README.TXT October 16, 1996 Diskeeper[R] Lite for Windows NT[TM] V1.1.124 This text file provides information you should know about this release version of Diskeeper Lite. IMPORTANT NOTE ============== Service Pack 1 for Windows NT, which contains fixes for potential data corruption, is now available at the following location: ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/fixes/usa/NT40/sp1 While we have not received any reports of file corruption in field test, we have found that applying this Service Pack has resolved some intermittent problems running Diskeeper. Therefore, we strongly recommend applying this Service Pack to your Windows NT systems. NOTE TO LAPTOP AND NOTEBOOK USERS ================================= As a result of a hardware/software incompatibility with some notebook and laptop computers and Windows NT, there have been reports of some blue screens while running Diskeeper analysis on NTFS volumes only. There is no danger of data loss or corruption. We are currently investigating the problem and will post any information, fixes or workarounds to our web site at www.execsoft.com. KNOWN INCOMPATIBILITIES IN THIS RELEASE ======================================= 1. This release only supports the DPT Smartcache III controller if Service Pack 1 is installed. PLATFORMS AND OPERATING SYSTEM VERSIONS SUPPORTED ================================================= This version of Diskeeper Lite is supported on Intel x86 platforms running Windows NT 4.0 builds 1381 and higher. REQUIRED PRIVILEGES =================== You must have Administrator privileges to install and operate Diskeeper Lite. INSTALLING DISKEEPER LITE ========================= Follow these steps to install Diskeeper Lite: 1. From Windows NT Explorer or File Manager, double click on SETUP.EXE in the directory where this README.TXT file resides. 2. Read the information displayed in the Setup Installation Wizard boxes and click the "Next" button as appropriate. 3. In the "Choose Destination Location" dialog box, either accept the default installation location, or click the "Browse" button to specify a different disk and/or directory. If you specify a directory that does not exist, the setup program will create it for you. Click the "Next" button after specifying a disk and directory, or to accept the default installation location. 4. After a short period of copying files, the installation is complete. UNINSTALLING DISKEEPER LITE =========================== Follow these steps to remove Diskeeper from your computer: 1. From Control Panel, double click "Add/Remove Programs". 2. Click the "Install/Uninstall" tab. 3. Highlight "Diskeeper Lite". 4. Click the "Add/Remove" button. This removes the Diskeeper program files from your computer.
