Since this is a straight forward program, there really is no need for me to send out manuals and I did not put any splash screens or date checkers in this program. The only thing I can promise registered users is notification of updates and other programs from yours truly. Not to mention the joy of knowing that you have given me a means to avoid starvation for another day. This address is good till 7/15/96..... The NT versions require the New Shell. Thanks to Don Carignan of DEC for compiling the Alpha version. I have personally only tested it under Windows 95. For those of you that are unfamiliar with virtual window managers, just run the program and play with it. You'll soon figure out what they do, and why you shouldn't be without one. One hint to get you started... the little boxes in the VWM (virtual window manager) window represent the "real" windows you currently have open. Help instructions are available by right clicking on the impVWM icon in the System Tray area, then selecting the Help option. The button functions for the system tray icon are now reversed from version 1.5x and before. You left click on the tray icon to hide/restore the VWM window and you right click to get the menu. If you are using the password option on the windows screen savers, please test the system before assuming it works! What I mean is this, make sure you can't use motion switching to flip to another screen while the screen saver is running. This was possible in versions 2.12 and earlier. Hopefully it is now fixed for good, but no guarantees . I have tested it with the screen savers I have, test it on yours. If you should happen to find one that can be bypassed, please let me know about it. Known problems with the Imp Virtual Window Manager... You should realize that the motion switching feature in impVWM competes with the autohide feature of taskbars. You can use them together, but be prepared for the touchy activation of the taskbar. You might try turning down the sensitivity of the motion switching or turning of the autohide. There may be problems with Eudora Pro, still checking on this. Eudora Light (the shareware version) works fine. It has been reported that games using the Direct APIs may clash with impVWM while it is running. If you notice these problems, go into the impvwm menu and select the "Turn Off impVWM" option. Once you have finished the game, simply select "Turn On impVWM" from the same menu. This new option disables all functionality of impvwm (including motion switching), while leaving the program in memory (and on the task bar). Please note that when you turn off (or quit) impvwm all windows are moved to the top-left screen. Configuration information stored in the registry, therefore, if you want to remove all traces of impVWM from your system you must also delete the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Imp Inc.\Imp Virtual Window Manager" key. Note that you do not need to remove or modify this registry information if you move impvwm.exe to a different location. That is part of the beauty of the Registry. Now that you know where the configuration information is, you might be thinking of playing with the data. Don't! Unless you know exactly what the impVWM expects to find. I didn't add much error checking (yet) to the Registry functions. If you do mess things up, just delete the key, and let the program recreate it. I am planning at least one more update to this program when I have some free time. Till then, if you have any questions, comments, or reports of bugs (which couldn't be from my wonderful programming skills), please send them to: gharth@mcs.kent.edu You should be able to find the latest version of impVWM at: http://www.kent.edu/~gharth The Imp Virtual Window Manager is a shareware program. I have not intended for it to be free, just cheap. If you would like to register and make me happy, then please send US$15.00 to the address below. If you have already registered a previous version, ignore that last sentence. When re
