+---------------------------------------+ | JCONF.PPE for PCBoard 15.xx | | Automated Conference Security Menu | | by Stephen Wagner, Jr. | +---------------------------------------+ PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER! * This software contains no hidden features and contains no backdoors. * It is also fully enabled with not so much as a guilt screen. * Registration is optional and entitles you to a lifetime of free upgrades. DISCLAIMER The Author of this PPE claims no responsibility as to the function of this software and offers no warranty express or implied of any kind. Thank you for evaluating JCONF! If you're not sure exactly what JCONF does, it is a user-friendly replacement for your "JOIN" conference command in PCBoard. Installation is simple and can be performed in a few easy steps. To install JCONF.PPE, you need to make two global command additions in your CMD.LST in PCBSETUP.EXE. Make this PPE accessible via two (2) commands: "J" and "JOIN". Note, that this will further render your current Join Conference commands ("J" and "JOIN") useless unless this PPE is un-installed. Now that we have the global command part out of the way, all that's left is the adding of conference names and security levels to your JCONF.CFG. This archive should have come with an example JCONF.CFG, which you may wish to delete and start a new one of after you have read it. There are only a few simple rules in adding conferences to the config file. Rules: (a) You must enter ALL conference(s) in order as they are listed in your conference configuration in PCBSetup. (b) You must leave either a blank line under each conference title OR a password AND/OR a password and security level. (c) You may not enter a security level UNLESS you have entered a password first; password may be "none" for no password. Lets say you have 5 conferences, #5 you wish to place a password -on with a security level of 75, and the rest you want to be -accessible to users with a security level of 30 or higher. (Sample conference names) 1. General Discussion 2. For Sale Advertizements 3. PCBoard Tech. Support 4. ANSI Artwork 5. Private Discussion (This would be entered starting at line 1 of JCONF.CFG) ------------------------------------------------------- General Discussion none;30 For Sale Advertizements none;30 PCBoard Tech. Support none;30 ANSI Artwork none;30 Private Discussion mypassword;75 ------------------------------------------------------- Conference titles may be up-to 60 characters long, and may contain PCB color codes, though I highly recommend you do not use them since it may alter the appearance of the Conference menu. Passwords may be up-to 12 characters long. Security levels may be set to meet the desired needs of the SysOp, and may be set to 256 to keep everyone (Including the SysOp) from accessing them. The purpose for the security level is NOT ONLY to deny access to users who don't have the sufficient SL but to add to security, JCONF will NOT so much as show the user the name of the conference unless their access is high enough. Instead, JCONF will show in place of the actual conference title. When attempting to enter a conference from the menu which is password-protected, a red box will appear in after the conference title which is the space provided for the typing of the password. If an incorrect password is entered, an "Invalid!" message will be printed next to the conference title, and the menu will abort. This is an added security feature to deter hackers and would-be hackers. JCONF will work on the PCBoard command line as well as by manual input, and JCONF will prompt for a password for command line entries as it does for manual ones. As for the rest of JCONF's features, there is a comprehensive, and most self-explanitory list of features at the bottom of the conference display screen. But just to go over a few.... (All of them actually ) U or PageUp - Go BACK a page D or PageDown - Go FORWARD a page B or F - Go to the FIRST page E or L - Go to the LAST page HOME - Go to the TOP line END - Go to the BOTTOM line ESC or Q - Exit the conference menu Up-Arrow - Go UP a line Down-Arrow - Go DOWN a line I won't give you the same line of crap as other shareware authors have: "If you use this software past the 30 day evaluation period....", and I won't try to make you feel guilty, but in the event you feel so inclined to register your copy and obtain a copy of JCONF.PPE with your very own serial # and name encoded into it! (How nice), you may send $10 American dollars in the form of Check or Money Order, made payable to Stephen Wagner, Jr. to this address: Stephen Wagner, Jr. 5342 Oak Bay Drive East Jacksonville, FL. 32277 > And remember to fill out the JCONF.REG first CORRECTLY and > mail that along with your registration. NOTE: Registered copies will not be sent through the mail. They must be downloaded from my BBS. This is the most logical way I thought to do registrations since, if you have a need for this utility in the first place, you obviously have a modem; and secondly, having users obtain their registered copies via my BBS cuts registration costs, since I do not have to charge for shipping. Thus, I save both you and I money. And I think we can all live with that. If there are any questions, inquiries, bug reports, suggestions, or you just want to obtain the latest version of the program, I can be reach via my BBS (The MeltDown BBS) @ 904-745-1507.
