Return with us now to those thrilling days of Yesteryear 1. System Data | Global options deals with how Allfix accomplishes several different things, file descriptions, The filefind echo and the replies that Allfix writes to it, etc --------------------------------------------------------Global Options- Keep original file date Yes Replace extension Yes Mailer Rescan FrontDoor Max age of Requests 5 Log Style FrontDoor Keep exported Messages No Mailer Mode Frontdoor Days to keep on hold 0 Download Counters Size of Stat file 0 Update DESCRIPT.ION No Max Tic Archive size 0 Date Format mm-dd-yy Max size to pack 0 Min HD space to import 100 UTC offset -6 Process local requests No Max message size 0 MSG compatability Fido Dupe checking Filecrc + fileecho + filename ==================================================================== LongDesc character | One line LogngDesc No Filter LongDesc Yes Max len of LongDesc 10 Spaces to indent 31 Add tag to desc No ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A 0 (zero) in any field disables that field I keep the original file date because PCB doesn't need it reset to determine if it is a new file. Mailer Rescan is set to Frontdoor but it could be set to any one of the others. It just doesn't matter. You have to tell PCB which one to look for anyway. Ditto with the log style and the Mailer Mode. Set the update Descript.ion to yes if you use 4DOS Min HD space to import just tells ALLFIX how much HD space you want to free. If importing the new files will mean that you have less than the amount you specify here then it won't import it. This figure is in KBytes Process local requests If a local user uses filefind to locate a file do you want your allfix to send him a message telling him it's available locally. Dupe checking How much trouble do you want Allfix to go to to check for duplicate files when it imports a new batch from one of the FDNs Replace extension This deals with the filefind feature of Allfix. If someone enters a filefind request for a file sith a specific extension (PCBNet.zip) do you want Allfix to replace that extension with a * wildcard? Max age of requests How old a filefind request do you want Allfix to respond to? Keep exported messages If you've set Allfix to respond to a filefind request or to make an announcement in Netmail should it keep the message after it is sent? UTC offset This tells allfix what time zone you are in. I keep my computer on Central Standard Time all year round. No Daylight Savings time at all. This number here indicates how many time zones you are east or west of Greenwich Mean Time. -6 means that I'm 6 time zones west of GMT. Eastern Standard Time is -5, Mountain Standard time is -7, Pacific Standard Time is -8. If you have your computer set to Daylight savings time add -1 to your number and get ready to reset all your events in another month. This is used to calculate the time stamp in the TIC files, among other things. LongDesc character is the character that your BBS software uses in it's file description data base (PCB DIR files)to designate a line as being part of a description instead of a file name. PCB uses | Filter LongDesc A lot of Authors like to put funky drawings and logos in their FILE_ID.DIZ files. Sometimes they are unreadable, other times they are so long that there is no room for the file description in the 10 lines that PCB allows for file descriptions. Set this to yes to filter out all the High ASCII crap. Spaces to indent How many spaces to indent the 2nd-10th lines of a file description when it is imported into your DIR file. PCB uses 31 spaces. Some BBS software uses a single line to store the File_id.Diz file in its Database. PCB doesn't Max length of LongDesc I believe that PCB set a max of 10 lines in it's file descriptions. Add Tagname to desc Do you want the AREATAG to be put in the file description and if so where? 2. In System Data | Miscellaneous | Log options select the type of information you want written to th Log 3. PAUSE Can the Downlink temporarily stop recieving the files and tic he is connected to Keep reciepts Do you want your system to keep any netmail or echomail reciepts that might be generated as a result of recieving AREAMgr requests or filefind requests? Auto Add Nodes If a downlink that is not set up with an allfix account sends an AREAMgr request do you want ALLFIX to automaticall set him up? Public groups And if you do allow the auto add node feature, which group should he be automatically assigned to? AREAMgr Recognition strings If a downlink sends a request to your AREAMgr but instead of addressing it to ALLFIX he slips a cog and address it to one of these programs, ALLFIX will recognize that it's dealing with a half wit and process the request anyway. That pretty much takes care of the System Data Setup. Next time we'll look at the File area manager and set up some File areas. Later, Mark Who was that Masked Man
