in a range of 0 to as many minutes as you'd like to give them. Installing the PPE is easy. The easiest way would be to install it in a screen that's displayed during the logon process. It can also be called from another PPE (assuming you have the PPL compiler to modify an existing PPE and recompile). The BDAY.PPE also requires that you have the Notes PSA installed in PCBoard....that's where their birthday information will be stored. The format of the PPE is as follows: C:\PCB\PPL\BDAY.PPE 20 3 The path information is going to be whatever directory you'll be installing the BDAY.PPE into. The PPE also reads in two command line switches into the program. The first (20 in the example above) is how many minutes you'd like to give the user as a "gift" on or after their birthday. If you want to recognize their birthday, but don't want to give any extra time, just put a 0 for that. The second (3 in the above) is the line of the Notes PSA that you have free for the PPE to use for writing the user's birthday information. Both of the command line switches are REQUIRED for the PPE to work properly. The BDAY.PPE only gives the user their greeting once, either on their birthday if they log on, or within 30 days after their birthday. The extra time is given only once as well, so you don't have to worry about your user getting an extra 20 minutes every time they log onto the BBS in the 30 days following the birthday! Now, the legal stuff.... BDAY.PPE is warranteed to absolutely nothing except take up some hard drive space. BDAY.PPE is being released as "donation-ware". It's completely uncrippled, but donations are always accepted. If you'd like to send a donation, you can send it to: Mark Zec 6404 Gertrude Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44105 It's a small PPE, so I'd make the maximum donation about $5. It didn't take all that long to code it, so it's not worth much more than that. If you'd just like to drop a line about the PPE, just to let me know how you like it, you can send it to the above address, or I can be reached through the U'NI and Intelec PCBSupport conferences, as well as Intelec's PPL conference. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the PPE.
