----------------------------------------------------------------------------- CdSelect v5.3 Galaxy BBS Software By Al Massari Nov. 27,1994 Copyright 1994 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: This Program does not write to, or in anyway alter any existing file(s). It has been tested in full and has had no reports on problems of any nature. This software is being offered AS IS and makes no claim that it will work on everyones system... I will not be liable for its use in full or in part. If you run this software you assume all responsiblity for any damages that may arise.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** Indicates New To This Release What is CdSelect? -1. Simple to install PPE that will enable you to access up to 26 Cdroms both On and Off-line.. 2. Searches all Cdroms for a File Name or any Text string. 3. Has built-in help screens for all Cdsel commands most available File Directory Commands..... 4. Added a Download Online/Offline File List Routine.. *** 5. Added security for security specific searches.... Athough this ppe was written for the purpose of accessing CDROMS it will however access and search all conferences specified in the config file.... This PPE is simple to install ,but it could take some time to set-up....This depends on the amount of Cdrom conferences you have configured.....The time that it takes will be well worth the effort...Your users will appreciate every minute you spent seting it up....No longer will they have to search through hundreds of conferences to determin which ones have Cdrom files. NO longer do they have to do a file or text search by joining each conference they THINK it may be in, or search through endless directories for a Cdrom File List. CDSEL does it for them and MORE... Note: The File Cdsearch.cfg is no longer needed... If you are running a previous release, you may delete this file.... The File called Adult.cfg has replaced it and has been renamed... Installation: 1. Unzip CdSel_53.zip in its own directory called Cdsel. *** 2. DO NOT EDIT THE KEY File that comes with the Unregistered copy of Cdsel_53.Zip...The Program will not run if this file is changed.... Upon Registration, this file will be replace with a new key file and include your Name, BBS Name and Serial Number which will Unlock the new Z and L PPE's.... (see registration info in this Doc..) *** 3. Next, create a menu file listing the available cd's on you system or just go ahead and edit the file included called CdSel....THIS FILE MUST BE CALLED CdSel with No Extentions.. *** Note- If you list cd's that are off-line be sure to copy the directory files to the appropriate conference. This will enable the user to view the directories and file descriptions for those cd's that are off-line. 4. Next you must create the CdSel.cfg file. Just enter the number of each conference your cd's are located in (in the order you listed them on the CdSel menu...Again if you wish, just edit the .cfg file in- cluded... *** Note- You MUST list at least 4 conference numbers in this file...If you only have 2 cd's on line just enter the appropriate conference number on the first two lines. On the 3rd and 4th line enter 0...Lines 5-26 may be left blank. *** 5. Next, edit the Security.cfg....enter on the first line the lowest security level needed to access any adult cdroms or other conferences where additional security is required..... Example: enter 60 on the first line.. (60 being the lowest level to access the adult Cd's.... If this feature is not needed, just enter the same security number needed to access this PPE. THIS FILE MUST EXIST AND HAVE A VALID SECURITY NUMBER ON LINE ONE!!!! *** 6. Now edit the Adult.cfg file....LIst in order and by number all the conferences, including any adult cdrom conferences you wish to make available..... If this feature is not needed, just enter the SAME conferences and in the Same Order as listed in the Cdsel.cfg file.... 7. IF you choose to use the option above, then make sure to include these conferences in your Security Specific Cdsel Screens....@ Cdsel60, Cdsel70, Cdsel80, etc..... See the examples included within this release.... 8. Next you must add the command to load the ppe to your default .Cmd lst or Mainboard .Cmd lst... I use the command CD on my main menu so the the line in my cmd.lst looks like this: cd.......20........c:\pcb\ppl\cdsel53.ppe Note:- CdSel is Graphic, security and language specific, so if you have adult cd's you can create security specific menus as well... 9. The Next step is to re-load the ppe if the user wishes to change CD volumes....This is done by adding an additional command in the individual CD conferences Cmd Lst. I use the command CH (Short for (Ch)ange CD Volumes)..So my cmd list in, lets say cd conference #1, would include the command : ch..........20........c:\pcb\ppl\cdsel53.ppe I would then enter that same command in all the conference specific .cmd lst that are listed on the on the CdSel menu If you have not altered your (A)bandon conference command you can still use that command to quit the program....back to the boards Main Menu.. OPTIONAL--- The Next two steps are OPTIONAL and in no way affect the way CDSEL53.PPE performs.... *** 10. In order to maintain all PCboard's File list Commands, I choose to use the prompts in the PCBTEXT file rather than alter them in the PPE....Doing it this way avoids the possibility of having the altered prompts remain in the PCBTEXT file if for some reason the board locks up or the user drops carrier before the PPE changes it back to the original prompts... These changes are strickly cosmetic and only help the user know what they can do next and what conference and directory in being searched.... 1st you must edit line 223 and 585 in your pcbtext file to include the (Enter=Continue) command 2nd you must edit line 283 to include the conference name when scanning the directories.... To do both of the above, follow the following steps 1. Run Mkpcbtxt.exe 2. enter the PCBTEXT file you want to edit 3. hit F3 (jumpt to record #) 4. enter record #223 5. add to the existing line- or (Enter=Continue) 6. Edit record number 585 7. Add to this line- or Enter 8. edit line 283 by adding the @CONFNAME@ macro between the words "Scanning and Directory"... Remember the Macro must be typed with all caps... Note: The line numbers above reflect those used in the Pcbtext files for PCBoard v15.2 (File List Command and Scanning Directory)....For users of PCboard v15.1, I will re-compile the CDsel53.PPE by request only.... 11. To utilize the Download Online/Offline routine, you must edit the file called Dir..... Edit this file to list all the Cdrom File List you have presently available for download.....This list can also be security specific for those having adult listings that should only be viewed bu those users having the required security level.... THIS FILE SHOULD ONLY BE ABOUT 18 LINES... Instructions for its use are hard coded and take up the first 5 lines of the screens....If more than one page is needed to list your File List, be sure to add the @MORE@ macro on or about the 18th line.... not doing so may cause the instructions to be pushed off the top of the screen....You may have to experiment with this.... 12. The Download Online/Offline routine can be access in of the conferences that it may have been loaded from.. There for its IMPORTANT to state that all your File List should be in the conference specific DLPath.... The easiest way to acheive this is to place all of your Cdrom File List in ONE directory in one conference.. Then add that path to all you conference specific DLPath paths.. *** 13. You must to disable the Scan for New Messages Prompt in PcbSetup. Because this prompt only comes up the first time a users enters a conference, It causes a problem with consistancy...The users would still be notified that they have Mail Waiting in the Following Conferences when logging on to the board. I'm working on an alternate ppe that will work around this situation..... Registration: To register this program please send check or money order in the amount of $10.00 to: Al Massari @Galaxy BBS 41 Morningside Dr Pennsville, N.J 08070 Doing so will remove the "Unregistered Copy", "Prompt for Registration" and shorten the delay from the Intro screen....
