ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ º ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ * NOTE: If you are a registered user of ULP and have not already received a key file (e.g. you have the ancient 10-digit registration code), you will need a key file for this version. The preferred method is to call Central Core at 201-575-8991 using your registered name and use the KeyDoor key distribution door to upgrade your key (type KEYDOOR at the main menu). Alternately, send me a request via Internet to stacy.smith@thcave.bbs.no *with your public PGP key*. I will only email keys with PGP encryption!!! To upgrade your ULP system from a previous version, read the following brief instructions, in order, from the version you are running to the current version. If you have skipped a version that requires an UPDATE.EXE conversion utility, they are available on my BBS in the ULP Support conferences (2 and 3), as well as my support sites, listing the SUPPORT.DOC file. I strongly suggest you read through the HISTORY.DOC as well, which provides detailed information on the changes and bugs fixed over the course of ULP's development. In general, to install new versions, start by copying the new executables and documentation over your old files. For 1.x versions, take care to not overwrite your ULP configuration files with the samples! Version 2.04: No configuration file adjustments are required. Version 2.03: If you are using the FOSSIL interface of ULP for online testing, you must alter your PCBTEST.BAT command line, as the functionality of the -X command line switch has changed. It now does not require a port number, as ULP will decipher the port number from the door drop file. For most sysops using the FOSSIL interface, simply using -X is sufficient. Refer to the documentation for more information. The new "process nested archives" and "process nested GIF/JPEG files" flags must be set. If you installed prior to 2.03, these will be defaulted off ('N'). I strongly recommend turning them both on ('Y'). If JPEG file checking is desired and you installed prior to this release, you should reset the desired limits for JPEG via ULPSM. Version 2.02: No configuration file adjustments are required. Version 2.01: Use ULPSM and either set up all of your upload directory sets to the proper conference assignments or disable the conference assignment. Currently, without making this adjustment, all upload directory sets are now defined as the main board conference (conference 0). Version 2.00: Re-installation from scratch is required; there is no update utility included in the distribution archie. You must install ULP 2.00 into a new subdirectory; do not copy over your 1.x files. If you are a registered user of ULP, copy your existing ULP.KEY file into the new ULP 2.00 subdirectory. Follow the installation instructions in the ULP.DOC file to use the new automatic installation system that is built into ULPSM. This system generates a working configuration file and all required external configuration files, leaving only the documented adjustments to complete your setup. Once you have fully configured ULP 2.00, copy your existing ULP duplication database files to your 2.00 subdirectory. Do not copy your old BBS ads database or process data file to your ULP 2.00 subdirectory, as they are not compatible. * NOTE: If you have a lot of work invested in your ULP configuration (e.g. a large number of upload directories), download the file ULP_1TO2.ZIP, which contains the necessary update files for updating from 1.1x to 2.00. However, for most sysops, updating in this fashion will be much more effort and error-prone than using ULPSM's automatic installation! Versions 1.11 and 1.12: No configuration file adjustments are required. Version 1.10: UPDATE.EXE version 1.10 is required to update your configuration file from the version 1.06 format to the 1.10 format. This file is available separately as UPDT110.ZIP from the support systems. No configuration file adjustments are necessary, however ULP now recognizes only the registeration keys introduced in version 1.07 almost one year ago; the 10-digit registration codes are now obsolete. Refer to the HISTORY.DOC for more information. Versions 1.07a through 1.09: No configuration file adjustments are required. Version 1.07: No UPDATE.EXE is included in this archive, since there were no change in the configuration file formats. In ULPSM, the database buffer size parameter has been removed, as the buffer handling within ULP has been improved. Due to the change, you must set your disk buffer size in menu B between 4K and 16K, and re-save your configuration file to disk. I would suggest setting it to 8K, or if you have the memory, try 16K. Version 1.06: UPDATE.EXE version 1.06 (available separately as UPDT106.ZIP on my BBS) is required to update your configuration file from the version 1.02 format. No configuration file adjustments are necessary. Version 1.05: No configuration file adjustments are required. Version 1.04: No UPDATE.EXE is included in this archive, since there were no changes to the configuration file formats. If your default archiving format was the first archiver in page 1 of the "archivers" menu in ULPSM.EXE, ULP.EXE could insert the wrong new file size in the description. You can correct your directory listing file sizes using the following PCBFILER command: PCBFILER /PROCESS:xx:nn Where 'xx' is the conference number and 'nn' is the directory number. Version 1.03: No UPDATE.EXE is included in this archive, since there were no changes to the configuration file formats. The swap device for swapping is now configurable in the "general options" menu). Options for swapping are now: (N)one, (E)MS, (X)MS, (D)isk and (A)uto. (A)uto is equivalent to the old (Y)es selection and probably the best choice. The length of the @-variable names that ULP utilizes were shortened. You must go through your configuration file and update all @-variables (in the archivers, file checkers, GIF file checkers and description processing menus) according to the following translation: @ARCHIVE@ ---> @ARC@ @WIDTH@ ---> @WID@ @FILES@ ---> @FILE@ @HEIGHT@ ---> @HGT@ @NEWEST@ ---> @NEW@ @COLORS@ ---> @COLOR@ @OLDEST@ ---> @OLD@ @COMPRESS@ ---> @COMP@ @BYTES@ ---> @BYTE@ In order to change some hidden @FILE@ variables, ZDCS users must enter the "duplication checking" menu in ULPSM, press 'F10' to save the corrected data to memory and exit ULPSM, saving the configuration file to disk. If you wish to use newest age checking instead of average age checking, it is now configurable within the "age checking" menu in ULPSM. Due to a bug in ULPADS, it would be a good idea to use the distribution database included in the ULP archive and add your own unique BBS ad files back in.
