********************** ERS : Emergency Recovery System. Windows 95 only. June 1996. Updated Jan/97. You are allowed to put this in your Homepage for downloads, in condition any part of this , not be modified or changed, use the address and E-mail below for any permissions. ================ This program was made originally by Uncle Gus but I modified, enlarged it, and made it more advanced with more features , it was made when it was found out and reported officially that CFGBCK, ERU and when Win95 says will replace registry with the backup is not 100% dependable, read this Readme.txt first. =========================== This is a fully working shareware with no time limit or any nagging reminder, if you like it and I am very sure it would bail you out of trouble and will save you lots time from trying to restore sytem files manually. Send $6 to Theodore Fattaleh 1834 S Bentley Av #202 W. Los Angeles, CA 90025 Half of the money will go to Uncle GUS(Gus Hallgren) who initially made the root batch file. 2000@msn.com unclegus@msn.com http://www.frontpagenow.com/2000 ================================================= ***** BE very careful, don't be double clicking those batch files until you read this, print this right away and don't loose the print out, keep it in a safe place. ***The zip file has three zip files, ERS, ERSA and ERSB. If you want to use the three programs which I suggest you do, just double click the Instdirs.bat, that will create five folders in C drive. ERS, ERSA, ERSB, ERSB1 and ERSB2. If you don't want all three, do this, Make a new folder in C and call it ERS to use the ERS program only, and ERSA to use the ERSA program only, ERSB needs three folders, ERSB ERSB1 and ERSB2. All above folders has to be made in C, will not work if you put it in a temporary folder or all togeteher in one folder. Extract ERS.zip and copy contents to the ERS folder. Extract ERSA.zip and copy contents to the ERSA folder. Extract ERSB.zip , copy backupb.bat and Restoreb.bat to the ERSB folder. then copy restore1.bat to ERSB1 folder and at last copy Restore2 to the ERSB2 folder. ================================== The five folders are three backup and restore program, ERS, ERSA and ERSB All three programs backup and restore the following files: System.dat, System.da0, User.dat, User.da0, System.ini, Win.ini, Command.com, MSDOS.sys, IO.sys, Protocol.ini each backup could take 1 to 2 mb of hard disk space, so if you use all three programs then 5 to 10mb could be used for backup. It is worth it and it is the best system backup/restore for Win95 , don't go without it. ---- ***ERS and ERSA are identical except the names, giving you the option of having two backups. Open ERS and double click backup.bat, all the above files would copy to c:\ERS. ***To restore from backup, start computer click F8 when says Starting Windows 95 and select the Command Prompt Only. At the Command Prompt type CD ERS , once in ERS just type RESTORE , restart computer. *** ERSA is the same except you double click backupa.bat to backup and type RESTOREA to restore from ERSA. Believe me you need more than one backup done at different days and times. Make shortcuts to Backup.bat and Backupa.bat to your Desktop or the Start menu. ------------------------------------- The ERSB is more advanced than the above, it is best run if you have System Agent from Microsoft Plus found at all software shops. Setup System Agent to run backupb.bat daily. Or you can make a shortcut to backupb.bat to your Desktop and run it manually every day. This what it does: Once you double click backupb.bat every day, on the third day, you will have three backups, in ERSB will have the latest, ERSB1 will have yesterdays and ERSB2 will have the day before yesterday. To restore as in ERS above, start computer, click F8 when says Starting Windows 95, select the Command Prompt Only, it depends from what day you want to do the restore, From current date, type CD ERSB and then type RESTOREB . From yesterday, type CD ERSB1 and type RESTORE1 . From day before yesterday, type CD ERSB2 and type RESTORE2 . ___________________________________________ You can safely practice with this program, BUT DON't Double CLICK the RESTORE.BAT in Windows. Don't forget to type this readme.txt and save it for a rainy day. Always do backups before you install any program. This program will for sure get you out of trouble. -------------------------- That's how I use mine. I have System Agent and I have scheduled to backup daily using the ERSB program and to backup once a week using the ERSA program, I use the ERS just before I install any program or before editing the registry or system files.
