All products mentioned in this documentation are protected either by copyright or programming ethics. INTRODUCTION =-=-=-=-=-=- LOGPlus! version 3 is possibly the most comprehensive Amateur Radio program on the market today. LOGPlus! provides the greatest flexibility of any other Amateur Radio program on the market. Far exceeding programs like 2ndOp, DXLog, DXBase, SWISSLOG and others, LOGPlus! makes every effort to incorporate the latest information available. This version of LOGPlus! represents major revisions and improvements. Many new and powerful features have been added to assist you in your everyday Amateur Radio needs. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- IBM PC AT/PS2 or true IBM compatible computer Hard drive MS/PS-DOS 3.3 or higher 640K Memory capability EPSON compatible printer (80 column) NOTE: A 386 or higher system is highly recommended. MODIFICATIONS TO YOUR CONFIG.SYS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Your computer must have sufficient resources to run. Please modify your CONFIG.SYS file to conform with these settings: BUFFERS=30 FILES=50 MULTI-TASKING SOFTWARE =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- LOGPlus! v3 has been tested in both Windows (Windows for WorkGroups) and O/S2 environments. An ICON file (LOGPLUS.ICO) and PIF file (LOGPLUS.PIF) are provided for Windows users. Programs such as Desqview have been tested to some extent, and work well. NEVER, load more than one copy of LOGPlus! when using multi-tasking software such as Windows. You may end up with some very strange results. Even though some users have reported excellent results running two copies of LOGPlus! ( 1 on Dumb Terminal and 1 for logging ), this practice is not recommended. DO'S AND DO'NTS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -2- LOGPlus! version 3.0 DO Make copies of your distribution disk(s) and store them away in a safe place DO Read the manual cover to cover before running the program. 99.9% of all support calls or letters received, relate to something specified in the manual. BUFFERS and FILES settings in the CONFIG.SYS file are the major problem many individuals face. DO Play with all the features of the program before loading your final log. Kick the tires to make sure you're knowledgeable in what the program will do. Once you've done this, delete everything from the \PLUSV3 directory and re-install. DO Make periodic backups of your LOGBOOK and DXCC database. It's terrible to see hours or possibly days of hard work go down the tubes. I can not stress this point enough. It would be horrible to lose hundreds of hours of work! The built in backup feature provided with LOGPlus! is easy to use and painless! DO Exit the LOGPlus! program in an orderly fashion. DO PASS THE WORD!!!! DO NOT Distribute this program to other individuals. This only discourages me from writing additional updates to the program. DO NOT Run TSR (Memory Resident Programs) while using the LOGPlus! program. Even though VMM (Virtual Memory Management) is used (see definitions), TSR's cause havoc to memory addresses this program may need to use. DO NOT EVER turn off or re-boot your computer while LOGPlus! is running. Data will be lost or files may become corrupted. DO NOT Rename any file associated with the LOGPlus! program. Naming conventions are extremely important to the overall performance. UPGRADE/UPDATE POLICY =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= LOGPlus! is a continually evolving program with modifications added to improve the performance and to keep up to date with changes in the Amateur Radio World! The current version, which will be displayed at the main menu, is extremely important for update purposes. A bulletin board system has been established to allow users the opportunity to download updates at anytime. If you're unable to utilize the bulletin board system, upgrades can be obtained by sending $4.00 USD. Remember, these are MINOR upgrades to the program not MAJOR releases. TECHNICAL SUPPORT -3- LOGPlus! version 3.0 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= I strongly feel you, the user, deserves the best technical support possible. However, if you fail to read this manual cover to cover, you'll be wasting your money. If a problem arises which is not documented, or you just want to ask questions relating to possible improvements or changes, you can: 1. Write me a letter. When asking questions via mail, it's best to return the original disk(s) along with a copy of your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. This allows me to fully understand the problems you may be having. YOU MUST PROVIDE SUFFICIENT POSTAGE TO COVER THE SAFE RETURN OF YOUR DISKETTE(S). NO ACTION WILL BE TAKEN IF POSTAGE IS NOT RECEIVED. 