Applying a Filter to a Persistent Channel

Complete the following steps to apply a filter to a persistent channel.

To apply a filter to a persistent channel

  1. From the Chat Service Manager utility, select a chat server under Microsoft Exchange Chat Service in the left pane.
  2. Select Extensions in the left pane.
  3. Verify that the Profanity Filter extension is displayed in the right pane. If it is not, from the Action menu, choose New, and then choose Add extension. Select the Profanity Filter extension, and then choose OK.
  4. Select Channels (Rooms), and then select the channel in the right pane.
  5. From the Action menu, choose Properties.
  6. In the Extensions property sheet, select the Profanity Filter extension, and then choose Properties.
  7. Select Filter messages to enable filtering.
  8. From the Select filter box, select the filter you want to apply to the channel.
  9. Under Apply to, choose All messages or Only messages sent to entire channel.
  10. Choose Apply, and then choose OK.

Tip You can also apply a filter to a persistent channel using the following command from a chat client:

EXTMSG PFILTER START PERSISTENT=channel_name MESSAGES=ALL LIST=filter_name

This command filters all messages sent to the channel, including whispers and invitations. To filter only messages that are sent to all channel members, type:

EXTMSG PFILTER START PERSISTENT=channel_name MESSAGES=PUBLIC LIST=filter_name
