NEW USER QUESTIONAIRRE Lord Blix, 1996 What it is ---------- NEWUSER.PPE is a nice looking and easy to use questionairre programme, for PCBOARD 15.2+ sysops to get more information out of their new users than PCB usually asks for! New Users can enter up to 4 lines of 47-character length replies if necessary, that are neatly written to a text file of your choice! This programme is freeware, so you can use it, sell it, decompile it, feed it to your grandmother, I don't care, because I needed it for my own board (Basement BBS (413) 253-5670) {cheap plug} Configuration ------------- NEWUSER.PPE the actual programme. NEWUSER.CFG contains only 2 useful lines: LINE 1: path and filename of the text file to which newuser.ppe will write your users' answers. If left blank, "ANSWERS.TXT" in the newuser.ppe directory is the default. LINE 2: the security that your users will receive after answering your questionairre. If left at 0, then there will be no change in SL. START.TXT contains any text you want new users to read prior to answering your questionairre. END.TXT contains any text you want new users to read after answering your questions. It is a good idea to use @PAUSE@ at the end of these files, to pause the BBS screen after your messages are displayed. QUESTION.TXT the text file containing your questions. There is no limit to the amount of questions you may ask, except that of the user's patience! an asterisk * placed BEFORE a question designates that as one which REQUIRES an answer to continue. an asterisk * placed AFTER a question designates that the answer only requires one line, and will continue to the next question after only one line is entered. an asterisk before and after a question designates that (obviously) it is a required answer that only needs one line! (asterisks before and after questions will not appear during the new user interrogation.) How to install it ----------------- 1. Just put all of the files in a directory of your choice. 2. run PCBSETUP and... 3. select "B) File Location" 4. select "D) New User/Logon/off Questionnaires" 5. change "Name/Loc of New Reg Questionnaire :" to the path and name of NEWUSER.PPE ( example: C:\PCB\PPE\NEWUSER.PPE ) 6. Press ESC 3 times, and select "Q" for Quick Save when prompted. Just want to test it? --------------------- from your PCBOARD main prompt, type PPE {d:}{path}NEWUSER.PPE ( example: if I had it in my c:\temp directory, I would then type: PPE C:\TEMP\NEWUSER.PPE ) -Lord Blix, 1996