2. Call the BBS and leave a message for the SysOp. Responses will be available usually within 72 hours. BULLETIN BOARD SYSTEM =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In an effort to provide the latest information possible and to answer any questions, I have establishing a 24 HOUR BBS system. The major purpose of the BBS will be to assist with LOGPlus!. Free minor upgrades will be available to all registered users at no cost. In addition, if you have a particular print out, customizing you'd like to see, whatever I can possibly do, I will provide them only on the BBS. The following files will ALWAYS be available for downloading: DXCC.DBF PRFX.DBF PREFIXES.DBF QMGR.DBF QLABELS.DBF If you maintain an extensive QSL MANAGER SYSTEM using LOGPlus!, please share the information with others. Updated QMGR.DBF and QLABELS.DBF files will be provided. Rememeber, you must send both QMGR.DBF and QLABELS.DBF if you wish the information incorporated with other information. CONFIGURATION =-=-=-=-=-=-= Baud rates: 300/1200/2400/9600/14400 Data Bit: 8 Parity: None Stop: 1 USER ACCESS =-=-=-=-=-= Everyone will have access to the system. DEMO programs as well -4- LOGPlus! version 3.0 as other Amateur Radio programs will be available for downloading. Every registered user will be automatically upgraded to V3USER status after the first login. Please, don't get in the habit of using your call sign as your password. It's not difficult to determine your password if you do! Make sure you leave a note for the SysOp if you wish your status updated. I do not like ALIASES, "THE HACKER", "THE DXER" etc.. I think you understand. Those individuals who insist on using such names will be logged out and never allowed in. COMMENTS TO ALL USERS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Feel free to use the system as a mailbox to other users. You'd be surprised at the number of people who have shortcuts which may help you out. RECEIVING AN UPGRADE =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Each time you log on to the system, the program will tell you what the latest version is along with the changes made. If you want to receive a copy of the latest update, you MUST request a copy. Once this is done, you'll be able to log back in within 72 HOURS and download the update. This is for MINOR UPDATES ONLY! CONVERSION PROGRAMS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Conversion programs for many of the logging programs available today can be provided upon request. If I do not currently have a conversion, one can usually be provided; however, I will need to see the program and ALL data files you wish converted. If you send a copyrighted program, I will use it only to convert your data and destroy it afterward. No other users will have access to it. I am a strong believer in the rights of the programmer. Unfortunately, its impossible to write a conversion program if I don't have all the tools. To keep the cost of LOGPlus! down, I can't afford to purchase every logging program out there. Here is a basic list of program currently available. Other can/may be available upon request: DXLOG, DXBASE, 2NDOP, TURBOLOG, TOPLOG, HYPERLOG, LOGMASTER, G3ZCZ, WB2DND, EASYDX, SWISSLOG, LOGIC3, GEMRADIO, EQF-LOG, WJ2O FUNCTION KEYS =-=-=-=-=-=-= Function keys are used throughout the program to activate various pop up windows and programs. -5- LOGPlus! version 3.0 ALT-F1 Hold down both the ALT key and F1 key at the same time. CTRL-F1 Hold down both the CTRL key and F1 key at the same time. SHFT-F1 Hold down both the SHIFT key and F1 key at the same time. SPECIAL EDIT KEYS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Special edit keys have been programmed to closely follow the WordStar control sequence for navigation and entry. These edit keys can usually be used when entering data in most fields. It's best to "PLAY AROUND" to become familiar with each. Edit Key Action ==-=-=-= =-=-=- Left Arrow or CTRL-S Move one character to the left Right Arrow or CTRL-D Move one character to the right CTRL-Left Arrow or CTRL-A Move one word to the left CTRL-Right Arrow or CTRL-F Move one word to the right Up Arrow or CTRL-E Move to previous field Down Arrow, CTRL-X, Enter, CTRL-M Move to next field Home Beginning of field End End of field CTRL-Home Beginning of first field CTRL-End End of field Del or CTRL-G Delete character at cursor position Backspace or CTRL-H Delete character to left of cursor CTRL-T Delete to end of word CTRL-Y Delete to end of field CTRL-U Restore field to former value NOTE: This will only function if you press CTRL-U before exiting the next field Ins or CTRL-V Turn insert On/Off CTRL-W, CTRL-C, PgUp or PgDn Save all fields and terminate read ESC Terminate read, don't save field NOTE: The key is used in most modules throughout this program to exit and return to a menu. This key is also used to terminate the program. LOGGING INTO LOGPLUS! