Preliminary Beta Instructions For RIME XFER STATION. Will require clicking on the FTP Control nag screen occasionally until the control is registered. Please email rimegate@relaynet.org for help or with suggestions, bug reports.Unzip RIMEXFER.ZIP in your TEMP directory and: 1. Run SETUP.EXE 2. After install, run RIMEXFER.EXE. A. Click on CONFIG B. Enter your logon information. Directories must be made under the install directory. IE, if you installed in the C:\RIMEXFER directory, the working directories would be configured as c:\rimexfer\up, c:\rimexfer\down, etc. C. Click on [SAVE AND EXIT], then click on [EXIT] on the main screen. 3. Run RIMEXFER.EXE again and answer OK to create the directories configured in the previous step. MANUAL OPERATION Transfer Mail Files --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Place your MOONDOG.REP file in the /REP directory. 2. Click on the[RIME] Action Button. A. RIMEXFER will logon to an available RIME FTP hub. B. RIMEXFER will look for and download any waiting mail packets and place them in the /DOWN directory. You must then unzip them and place them where your tosser expects them. If the RENAME switch is checked, then RIMEXFER will unzip and properly rename the downloaded mail packets to the proper standard, (QWK or FTSC). C. RIMEXFER will automatically ZIP up the REP files. and rename them to the proper format for the RIME Hub. The packet will be moved to the /UP directory and sent to the RIME FTP Hub. After the upload attempt, the packet will be moved to the ARCHIVE directory. If the upload was successful, the packet will be deleted from the UPLOAD directory. D. Click the green [EXIT] button. AUTO OPERATION Transfer Mail Files --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Place your MOONDOG.REP file in the /REP directory. 2. RUN' RIMEXFER.EXE /auto /quiet' SAFE DEPOSIT BOX -------------------------------- 1. Run 'RIMEXFER.EXE'. 2. Click on the [SD BOX] button. 3. Select any of the previous files uploaded/downloaded that you need. 4. RIMEXFER will download them and place them in your /DOWN directory. INFOMART OPERATION -------------------------------------- 1. Run 'RIMEXFER.EXE'. 2. Click on the [INFOMART] button. 3. Select any of the RIME informational files you want. 4. RIMEXFER will download them and place them in your /DOWN directory. In actual use, you would use a batch file to move the MOONDOG.REP files that your tosser creates to the \REP directory of RIMEXFER. RIMEXFER will then zip up the MOONDOG.REP file, and rename/renumber it to QU/FUssss.NNN, where NNN is an incrementing number between '001' and '999'. RIMEXFER then moves this file to the RIMEXFER\UP directory and then FTP uploads it to the RIME site. RIMEXFER will download any waiting mail packets, (QD/FDssss.NNN), to the RIMEXFER\DOWN directory. Your batch file is then expected to unzip the downloaded QDssss.NNN file, (which will unzip to a MOONDOG.QWK file), and move it to the directory your tosser expects to find the QWK packet, or you may check the QUICK or FTS RENAME SWITCH on the CONFIGURATION panel. Checking the QWK RENAME will allow RIMEXFER to rename the incoming packets to the QWK standard, MOONDOG.QWK, MOONDOG.QW0, MOONDOG.QW1. etc. Checking the FTSC RENAME SWITCH on the CONFIGURATION panel will allow RIMEXFER to unarchive the incoming packets, extracting the FTSC standard named echomail packets. RIMEXFER will also save all downloaded mail files in the ARCHIVE directiry if the ARCHIVE SWITCH on the CONFIGURATION panel is checked. RIMEXFER is just a vehicle for automatically zipping/renumbering your REP packets and uploading them to the RIME site, and downloading any waiting mail packets. It is also used to manually retreive any archived files located in the 'SAFE DEPOSIT BOX', and any RelayNet(tm) Informational files. Here is some info on how the RIME FTP hub operates: RIME FTP PROCEDURES ------------------- FTP service is available to every RIME sysop in good standing. The following procedures must be followed exactly: All Formats: 1) ssss - is your RIME site number. NNNN - is a number, starting at 000, and incrementing by 1 for each packet, resetting to 000 when 999 is reached. 2) The RIME FTP client, RIMEXFER may be used by systems running under WINDOWS/95/98/NT to handle all the renumbering, uploading and downloading of packets automatically. 3) FTP login passwords may change during the year. Current ftp sysops in good standing will receive the new passwords via Internet email starting on the 25th day of the previous month, and for the following 5 days. 4) The RIME utility, FTP-RPC.ZIP may be used to automatically renumber your packets. It is available on the Nethub, and the FTP sites. This utility is used for DOS based systems. QWK: Packets are named in the following manner: QUssss.NNN - Packet going *to* the Nethub placed in /ssssOUT by you. QDssss.NNN - Packet from the Nethub found in /ssssIN by me. Packets are compressed with PKZIP, and renamed from MOONDOG.REP for the site, or MOONDOG.QWK from the NetHub. FTSC: Packets will arrive FROM 900:100/1 Packets are named in the following manner: FUssss.NNN - Packet going *to* the Nethub placed in /ssssOUT by you. FDssss.NNN - Packet from the Nethub found in /ssssIN by me. Packets are compressed with PKZIP only. Do not use the FTSC PACKET PASSWORD function. FDssss.NNN packets will contain any personal NETMAIL, or files sent to your node. RIME FTP Directory Structure ---------------------------- *PRIMARY* FTP Site : ftp.relaynet.org /publ -- The only anonymous directory (Rime misc files) /rime -- After 2:00 AM and after 3:15 PM all current mail. This is where the daily RIME GENERIC packets reside: 10******.ZIP (PostLink packet). RIMEQWK.NNN (QWK packet). RIMEFTSC.NNN (FTSC packets). /ssssIN -- Private Directories for each RIME sysop. /ssssOUT -- "" /ssssPRV -- "" The nethub can toss your packet as soon as you upload it, if you send a 'junk' file named 'import.now' as the last file you upload. The nethub does house cleaning around midnight, and any of your packets left in your /ssssIN and /ssssOUT are *moved* into /ssssPRV. This 'house cleaning' is an option for sysops, as some of them prefer to do this themselves. If you allow the Nethub to house clean, then you must be sure to check the /ssssPRV directory for any QDssss.NNN packets you may have missed. I can turn this off if you prefer, but then you must remember to delete your packets after you download them, or move them to /ssssPRV for storage. Also, there is two options for scanning your packets. 1. A new packet is tossed every 60 min, and the Nethub will make a QDssss.NNN packet for QWK systems or FDssss.NNN for FTSC systems, if you have any new mail. This creates multiple packets a day, but is the preferred method for sysops who automate their ftp mail-runs as it allows the fastest turn-around of mail and smaller packets to download each time. 2. The Nethub can create ONE packet a day, at approx 3am EST. This is an easier system but slows down the mail turnaround and usually will create a large packet over 1 megabyte zipped in size. The default process for all accounts is Option 1. If you wish 1 packet a day, let me know and I will change the tossing options for you.
