It has currently only been tested on Windows 95. For those of you that are unfamiliar with virtual window managers, just run the program and play with it. You'll soon figure out what they do, and why you shouldn't be without one. One hint to get you started... the little boxes in the VWM (virtual window manager) window represent the "real" windows you currently have open. Help instructions are available by right clicking on the impVWM icon in the System Tray area, then selecting the Help option. The button functions for the system tray icon are now reversed from version 1.5x and before. You left click on the tray icon to hide/restore the VWM window and you right click to get the menu. Configuration information stored in the registry, therefore, if you want to remove all traces of impVWM from your system you must also delete the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Imp Inc.\Imp Virtual Window Manager" key. Now that you know where the configuration information is, you might be thinking of playing with the data. Don't! Unless you know exactly what the impVWM expects to find. I didn't add much error checking (yet) to the Registry functions. Though if you do mess things up, just delete the key, and let the program recreate it again. I am planning at least on more update to this program when I have some free time. Till then, if you have any questions, comments, or reports of bugs (which couldn't be from my wonderful programming skills), please send them to: gharth@mcs.kent.edu You should be able to find the latest version of impVWM at: http://www.kent.edu/~gharth The Imp Virt ual Window Manager is a shareware program. That is, I have intended for it to be free, just cheap. If you would like to register and make me happy, then please send $15.00 to the address below. If you have already registered a previous version, ignore that last sentence. Since this is a straight forward program, there really is no need for me to send out manuals and I did not put any annoying splash screens or date checkers in this program. The only thing I can promise registered users is notificationDocumentSummaryInformation8 of updates and other programs from yours truly. Known problems with the Imp Virtual Window Manager... There is one thing that impVWM currently does not handle with grace. And that one thing is the autohide feature of the Windows95 taskbar (and the MS Office Shortcut Bar) when they are attached to the top screen and left screen positions. What happens is that your windows will start to move every time you switch screens. The cure? Don't use taskbars attached to the top or left side of the screen when in autohide. I apologize for this temporary inconvenience. You should also realize that the motion switching feature in impVWM competes with the autohide feature of taskbars. You can use them together, but be prepared for the touchy activation of the taskbar. You might try turning down the sensitivity of the motion switching or turning of the autohide. 4ans SerifA z $&George H Harth, IVࡱ> ܥhW 4e jjbhbbbb l bEvzzzzzzz)+++?j> Xb&0zzzzz0zvzzz) &z)!impVWM - The Imp Virtual Window Manager v2.00 Copyright 1995 by George H Harth, IV This program is a 32-bit virtual window manager for Windows 95 and Windows NT (with the New Shell).