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= LOGPlus! is a protected program which requires you to use your CallSign when logging in. To activate LOGPlus! from DOS: LOG KD7P >> Execute LOGPlus! with COLOR LOG KD7P /N >> Execute LOGPlus! in monochrome LOG KD7P -R >> Execute LOGPlus! without Statistics Display Remember, use your call sign not mine! -6- LOGPlus! version 3.0 If you enter the wrong CallSign, the program will politely tell you the wrong call was entered. MULTIPLE CALLSIGNS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- After playing around with various other logging programs, I found one major deficiency which restricted DX stations from using one program to maintain numerous logs. When LOGPlus! was written, one of the major objectives was to provide a quick and effective way of maintaining more than one log, and having the ability to shift between them quickly. LOGPlus! v3 has the ability to maintain 20 different logbooks. CREATING AND SHIFTING BETWEEN LOGS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The first thing we must do is tell LOGPlus! how many logs we'll be tracking. To create or shift between logs you must be at the main menu. By pressing the F6 key, a pop up window will display on the right hand side of the screen. You'll notice that menu A> has already been assigned the call you ordered the program under. This can not be changed. To add a new log, move the highlight bar down to the next available line which says "No CallSign" and press the ENTER key. Enter the CallSign you wish to track then press ENTER again. Continue this process for each CallSign. Once you're done, exit to the main menu to insure the information is saved. A file called CALLS.MEM will be located in the \PLUSV3\ directory. You will also notice that each of the sub-directories required was automatically created. All that will be required at this point is to placing the necessary files into those sub-directories. From this point on each time you press F6 from the main menu, you'll notice the calls you entered. DIRECTORY STRUCTURE =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- When working with multiple logs it's necessary to make sure the data is separated to reduce any conflicts. Sub-directories are the method we use to keep this separation. The major directory will always be called \PLUSV3\ and contain the log files for your master log (the call you ordered the program under) and all the MAJOR files which are not required in the sub-directories. Here is an example of how my logging system and sub-directories would look. Except for the first call, the order is strictly up to you. \PLUSV3\ >> KD7P \PLUSV3\LOG1\ >> KD7P/NH2 \PLUSV3\LOG2\ >> KD7P/NH4 \PLUSV3\LOG3\ >> KD7P/NH7 \PLUSV3\LOG4\ >> KD7P/KC4 \PLUSV3\LOG5\ >> KD7P/OA4 -7- LOGPlus! version 3.0 \PLUSV3\LOG6\ >> KD7P/LU2 REQUIRED DATABASE FILES IN EACH SUB-DIRECTORY =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The following files MUST be located in each of the sub-directories created. If the program can not find the necessary files, it will make an effort to use the \PLUSV3\ files. This may cause problems with other logs, especially the master log. Please use caution!!! A batch file called MULTI.BAT has been provide to make this task easier, please read the README.1ST file for instructions on it's use. BANDCNT.DBF BUREAU.DBF COUNTY.DBF DIRECT.DBF DX.DBF DXCC.DBF GENERIC.DBF LOGBOOK.DBF LOGTEMP.DBF OBLAST.DBF OTHER.DBF SETUP.DBF SWL.DBF PENDING.DBF WAS.DBF SATELITE.DBF WAZ.DBF IOTA.DBF TEMPQSL.DBF IOTANF.DBF GETTING AROUND THE BROWSE/MODIFY =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Browse/Modify modules in LOGPlus! v3 are powerful features which offer a birds-eye view of your data, extreme flexibility and easy of operation. Every effort has been made to standardize the keys (arrow, function etc..), to reduce the learning curve. This section will describe these standards to reduce duplication. If a particular module uses different function keys to accomplish a task, information will be provided under the Browse/Modify section for that particular module describing the changes. Arrow Keys =-=-=-=-=- NOTE: If the record pointer is at the top or bottom of the databases and the corresponding key is pressed in an attempt to go further, a BEEP will sound, alerting you this can not be done. Up Arrow - Move record pointer up one record. Down Arrow - Move record pointer down one record. PgUp - Move record pointer up one full page. The actual number of records moved dependings on the module. PgDN - Move record pointer down one full page. The actual number of records moved dependings on the module. -8- LOGPlus! version 3.0 CTRL+PgUp - Move record pointer to top of file. CTRL+PgDn - Move record pointer to bottom of file. ESC - Exit module and return to previous menu. ENTER - Editor function. This allows you