Cthugha97 - Dazed and Confused ALPHA VERSION 0.5 Read This First: ---------------- Cthugha97 requires DirectX 3.0 or higher to run. Currently, the alpha is a test of the technical problems of running on all hardware. This version should support all sound cards and video cards, but we know that it never works out that way :-) The 3D version requires a 3DFX based video card, and the latest GLIDE drivers from www.3dfx.com. Please don't email telling me it doesn't work on your other-brand card, the Direct3D version is in the works. Run Cthugha97, and make sure to start up your CD player or Midi, Line in or Mic (use the Win95 volume settings to get the balance right) Send bug reports to: cthugha@torps.apana.org.au Look for new Alpha's at: www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/1052 Troubleshooting: ---------------- *** There is now a troubleshooting page at my website wit *** up-to-date solutions for many problems, please visit! *** www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/1052 Q: Cthugha asks for DirectX 3, but reports that I have 4.03.xxx A: DirectX 3 is actually version 4.04, you've got DirectX 2 Q: I seem to get no response from the CD music on the screen A: Try turning the CD volume (in Win95) up to 3/4 or higher A: Check the CD->soundcard cable is connected A: The ESS688 chipset still seems to have problems A: SB16 - Get the latest DirectSound drivers from Creative Labs Q: Cthugha97 locks up every time I run it A: Run with the No-Video option, see if you get an error reported and email cthugha@torps.apana.org.au with the full details Q: Cthugha97 locks up once in a while A: Try the same as the last question, but leave it running for a long time... (hey, it's an alpha, ok!) Whats New in 0.5: ----------------- - 3D code is stable (runs all night without crashing!) - CD will auto-repeat if you don't skip tracks - Track skipping! left and right arrows to skip tracks - New waves (some really cool ones from the Mac version) - Information for people who want to register - Double Sound option, double the sound effect, but causes some stepping in waves - 3D Faster option, 2048 triangles per frame instead of 8096 per frame, faster but not as cute! - Now looks at 1024 sound samples per frame, which seems to work better than the old method.
