  Are you experiencing problems with BRIEF on a Compaq computer
  and you're using the CEMM.EXE from Compaq?  If the problems you
  are experiencing with BRIEF disappear when you remove CEMM from
  your config.sys, this could indicate a need to upgrade to a newer
  version of CEMM.  You should consider contacting Compaq for a
  newer version of CEMM.EXE.  There have been problems reported
  with CEMM.EXE versions as late as version 5.11.08, dated 9.28.92.