to quickly modify data for the record currently highlighted. THE MAIN SCREEN =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= With LOGPlus! v3, a new MAIN SCREEN has been introduced to provide an wealth of information. Broken down into two windows, the information is easily read. FUNCTION KEYS ACTIVE AT MAIN SCREEN =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ALT_H = Help! ALT_R = Refresh Statistics Window ALT_T = Run HamBase ALT_U = Run Sam ALT_V = Run BuckMaster ALT_W = Run QRZ F6 = Select different logbook CTRL-F7 = Drop to DOS Shell CTRL-F8 = Run External Program CTRL-F9 = Run External Program CTRL-F10 = Run External Program SHFT-TAB = Screen blanking >> can be used throughout the program. User programmable function keys provide the flexibility to run nearly ANY program of your choicing. Simple by pressing the SHIFT and corresponding F key, you'll quickly be teleported to the program of of choicing. Once you exit the external program, you'll be placed directly back to the point you left off! Programming these keys is simple and will be explained in the Program Parameter Defaults (N) section later in this manual. STATISTICS WINDOW (TOP WINDOW) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Statistics window provides a wealth of information about your logbook the moment you log into LOGPlus!. At a glance, you'll know the exact breakdown of your logbook as well as your DXCC statistics. LOG: 6303 SAT: 6 DXCC Countries: 385 CW: 4821 CW: 4 ACTIVE Countries: 329 SSB: 1479 SSB: 2 DELETED Countries: 56 -9- LOGPlus! version 3.0 RTY: 0 RTY: 0 ARRL CFMD WRKD NEED FM: 3 FM: 0 CW: 0( 0) 0( 0) 2( 2) 383(327) AM: 0 AM: 0 SSB: 0( 0) 0( 0) 0( 0) 385(329) OTHER: 0 OTHER: 0 RTY: 0( 0) 0( 0) 0( 0) 385(329) DELETED: 73 DELETED: 0 MIX: 0( 0) 0( 0) 2( 2) 383(327) Most of the fields are self-explainatory. Second number represents only ACTIVE DXCC Countries NOTE: On slower machines this window can take up to 30/60 seconds to update. Because of this, this screen is refreshed only during the initial start up or by pressing the ALT_R key combination. MENU WINDOW (BOTTOM WINDOW) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Menu window contains all the different menu selections offered within LOGPlus!. Each different menu selection will be explained below. A> Logbook Management =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The following discreption describes menu options A>, B>, C> and D>. The power and flexibility of LOGPlus! is no doubt centered around the Real-Time and Off Air logging modules. Both of these modules provide at your finger tips, information which can be brought up quickly and viewed. Function keys have been programmed to provide you with flexibility and ease of operation. The information described below will be general in nature and cover the Real-Time, Off Air and most of the general features of the Satellite logging modules. The major difference between standard logging and Satellite logging is the data field sizes and location. All other features remain the same. WORKING WITH DELETED COUNTRIES =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Before we start to explain the power of this module, we must first spell out how the program manipulates DXCC data. Unfortunately our world is changing on a daily basis. Countries seem to be popping up all over or being absorbed into existing one. Appendix A contains a complete listing of countries which are active and those deleted. HOW DELETED COUNTRIES ARE DETERMINED =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- We must have a way in which LOGPlus! can easily determine the current -10- LOGPlus! version 3.0 status of a contact. Working with deleted countries is not easy! We can really screw up the whole program by not following the standard guidelines spelled out in this manual. The DXCC section contains a complete breakdown on how to enter deleted countries and assign prefixes to those countries. Please read this section carefully before making any changes. EXAMPLE =-=-=-= On June 30, 1962 at 23:50GMT you work 9U5AA on 15m. When LOGPlus! conducts a DXCC search, the country Ruanda-Urundi was credited with the contact. A short while later on July 01, 1962 at 00:53GMT you work 9U5AA again but this time on 20m. When LOGPlus! conducted a DXCC search this time, the country Burundi was credited. WHY? The reason is simple, at 00:01 on July 01, 1962 the country of Ruanda- Urundi ceased to exist as a DXCC country. Independence was granted with self-determination and rule. LOGPlus! knew this because of the information in the DXCC.DBF and PRFX.DBF files to automatically credit the newly independent country. Remember, this may not work with every deleted country. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Three database files (DXCC.DBF, PRFX.DBF and PREFIXES.DBF) are critical and must be maintained to provide up to date information. Obviously some users may feel uncomfortable with making these changes. If a country is added or deleted from the DXCC Countries List, you can do one of three things to update these files: 1. Do it yourself! 2. Call the BBS system which will be established by the end of the year. All registered users will receive the telephone number once established. You can download a new copy of each. 3. Send a request along with sufficient postage ( $4.00 USD) for new copies. I'll forward them immediately. REAL-TIME AND OFF AIR LOGGING SCREEN =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The screen is broken down into four sections. Each are critical to the performance of LOGPlus! QSO DISPLAY WINDOW =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The QSO Display Window is the upper screen area used to display the last 11 QSOs, previous QSOs and the PacketCluster data. During standard Real-Time and Off Air logging, the QSO Display Window will -11- LOGPlus! version 3.0 continuously display the last 11 QSOs in a basic logbook format. When a call is entered, the log is checked for any previous QSOs. If any are found, the QSO Display Window will clear and display only those QSOs which meet the call criteria. If the call is not found, you will see something like: ZA1AA not found in log... After the log has been searched, the program will extract the DXCC information from the call. Once the prefix has been extracted the DXCC database is checked to determine if the country is a new one. If the DXCC database reports to the program that Albania is an ALL TIME NEW COUNTRY, the screen will display: Albania is an ALL TIME new DXCC Country! However, if Albania was previously worked on 15m and you've now logged him on 20m, the program will determine the DXCC band and mode status and inform you. If Albania turns out to be a new band country, the screen will display: Albania is a NEW CW DXCC Country! Once the QSO has been saved to the log, the screen will restore the last 11 QSOs on the screen and await your next entry. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- When working with the PacketCluster monitoring ON, the last 11 QSOs are NOT displayed automatically, to display this information you must press the F7 key. The QSO Display Window is used to monitor the PacketCluster system. See the Dumb Terminal Program for more information on how the PacketCluster monitor works. DATA ENTRY WINDOW =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Data Entry Window provides the means of logging contacts. To change from field to field, use either the TAB or ENTER keys. LOGPlus! has been written to accept DEFAULTS whenever possible. When the program first loads, the cursor will be located in the FREQ field. In some cases, the ENTER key is not required to move from field to field. If you attempt to exceed the maximum number of characters allowed, the cursor will automatically jump to the next field. To move back to a previously entered field, use the arrow keys. If you're in Off Air logging one additional field can be modified, that is the QSL field. This field is usually updated only if you're entering data into your log from the past year. If you're updating a current QSO, use the QSL Card Updating to automatically update this -12- LOGPlus! version 3.0 field. GENERAL INFORMATION WINDOW =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The General Information Window provides critical information on the QSO currently being entered. Data in this block can be modified by using the F3 General Information Update. DXCC STATISTICS WINDOW =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The DXCC Statistics Window provides up to date information on the current BAND/MODE breakdown of the currently entered DXCC country. EXAMPLE =-=-=-= You enter VK9NS in the CALL field. When the DXCC database is checked, data relating to VK9N/Norfolk Island is displayed on the screen. Each BAND and MODE is displayed in an easy to read format. "C" Confirmed. QSL card has been received. "W" Worked. This country has been worked previously. No QSL! "A" Approved. This country has already received ARRL approval. SELECTION MENU (BOTTOM OF SCREEN) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Once all the fields of the Data Entry Window and General Information Window have been updated correctly, it's time to do something with the data. At the bottom of the screen (after you've pressed ENTER and left the NOTE field), the following menu selections are available: elete: Clear all fields (except FREQ and MODE) and move cursor to CALL field. xit: Exit the module. Take NO action on currently entered data in Data Entry Window. req: Allows you to change both FREQ and MODE fields. odify: Modify the currently displayed QSO. Cursor will move to the CALL field.

