PCB_WARP.TXT Charles Shapiro ABSOLUT(e)LY TEMPORARY BBS (702) 254-8601 INTERNET: sysop@at.com Alot of the information may look familair. I just edited the PCB_OS2.TXT file for WARP! .... I am writting this to try and help other PCBoard sysops that might be attemtping to run a multi-node PCBoard under WARP. It is ASSummed that the reader of this .txt file has working knowledge of OS/2 or OS/2 WARP V.3.0 I currently run my BBS, ABSOLUT(e)LY TEMPORARY on a 486DX-50 with 16MB of Ram memory. 3 Drives, 1 Maxtor IDE drive, a 345MB (7345A) and TWO Western Digital IDE drives, 1 540MB & 1 730MB. All Drives are formatted using the High Performance File System (HPFS). My boot drive is 128MB HPFS partition. There is NO DOS on the system. There has been alot of discussion on what size a HPFS partition needs to be to take FULL ADVANTAGE of the HP File System. I was told 128MB to take FULL ADVANTAGE so I decided to give it a try as I was not happy with the performance on the 50MB partition that had OS/2 2.1 on it... ABSOLUT(e)LY TEMPORARY has 3 nodes. 2 live nodes, and 1 local for the sysop, with U.S.Robotics Dual Standard modems on each live node. This .txt file plus a few files you'll find included will show what I have found to work for me. For example, changes made to the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file. I have found that FEW CHANGES are necessary to the DOS SESSION SETTINGS for PCBoard and WARP other than those PCBoard recommended for OS/2 2.1. Also remember it is important that the BBS sessions are FULL SCREEN (and NOT WINDOWS), SESSIONS. I would also recommend the following book: OS/2 2.1 UNLEASED (version 1) or Version 2 (called UNLEASHED OS2 2.11) (both of these were written for OS/2 2.x, UNLEASHED for WARP is due out right after the 1st of the year. I have made all the changes described in the OS2.BLT included in this .ZIP file.. One thing you might need to do depending on your video card is to set ALL VIDEO settings to their DEFAULT SETTINGS. The only EXCEPTION is the VIDEO_8514A_XGA_IOTRAP to OFF.. Rather than explain what was changed in my OS/2 config.sys, I will just include mine in this .ZIP file. (with comments). ____________________________________________________________________ I do want to put one line of my config.sys file here so that it's in more than one place as I feel it very important to the speed on a HPFS partition: My system was running pretty slow, especially when a 2400 BPS caller was on one node. The below CACHE line seems to have fix that problem... RUN=C:\OS2\CACHE.EXE /MAXAGE:7500 /DISKIDLE:60000 /BUFFERIDLE:60000 This is a HPFS ONLY Cache. See OS2CFG9.DAT for details or The Master Help file in OS/2 WARP. (Type HELP CACHE from a OS/2 Command Line. The above figures have not been fine tuned yet. If you find some numbers that work better PLEASE let me know! ____________________________________________________________________ Files included in this PCB_WARP.ZIP PCB_WARP.TXT - This file CONFIG.SYS - My CONFIG.SYS with only lines that were changed from the defualt OS2CFG9.DAT - A file that explains EVERY line in the CONFIG.SYS file.
