Ultima 8: Pagan --------------- This simple patch will allow you to experience General MIDI music on your Sound Blaster AWE32 when you play Origin System's Ultima 8. <> The patch was developed by Creative Labs, Inc., and not by Origin Systems. The original release of Ultima 8 by Origin Systems did not have Sound Blaster AWE32 support, so Creative Labs has produced this patch for users who want to enjoy the Sound Blaster AWE32's MIDI capabilities with Ultima 8. Origin Systems holds no responsibility whatsoever in the distribution and usage of this patch. If you have any enquiries about this patch, please direct them to Creative Labs, Inc., and not to Origin Systems. <> To install the patch, follow these steps: 1. Copy the AILAWE32.DLL file into your \ULTIMA8 directory 2. Run INSTALL.EXE from your \ULTIMA8 directory. 3. When asked to select a Music Board, choose General MIDI. Indicate the correct MPU-401 address currently used by your Sound Blaster AWE32 card. 4. After the INSTALL.EXE program returns you to DOS, copy the AILAWE32.DLL file over the AILXMI.DLL file. Example: C:\ULTIMA8>copy AILAWE32.DLL AILXMI.DLL This will overwrite the file AILXMI.DLL (generated by the Ultima 8 INSTALL program) with the AWE32 MIDI driver. Note: AILXMI.DLL does not need to be saved because it is created each time you run the Ultima 8 INSTALL.EXE program. If, at a later time, you wish to regenerate the original AILXMI.DLL file, simply run INSTALL.EXE again. Also, please note that whenever you run INSTALL.EXE and change the music settings, the AWE32-version of the AILXMI.DLL file will be overwritten by the AILXMI.DLL file generated by Ultima 8. Simply repeat step (4) and copy the AILAWE32.DLL file over the AILXMI.DLL file to re-enable Ultima 8 to use the AWE32's MIDI capabilities. 5. Launch Ultima 8 from DOS, sit back, and enjoy the AWE-some MIDI music from your Sound Blaster AWE32!
