WebExplorer Organizer Version 01.01.01 June 3, 1996 Welcome to ONG SoftWare's WebExplorer Organizer V01.01.01. What is WebExplorer Organizer for OS/2(WebXOrg for short)? Have you ever wanted a way to organize that growing list of Quicklist entries for WebExplorer? If so then WebXOrg is for you. WebXOrg gives you an easy to use interface to quickly organize your collection of WebExplorer Quicklist entries. TO INSTALL OR UPGRADE: Unzip webxorg.zip into the directory of your choice using the the -d parameter. This will unzip the program with the proper directory structure: ..\file_id.diz Program description ..\history.txt Complete history of the program ..\license.doc License agreement for the program ..\readme.1st Important information to be read first ..\register.txt How to register WebXOrg ..\webxorg.doc Documentation file ..\webxorg.exe The program itself ..\pages\ Directory to hold built pages ..\icons\ Directory to hold icons used by the program ..\icons\folder.ico Folder icon ..\icons\webx.ico WebExplorer icon ..\pics\ Directory for future use WebXOrg requires that you have a copy of VROBJ.DLL in your libpath to run. The easiest place to place it would be in your ..\os2\dll\ directory. If you do not have a copy you can get it at our WebPage( see end of docs for the address ). You are now ready to run WebXOrg by double-clicking on the program. THE WEBXORG WINDOW: The WebXorg Window( the actual program ) consists of four main parts: Program Title-Bar Settings Menu Web Sites Area Web Pages Area PROGRAM TITLE-BAR: This area will display the current WebExplorer INI file you are working with. SETTINGS MENU: This Menu will open the settings notebook for the program. The settings notebook has five pages as follows: PROGRAM - Settings for the program. CONFIRM ON EXIT. - When checked the program will ask if you are sure you want to exit when you go to exit the program. WEBSITES - Settings for the WebSites area. DELETE WEBSITE AFTER DRAG. - When checked the program will delete the WebSite from the WebSite area after it is added to a WebPage. CONFIRM ON RELOAD INI FILE. - When checked the program will ask if you are sure you want to reload the current WebExplorer INI file you are working on and lose all changes made to it. CONFIRM ON UPDATE INI FILE. - When checked the program will ask if you are sure you want to update the current WebExplorer INI file you are working on. CONFIRM ON DELETE WEBSITE. - When checked the program will ask if you are sure you want to delete the currently selected WebSite. IF CHANGED, ASK TO UPDATE ON EXIT. - When checked the program will ask you if you want to update the current WexExplorer INI file you were working on when you exited the program if it has changed at all. UPDATE INI FILE ON EXIT. - When checked the program will automatically update the current WebExplorer INI file you were working on when you exited the program. WEBPAGES - Settings for the WebPages area. MINI ICON VIEW. - When checked the WebPages area will be displayed with miniature icons. CONFIRM ON RELOAD WEBPAGES. - When checked the program will ask if you are sure you want to reload the WebPages and lose all changes made to it. CONFIRM ON BUILD WEBPAGES. - When checked the program will ask if you are sure you want to build the WebPages. CONFIRM ON DELETE WEBPAGE. - When checked the program will ask if you are sure you want to delete the currently selected WebPage. CONFIRM ON DELETE WEBPAGESITE. - When checked the program will ask if you are sure you want to delete the currently selected WebPages and all of the its WebSites. CONFIRM ON UPDATE WEBPAGE SITE. - When checked the program will ask if you are sure you want to update a WebSite when you drop another WebSite onto it to perform an update/replace operation. IF CHANGED, ASK TO BUILD ON EXIT. - When checked the program will ask you if you want to build the WebPages when you exit the program if they have changed at all. BUILD WEBPAGES ON EXIT. - When checked the program will automatically build the WebPages when you exit the program. REGISTER - Allows a registered user to enter their registration code to register the program. ABOUT - Displays the name, version, and copyright information about the program. WEB SITES AREA: This area displays all of the QuickList entries for the currently opened INI file. A hashed box next to a QuickList entry means that it has already been added to a WebPage. Clicking your right mouse button over this area will bring up the following menu: OPEN - Allows you to open any other WebExplorer INI files you might have. A list of the last five WebExplorer INI files you have opened, if any. RELOAD INI FILE - Allows you to reload the INI file, but will cause all changes to be