SFFCONV Version 1.0 Copyright 1997 Don Devlin Simple Simon Ware, Ltd. Introduction: -=-=-=-=-=-=- I made the decision to switch from Spitfire to PCBoard and started to configure the new BBS software to suit my needs. I assumed that there would be a relatively easy way to convert my 620 file areas (which contain more than 54,000 files), to PCBoard's DIR's. I couldn't have been more incorrect! After seeing how labor intensive the manual option was, I decided to write a program that would complete the task for me. SFFCONV is the result. It will create DIR files from your existing SFFILES.BBS files. Since the one program I had envisioned became six programs that took me approximately 80 hours to write, I thought of releasing it as shareware but changed my mind. I know from experience that most Spitfire sysops are very scrupulous about registering the software they use, and I decided to ask anyone who used it to set up their new board for a simple donation of $1.00 for its use. I know that's not much, but if you feel that it's worth more, please send what you think it's worth. If you feel that it doesn't do exactly what I claim it will, or if you have any suggestions as to improvements, send me the information at one of the locations noted below and I'll fix. I DO know that it worked for me! By the way, SFFCONV runs fairly fast. It took 6 minutes to do all of my file areas. Legal Stuff: -=-=-=-=-=-=- SFFCONV promises to do nothing but take up hard drive space. Don Devlin and Simple Simon Ware are in no way responsible for any damage or loss resulting from the use (or misuse), of SFFCONV. Responsibility lies strictly with the user of SFFCONV. SFFCONV is copyrighted and Simple Simon Ware retains all rights thereof. Using SFFCONV -=-=-=-=-=-=- Prior to running SFFCONV, use PCBSETUP to configure your file areas under PCB. Re-use your Spitfire file areas!!!! SFFCONV will read the locations of the DIR files as well as look for SFFILES.BBS files in the directories you have entered. When you are entering the download directories and DIR locations with PCBSETUP, be sure to enter fully qualified names (with drive and directory). SFFCONV can be run from anywhere on your system, even from a device that is non-writeable (such as a CD-ROM), if you can get the unzipped file there! It requires no command line parameters; however, you must modify the contents of SFFCONV.CNF to indicate the full drive, path and name of the PCBOARD.DAT file that you are using prior to running it. To generate new DIR files, just go to the directory containing SFFCONV and enter its name! NOTE: If you already have DIR files, they will be overwritten, so if you want to save them, you'd better back them up somewhere before you run this program. Registration: -=-=-=-=-=-=- SFFCONV is DonationWare. If you use it and it does what I claim it to do, please remit a donation of $1.00 to the address below. If you feel so inclined, you can send more and receive my eternal gratitude.
