ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ SYMPTOM CHKDSK is not compatible with Stacker 4.0 drives. SOLUTION Overwrite the CHKDSK.EXE file on NWDOS directory with the new CHKDSK.EXE file. This version of CHKDSK.EXE includes a /NS command line parameter that you can use to instruct CHKDSK not to do internal Stacker checking. This can be used so that CHKDSK is compatible with Stacker 4.0 drives. SYMPTOM Speed issues NWCDEX CD-ROM extension driver are occurring. SOLUTION Overwrite the NWCDEX.EXE file on NWDOS directory with the new NWCDEX.EXE file. This is a German version of NWCDEX that can help with some speed issues with NWCDEX CD-ROM extension driver. This file also fixes some other minor issues. SYMPTOM Users are experiencing problems with the DPMS.EXE file that ships with Novell DOS 7. SOLUTION This DPMS.EXE file is a more current version of the DPMS.EXE file than the one that ships with PERSONAL NetWare or Novell DOS 7 (PNW or NWDOS7). SYMPTOM Users are experiencing loss of characters and speed of transmission during modem communications. SOLUTION Use the SETFIFIO.EXE utility. This utility allows the user to set the 16550 FIFO buffers to 1, 4, 8, or 14 bytes. This is only possible on a 16550 UART chip. This affects the speed of data transmission on serial ports. The higher value (up to 14) the better the speed of transmission. This can solve both speed problems and some problems with a loss of characters during modem communications. SYMPTOM EMM386.EXE update fixes a possible problem with NE2100 cards, also fixes problem with second DMA controller on PS/2 and compatible machines when channels 5, 6 or 7 are selected. SOLUTION Overwrite the EMM386.EXE file on NWDOS directory with the new EMM386.EXE file. SYMPTOM HIMEM.SYS update fixes some EMS page frame problems. SOLUTION Overwrite the HIMEM.SYS file on NWDOS directory with the new HIMEM.SYS file. SYMPTOM With new MEMMAX.COM, only the primary command processor can now change the memory state. (It can't be changed by a secondary command processor, such as a DOS shell). SOLUTION Overwrite the MEMMAX.COM file on NWDOS directory with the new MEMMAX.COM file. SYMPTOM Accessing the Stacker volume would cause EMM386 protection exceptions to occur if users had Stacker 4.0 on their hard disk and they upgraded to Novell DOS 7. SYMPTOM Problem with a double \\ and NetWare 4.x LOGIN.EXE. For example: "D:\\filename.ext" SYMPTOM Problem that was related to corrupt directory entries that caused the system to read beyond the end-of-chain. SYMPTOM Problem with the key combinations ALT-T and ALT-Q that did not work correctly with the Colorado Tape software. SOLUTION XCOPY the new IBMDOS.COM to root directory using /HR switch, then use ATTRIB -A +R +S +H to make the file system read only hidden file. Example: "XCOPY A:IBMDOS.COM C:\IBMDOS.COM /HR" "ATTRIB -A +R +S +H C:\IBMDOS.COM" Self-Extracting File Name: D70U04.EXE Revision: A Files Included Size Date Time \ D70U04.TXT (This File) DPMS.EXE 47375 03-16-94 8:18a HIMEM.SYS 14567 05-10-94 9:39a CHKDSK.EXE 59435 03-23-94 12:35p EMM386.EXE 178549 05-17-94 10:29a IBMDOS.COM 29684 05-20-94 7:00a MEMMAX.COM 2346 05-10-94 9:39a NWCDEX.EXE 20446 03-23-94 12:35p SETFIFO.EXE 1982 04-01-94 8:55a Installation Instructions: Make a backup copy of each file being replaced before copying the new file in to that same directory.
