What is EqEd/2 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EqEd/2 is an 100% PM WYSIWYG equation editor for OS/2. It has to this moment only been testet on OS/2 WARP and Warp-Connect. It comes with the ability to save your formular in bitmap, encapsulated PostScript, LaTeX and EqEd/2 format. This ensures your ability to include the formular in nearly any wordprocessor. EqEd/2 provides you with a choise of resolution of the formular. With this feature you can create high-resolution, and good looking formulars in your reports, even if including them as bitmaps! 3. Installion ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There's is currently 2 ways of installing EqEd/2 after unzipping the archive containging the eqed/2 files. 3.1 Manuelly. This program is easy to install. You just have to copy EqEd.exe and eqmacro.txt(later version) to a directory of your choice and then create a WPS-object for eqed. The Working directory should be the same as EqEd/2's home-directory. 3.2 The install script Unzip the eqed archive to an selected directory. Start the installation script with no arguments, like this. install.cmd The script will create an WPS-object for the program. 4. The keys, how do they work ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After starting the equation editor you should start by pressing F1. This will activate the quick-key window. It will be a lot easyer to use EqEd/2 when you have learned these keys. The cursor keys works like you are used to from your normal wordprocessor. The end-key will jump to the end af a line. If you are standing in an parentes, root, fraction, sub-/superscript or simular it will jump to the end of this. -end will always jump to the end of the currentline. The Home-key works the same way as the end key. -Home as well. Delete and back-space deletes items, NOT letters. they will delete a whole parentes INCLUDING the contents. REMEMBER THIS !!! experiment a bit, and learn them. 4.1 The F-keys F1: Turns the "Online Keys" window on/off F2: Go to SubScript F3: Go to Superscript F4: Create a Root F5: Create a fraction F6: Create a fraction without line F7: Create autosize parenthesis F8: Create an intergral sign F9: Acitivate the PopUp menu F10: The System Menu(OS/2 default!) If you do not want to use the F2 and F3 for sub- and super script, you can always use the '_' and '^' keys. They work the same way. 5. The Gadgets ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The About gadget opens a small about window. The save-as gadget lets you save your formular in the selected format(do this in the save-preferences). The Load gadget is disablet for future use. The quit gadget, ... Take a wild guess ;) The five small gadgets on the right-top-end of the window is used for changing font-style. The styles are Normal, Italic, Bold, Bold-Italic and Greek Style. Beneith them is the sizing gadgets. They are used to change the text-size. The Macro-gadget opens the macro window. Choose your macro and it will be executet. The sixs gadgets in the top of the window each opens one small window with commands for the editor. 5.1 The lower Greek window This window contains the lower case greek letters. 5.2 The upper Greek window This window contains the upper case greek letters. 5.3 The accent window From this window you can choose accents for your formular. There are to types of accents, wide and single. The single accents is one-letter accents only. The wide accents can be used to place whole equations under. Try them out. 5.4 The integral window This window contains the integral, summa, multipla and parentes signs. Some of them changes size with theyre contents. 5.5 The arrow window This window contains all arrows you could possibly be asking for. There is also sign for N, R, Z, C cardinal numbers. 5.6 The special window In this window all the special mathematical signs like ">", "=" and so on. 6. The PopUpMenu ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The PopUp menu is activatet by pressing right mouse button anywhere in the main- or equation window. 6.1 The Files Menu In this menu you can choose New, Load, Save and Quit. "New" and "Load" is not working, they are for future use. Save has the same effect as the "Save As" button on the main window. "Quit" has the same effect as the "Quit" button. 6.2 The Edit Menu The Block commands(cut, paste, copy) does not work yet. The editing commands(sub-/superscript, fraction, root etc.) work exatly like the functions in the on-line window or gadgets. The last menu item is used for saving the formular as a bitmap in the clipboard. This function is also working fine. It uses the same resolution as the working resolution, my advise: Use this for preview only, 300x300 dpi looks much nicer in a printet document. 6.3 The Styles Menu All the items in this menu works fine. They have the same effect as the equvelent functions on the main window gadgets. 6.4 The Settings Menu This menu is used to configure EqEd/2. Read about this in the next chapter. The last menuitem is used for saving the preferences. 6.5 The Help Item This is not implented YET!, for future use... 6.6 The About Item This has the same effect as the about gadget on the main window. It opens the about window. 6.7 The Online Item This menuitem opens the small window with "hotkeys". It the same as pressing "F1". 7. Preferences ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are at this time to preferences windows in EqEd/2. 7.1 Working preferences These preferences is used for configuring the editor while your working. 7.1.1 Rulers This option will turn rulers on and off. This wil NOT infect the speed of eqed/2... 7.1.2 ([{ like in window Use this option if you dont want to go to the integral window to create ([{ parenteses in autosize mode. 7.1.3 Inch/Metric This option lets you choose between rulers in inch and metric - mode. 7.1.4 Resolution Here you can choose resultion of the working screen. 100x100 dpi and 150x150dpi works fine, but 300x300dpi is a bit slow, depending on your gfx-card and processor. 7.1.5 Remember window positions Use this options if you want to place the sixs work-windows where you want to, and not at the standard positions. 7.2 Saving preferences This window is for choosing resolution for your saved formulars, as well as the format in wich they are saved. Beware!!!! Latex output is yet very primitive. It supports all "normal" greek charecters, fractions, roots, Summa, lim, parenthesis and accents. But is does not, repeat not, support all the mathematical symbols. YET !!! But try it out, and see for your self. 7.3 Font preferences This is a standard font dialog, in which you are able to choose the font you would like to use in the equation editor. It is not every font availeble that supports the sizes that EqEd uses.(24, 18, 14 and 10). So if you should get an "Unable to open 24.xxxxx", try using another font. The following standard font works with EqEd/2(or should work ;) 1. Times New Roman 2. Helvetica 3. Courier There seems to be some problems with Switch and Roman, anyone ??
