Chat Service provides several tools to help you configure, operate, and maintain your chat server.
- Chat Service Manager
A utility that uses Microsoft Management Console (MMC) to manage Chat Service.
MMC is an administrative utility that you can use to manage any application that provides
a custom administrative component called a snap-in. Each snap-in allows you to configure
and manage a specific service on a Windows NT server, such as Chat Service or
Microsoft NNTP Service. Administrators can combine snap-ins to create a
custom management tool.
- Chat Web Administrator
A Web-based administration utility that a sysop manager uses to manage channels,
ban users, and modify the messages that are displayed to clients at connection time,
such as the message-of-the-day.
- Chatcmd
A command-line utility that you use to manage chat services, channels, classes, and portals.
For a complete description of the chatcmd utility and its command options, see the
Chat Service online documentation.
As a Windows NT administrator or chat sysop manager, you have full access to these tools.
You may also delegate specific administrative duties, such as managing channels and
banning users, to other members of your organization. For example, a sysop manager
will use Chat Web Administrator or a chat client to perform these and other
administrative tasks.
