Jealous of the people who can set up their UUCP software to import email to different conferences? No need to turn green, because now you can do the exact same thing. All you need are the contents of this zipfile: TH-M2C.DOC -- This instruction manual, TH-M2C.CFG -- A sample configuration file, TH-M2C.PPE -- The actual program that does the work. You also need to be using PCBoard 15.21 or higher, as this PPE uses functions that weren't added until the 15.21 beta test. Here's how to set it up: 1) Each address that you want to import to a conference must be unique. So each time you subscribe to a mailing list for this purpose you must use a different email address. For example, you could subscribe to the classic mustangs list as classmust-l@yourbbs.com and the electronic Annals of Improbable Research as miniair-l@yourbbs.com. Or if you're not feeling creative, you could just subscribe to the lists as a@yourbbs.com, b@yourbbs.com, etc. 2) Set up one conference on your BBS for each newsgroup. What you name the conference doesn't matter much, beyond one important point: THERE MUST NOT BE ANY SPACES IN THE CONFERENCE NAME. The conference should also be set up as a MODERATED newsgroup. Tell PCBoard that the moderator's address is the address that submissions to the list should be sent to. The reason for this is that UUOUT program will then send public posts in the conference to the list and private posts to the individual recipient your caller addressed it to. 3) Create a .CFG file. You should have one line for each mailing list. Put the conference number first, then a space, and then the email address that the messages are coming to. For example, on my BBS, I subscribed to the Annals of Improbable Research as list-air@teamhbbs.com, and I post those messages to conference 224, so the entry in my .CFG looks like this: 244 list-air Make sure there are no blank lines in the file, as the first blank line will be treated as the end. (Footnote: if you rename TH-M2C.PPE to some other name, you must rename TH-M2C.CFG to the same name.) 4) Add a line to the event that imports your email. IMPORTANT: TH-M2C.PPE must run _BEFORE_ UUIN.EXE. My line looks like this: pcboardm /ppe:c:\pcb\ppl\th-m2c\th-m2c.ppe Naturally, if you're not using the multiport version of PCBoard, change "pcboardm" to "pcboard", and if you put TH-M2C.PPE somewhere else on your system, change the path to match your setup. ***** Here's a sample mailrun event file (freely adapted from my own event) to make the above a little clearer: UUOUT rem th-sig is a freeware program that puts a BBS signature on outgoing posts. pcboardm /ppe:c:\pcb\ppl\th-sig\th-sig.ppe UUXFER -s holonet pcboardm /ppe:c:\pcb\ppl\th-m2c\th-m2c.ppe UUIN -f ***** Pretty simple, huh? Here's the complicated stuff: TH-M2C.PPE is shareware. That means that the program is copyright: I own the program, and I am the only person who may make changes in how it looks or works. I assign limited rights to distribute the program: you may give a copy to anybody you want as long as you give them the entire package (the ppe, this document file, and the sample cfg file) and as long as you make no changes in any of the files. Since the program is shareware, if you continue using it, you have to register it. Registration costs a mere $5 (although you're welcome to send more if you really want to). Registration entitles you to: a) Email support in setting up and maintaining the program. b) Free updates via email if I upgrade the program. c) Consideration of your requests for enhancments. (I won't promise to do whatever you ask, but if you don't register, I won't even promise to _read_ your requests. ) To register send $5 and your email address to: Steven Karp 2124 Kittredge St #44 Berkeley, CA 94704 Standard shareware disclaimers apply: a) The program works on my system. I don't guarantee that it'll work for you. b) If it doesn't work -- or even if it does -- and you or your BBS suffer any damage, it's not my problem, nor do I have any obligation to help you fix it (though I'll try). c) I will guarantee that deleting the program from your hard drive will will result in a little more free space.
