Last Updated: Wednesday, April 24, 1996 HOW TO INSTALL PERSONAL PAGER ONTO YOUR HARD DRIVE -------------------------------------------------- To install Pager onto your hard drive, run Microsoft Windows, and select "File" then "Run..." from the main menu in the Program Manager. If you are running Windows 95, select the "Run..." command from the Start menu instead. Enter the full path, and run the program SETUP.EXE. For example, if you are installing from a disk in drive A:, type A:SETUP and then click the mouse on the OK button or press RETURN. Follow the on-screen installation instructions to proceed. You will be asked to enter the path to the directory on your hard drive where you wish to install the program files, or to accept the default choice. The installation program will copy the files to your hard drive and create a Program Manager group which will contain the game. To run Pager, simply open the group, and double click the mouse on the icon of the game. Notes on Personal Pager operation. * This product has been designed to operate under Windows 95 although it will also run under Windows 3.1 or higher * Use the drag and drop QuickHelp for information on all buttons and lists on any screen. QuickHelp is invoked by left-clicking the HELP icon on the top right of any screen and dragging the icon onto a control or anywhere else on the screen where the pointer turns to an arrow. * Install problems under Win 3.x - If you have any problems installing Pafer you can try this : * Create a new directory on your hard drive ie: temp1 * Copy all files on both install diskettes to this directory. * Run Setup.exe from this new directory (temp1) specifying the new directory name as the 'Install From' directory. * When installation is complete you can delete the directory you just created (temp1) and all of the files in it. * Display Problems - problems have been reported where the display resolution of the monitor is ultra high ( 1600 x 1200 ). Sometimes some the windows appear in awkward positions. In this release this problem still remains so you may want to set the screen resolution down a bit. * Voice Recording Problems - Three hardware items are essential for successful voice recording and transmission as follows: Voice Modem ( Equipped with the Rockwell chipset ) 16550 UART serial port Soundblaster or compatible sound card Without these 3 items voice recording and transmission will not be possible. Note that with a normal modem ( as opposed to voice modem ) it is still possible to have Pager attach a call to a memo and it WILL dial the call but no voice transmission will occur. It is essential that the correct port is assigned when you first set up your modem in the Setup screen in the VRouter.exe utility. Check you modem settings in the Windows 'Control Panel' to make sure you are using the right port and that there are no IRQ conflicts. If you receive the message : "An unknown error has occurred whilst recording this voice file - check the modem connected is Voice Capable and a microphone is connected. Also ensure the comm port being used is 16550 UART compatible." the chances are that: *) the modem is not a voice modem or *) the serial card being used is not of type: 16550 UART or *) the sound card is not Soundblaster compatible In any case you must have the correct hardware before recording and transmitting. If you still have problems under Win 3.x upgrade to Windows 95 and all should be OK. * If the PAGER.INI file in your windows directory becomes corrupted or deleted you can either: * reinstall the product ( SAVING THE PAGER.MDB and PAGER.LDB ) files first these are your current database files so you probably don't want to have them overwritten with an empty database - after reinstall copy these two files back to your re-install directory. * unpack the pager.in_ file from the distribution diskettes or CD or download it from your original source. Use the Windows 'expand.exe' utility to decompress it. After that place the file in your current Windows directory. Failing any of these methods you can eMail me at smayn@ozemail.com.au and I'll send you a brand new pager.ini file. nb : - The pager.ini file holds a Shareware license number - if this file gets deleted you will have to re-enter this code number when the file is re-constructed or reinstalled- look at the 'Version' entry in the pager.ini file. If this ID number is blank or incorrect it means the product is not registered yet!! * If the date does not appear correctly on the main screen, it may be because the date has been set in an incompatible format from the Windows date settings. Check the Regional Settings under Windows 95 or Control Panel under Win 3.x and select a date format that is valid and displays correctly in Personal Pager. * Any comments ( especially if you like this product!! ) problems, or technical questions may be directed to : smayn@ozemail.com.au * INFORMATION ON REGISTERING THIS PRODUCT MAY BE FOUND IN THE ONLINE HELP FILE - PAGER.HLP. REGISTERING IS EASY, BY PLASTIC ,MAIL OR COMPUSERVE, NO WORRIES !!
