------------------------------------------------------------------------- ZETAFAX for Windows NT ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zetafax can be used with a mixture of Windows, Windows NT and Windows 95 machines as required. To install the Zetafax server on Windows NT: Ensure that you have full Administrator rights, then run the Zetafax Installation program (SETUP.EXE) from the 32 bit Zetafax server disks supplied. The workstation installation program will make some changes to the WIN.INI file [ports] and [extensions] sections. Under Windows NT these are mapped into sections of the Registry database. By default Administrators are allowed to make these changes. However if this has been changed on your computer you will get an error message when installing. If you do not wish to use the Windows NT machine as a workstation you can ignore this message; otherwise you should log in as a user with additional rights (or correct the permissions using REGEDT32), and rerun the installation. To install the Zetafax workstation on Windows NT: This is done automatically on the Zetafax server PC when you run the installation program. To configure other Zetafax workstations under Windows NT, log in as a user with full Administrator rights and then run the Workstation Setup program (zfax\SYSTEM\WKSETUP.EXE). See above if an error is displayed when trying to update the device settings. The workstation setup program installs a printer driver which you use to submit faxes from Windows applications. Under Windows NT (Intel) this is called "Zetafax FaxMerge printer", while under Windows 95 and Windows 3.x it is called "Zetafax printer". The "Zetafax FaxMerge printer" uses Windows NT's universal printer driver technology, and needs a DLL which is installed when you install one of the standard NT printer drivers. In the unlikely event that there are no other printers configured on the PC, you will need to install another printer first (the configuration does not matter). The Zetafax workstation setup program will inform you if this is necessary. While the "Zetafax printer" under Windows and Windows 95 starts the Zetafax workstation program automatically, this is not done on Windows NT. Here you should ensure that the workstation program is running and that it is not offline before printing a document; otherwise the addressing dialog will not be displayed until you next run the workstation. As an alternative to the Zetafax printers you can use a standard Epson LQ-1000 printer driver. This can be used where slightly different greyscale dithering is required, or on RISC versions of Windows NT. To install an Epson printer driver Use print manager to add a new printer with name set to "Zetafax printer", driver "Epson LQ-1000", and printing to "C:\WINNT\ZETAFAX.SPL" (in your Windows NT directory). This will be in the list of available ports - if not, ensure that the Workstation Setup program has been run, then try restarting Windows NT. Sending a fax To send a fax you just run the Zetafax workstation, then print to the Zetafax printer from any other Windows program. Provided the workstation is running and its title bar does not say "offline", the addressing dialog box will be displayed after a few moments. (If the workstation is offline you should check the Zetafax server is running, then choose "Server | Reconnect" from the workstation menu.)