lost. UPDATE INI FILE - This will rewrite the current INI file you are editing. This needs to be done if you want your changes to be saved. These changes include deleting web sites and/or sorting the QuickList entries. SORT - This will sort the QuickList entires. They can be sorted either ascending or descending. You must perform an UPDATE INI FILE for this change to be permanent. DELETE WEB SITE - This will delete the current web site from the QuickList. You must perform an UPDATE INI FILE for this change to be permanent. SETTINGS - Will open the settings notebook to the WebSite's settings page. EXIT - Exits the program. WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING ---------------------------------------------------- | WHEN YOU PERFORM AN UPDATE INI FILE, THE CURRENT | | INI FILE YOU ARE WORKING ON IS OVERWRITTEN WITH | | ANY AND ALL CHANGES YOU HAVE MADE. SO IF YOU | | HAVE DELETED A SITE WITHOUT MOVING IT TO A | | WEBPAGE AND PERFORMING A BUILD WEBPAGES YOU LOSE | | THE WEB SITE. | ---------------------------------------------------- WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WEB PAGES AREA: This area displays all of the pages you have setup to organize your web sites. Clicking you right mouse button will bring a certain menu depending on what you are currently on. All options for all of the WebPages menus are listed below: EXIT - Exits the program. RELOAD WEBPAGES - Allows you to reload the WebPages, but will cause all changes to be lost. BUILD WEPAGES - This will build the WebPages you just setup. Also it edits your INI file so that the next time you open WebExplorer the Main WebPage will be shown, which will list the Sub WebPages, which will contain your WebSites. Then you can click on the Sub WebPage and goto the that page and select the WebSite you want. RENAME WEBPAGE - This allows you to rename your WebPages. You must perform a BUILD WEBPAGES for this change to be permanent. Must have a name, cannot be lefted blank. ADD NEW WEBPAGE - This will add another WebPage to be used to store your web sites in. You must perform a BUILD WEBPAGES for this change to be permanent. Must have a name. connot be lefted blank. SORT - The sort works like this: It will first sort the WebPages, then within the WebPages it will sort the WebSites. They can be sorted either ascending or descending. You must perform a BUILD WEBPAGES for this changes to be permanent. EXPAND ALL - This will completely expand the Main WebPage's tree. COLLAPSE ALL - This will completely collapse the Main WebPage's tree. SETTINGS - Will open the settings notebook to the WebPage's settings page. DELETE WEB SITE - This will delete the WebSite from a WebPage. You must perform a BUILD WEBPAGES for this change to be permanent. DELETE WEBPAGE - This will delete the WebPage and ALL WebSites stored within it. You must perform a BUILD WEBPAGES for this change to be permanent. WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING ---------------------------------------------------- | WHEN YOU PERFORM A BUILD WEBPAGES, THE CURRENT | | WEBPAGE FILES ARE OVERWRITTEN WITH ANY AND ALL | | CHANGES YOU HAVE MADE. SO IF YOU HAVE DELETED A | | SITE YOU WILL LOSE IT. | ---------------------------------------------------- WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING GETTING STARTED: Now that we have an understanding of the program's window layout lets get started. I am going to list the steps needed to setup a few pages to get you used to how the program works. 1) First start the program. 2) Right-Click on the Main WebPage Folder in the WebPages area. 3) Click on Rename WebPage. 4) When Dialog appears type in your name for your Main WebPage. 5) Click OK. 6) Right-Click anywhere within the WebPages area. 7) Click on Add New WebPage. 8) When Dialog appears type in the name of the Sub WebPage. i.e. OS/2 Pages 9) Click OK. 10) Repeat steps 6 - 9 a couple of times. 11) Now find a WebSite from the WebSite area you would like to add to the first Sub WebPage. 12) Drag that WebSite to the Sub WebPage Folder and drop it in. 13) Repeat steps 11 - 12 for a few WebSites. 14) Right-Click on the Main WebPage folder. 15) Click on Build WebPages. Your WebPages are now built. Now start WebExplorer and you'll see your new way of Surfing the World Wide Web. To return to your Main WebPage all you have to do is click on the Home icon on the WebExplorer ToolBar. EXTRA THINGS TO TRY: 1) Drag a WebSite from one WebPage to another WebPage. You have moved the location of that WebSite to the other WebPage. 2) Drag a WebSite from either the WebSites or WebPages area onto a WebSite in a WebPage. You have now either Updated or Replaced that WebSite with the WebSite you just dropped onto it.