rev DX: Scroll DXCC database. CAUTION, if you change the DXCC Country, from that point only, the call sign will be associated with that DXCC Country. Use CAUTION!. ext DX: Scroll DXCC database. CAUTION, if you change the DXCC Country, from that point only, the call sign -13- LOGPlus! version 3.0 will be associated with that DXCC Country. Use CAUTION!. SL: Save entry to selected QSL database. ave: Save QSO to LOGTEMP database and move cursor to CALL field. FUNCTION/CONTROL KEYS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SHIFT-F1 through SHIFT-F10 will allow you to have access to various database files. For information on using these features you'll need to read the section concerning the Browse/Modify feature for those particular awards. SHIFT-F1 Browse WAS Database (See F> Worked All States Award (WAS)) SHIFT-F2 Browse Oblast Database (See J> Worked All Russian Oblasts) SHIFT-F3 Browse IOTA Database (See I> Islands On The Air (IOTA)) SHIFT-F4 Browse WAZ Database (See E> Worked All Zones Award (WAZ)) SHIFT-F5 Browse County Database (See K> Worked All County Award) SHIFT-F6 Browse WPX Databases (See G> Worked All Prefixes Award (WPX)) SHIFT-F7 WPX Prefix LookUp (See G> Worked All Prefixes Award (WPX)) SHIFT-F8 Browse DXCC Database (See D> DX Century Club Award) SHIFT-F9 Browse VUCC Databases (See H> VHF/UHF Century Club (VUCC)) SHIFT-F10 Browse QSL Manager Database (See C> QSL Cards & QSL Managers) SHIFT-TAB Screen blanking F2 Quick Call Saver =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Quick Call Saver is an excellent tool for DXpeditions or those who are working the pile ups. Just enter the call and press F2. The QSO will be saved to the logbook and your DXCC database will be automatically updated. F3 General Information Update =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= General Information is that data which is displayed in the lower left hand corner of the screen. This is usually used when updating IOTA, STATE, GRID and other minor information which you'd like to maintain for later referencing. F4 Quick Call Checker =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Quick Call Checker allows you to quickly check your logbook for previous contacts. Let's say you're scanning the band and hear VK9WW working the pile up. You can't remember if you've ever worked VK9WW or VK9W as a new country. By entering the call VK9WW in the call field and pressing F4, LOGPlus! will check your logbook for any previous QSOs, search your DXCC database for VK9W and update the screen accordingly. This is the quick way to check on previously -14- LOGPlus! version 3.0 worked QSOs/DXCC. To delete unwanted data which is in the CALL field, press BACKSPACE or CTRL-BACKSPACE. F5 Browse LOGTEMP File =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Browsing the LOGTEMP file will allow you to make modifications and delete unwanted QSOs. This feature take the place of 3 previous function keys. F6 Partial Call Search =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Search database and display ALL call signs which contain entered data. Enter any call or partial call in the call sign field then press F6. All calls which contain a partial match will be displayed. F7 Display Previous QSOs (w/PacketCluster only) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Display previous QSOs when PacketCluster is in use. ALT_A Sunrise/Set Browse =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Display Sunrise and Sunset browse window. This feature allows you to display countries which fall with either your grayline. You can select all, sunrise only or sunset only. ALT_B Buffer Scroll (w/PacketCluster only) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Pop up windows allowing to scroll up to 6,000 characters of incoming Dumb Terminal program. ALT_H Help! =-=-=-=-=-= Quick look at programmed function keys. ALT_J Jump to Spot =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Jump to Spot works in conjunction with the PacketCluster interface and the radio interface. When a DX Spot is reported on the Packet- Cluster, the frequency is stored in a variable until used. If you decide you'd like to QSY the radio to that frequency to work the DX, press ALT_J and your radio will shift. Note the mode will not change. ALT_K Radio On/Off =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This is a toggle switch which will turn the radio's interface on or off. Each time this is pressed, the frequency and mode are updated. Please note that each time the radio functions are changed ( freq, mode or vfo ), it is automatically updated on the screen. You don't -15- LOGPlus! version 3.0 need to use this toggle. Use it only to disable or enable the interface. ALT_M Temperature/Mileage =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Temperature/Mileage conversion is a quick display