Setting Up Your Organization

Use the Setup program to install Microsoft Exchange Server on your Microsoft Windows NT Server computer. Before you set up your servers and sites, you should have a plan for deploying Microsoft Exchange Server. For example, you should determine your organization, site, and server names before installing Microsoft Exchange Server. You should also be familiar with Windows NT Server.

Important    Before running Setup, you should perform a complete backup on the computer where you will install Microsoft Exchange Server.

You start Microsoft Exchange Server Setup from the Microsoft Exchange Server Setup page, a Web page that runs automatically when the Microsoft Exchange Server compact disc is inserted into your CD-ROM drive. The page includes:

• A shortcut to Microsoft Exchange Server Setup.
• A shortcut to Microsoft Exchange Chat Service Setup. (Microsoft Exchange Chat Service enables users to communicate with each other online, in real time. For more information, see What's New: Microsoft Exchange Chat Service and Microsoft Exchange Chat Service Operations.)
• A download point to Service Pack 3 for Windows NT Server version 4.0.
