Converting Messaging Applications

As part of your strategy, evaluate your existing messaging applications. Microsoft Exchange Server supports applications based on the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) and Common Mail Calls (CMC). You can replace some workgroup applications with public folders or custom forms. Other applications can be modified to work with MAPI.

When you decide to migrate an application, consider the following issues:

• How does the application interact with the existing system?
• Can you replace the application with public folders or custom forms, or modify it to use MAPI?
• Is this application needed across platforms?
• Does the application need to coexist during multi-phase migration?