which will allow you to either either fahrenhiet or celcius and obtain the conversion. Mileage, either in miles or kilometers can also be obtained. ALT_N CallSign Notebook =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The CallSign Notebook provides an excellent location to keep extensive notes on the call entered. Once the call is entered in the CALL field, the program will automatically search the \NOTES directory for any .LP (note) which matches the call. If found, you will see <<< Note found!! flashing on the screen. You can bring up that note by pressing ALT_N. I have used this field for copying CW exchanges and keeping general comments on a particular station. You can delete any entry made by using the F2=Delete data key. ALT_Q QRP Logging =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The QRP Logging feature is an easy way to keep track of QSOs you work when operating QRP. When turned ON, the upper left portion of the screen will display . When this is displayed, all log entries will have the QRP field updated. This information is critical to the DXCC updating. Note, entries made will highlight in GREEN in the display screen. ALT_R Jump Back (Return) From Spot =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Return radio to previous frequency before ALT_J Jump to Spot. ALT_Y YL Logging =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The YL Logging feature is an easy way to keep track of QSOs with YL stations. When turned ON, the upper left portion of the screen will display . When this is displayed, all log entries will have the YL field updated. This information is critical to the DXCC updating. Note, entries made will highlight in YELLOW in the display screen. ALT_Z WAZ Quick Display =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= See WAZ Section for description. PacketCluster ALT Keys =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The keys listed below are explained in detail under the Dumb -16- LOGPlus! version 3.0 Terminal Program (DTP), PacketCluster section. H> Print Chronological Logbook =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Chronological prints a partial log from date to date. Starting date: Default today's date. Enter the date you wish to start the print out at. If that date is not found, the next closest date will be the starting point. Ending date: Default today's date. Enter the date you wish to end the print out at. If that date is not found, -18- LOGPlus! version 3.0 the next closest dates will be the ending point. I> Band & Mode Statistics =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Band & Mode Statistics provides a complete band and mode break- down with an accurate percentage and count. This module can be used to judge your activity for years! Each time the module is updated, information is saved to the BANDCNT file for future reference. If you wish to display information which you ran 3 years ago, press the ENTER key until the information is displayed. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- CW and SSB totals will provide an accurate accounting of the number of contacts worked. The RTY combines RTY, PKT, ASC, FEC, GTR, PTR and AMT contacts into one. The total number of contacts listed on the bottom right may not reflect the exact number of contacts if your logbook uses anything other than the modes mentioned above. J> Update QSL Manager in Logbook =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This is a quick and easy way to automatically update the QSL Manager field in the logbook. Information is extracted from the QSL Manager databases and updated. K> Contest Conversions (K1EA/N6TR/WF1B) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- A> CT by K1EA - Version 8 and 9 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= VERY IMPORTANT!: You must specify the PATH location for the .BIN and B2R8.EXE or B2R9.EXE files under the program default parameters. (i.e. C:\CT\ ). This is menu driven conversion program which provides ease of operation. Move the highlight bar down to the specific contest or press the letter displayed to the left. (i.e. A B C etc..). Once the contest has been selected, an additional window called FILES will pop up. Move the highlight bar down to the .BIN file you wish to convert, then press . Next the program will load either the file B2R8.EXE or B2R9.EXE file into memory and convert the .BIN file specified. Upon completion, you'll be prompted to enter the contest name. The contest name is placed in the NAME FIELD of the log. If you don't wish this to occur, press without entering any data. If you'd like to display the contest name enter the year followed by an abbreviation. (i.e. 92-CQWW, 92-ARRL, 92-WPX etc). -19- LOGPlus! version 3.0 NOTE: When logging, the program will automatically fill in the name field if the name field was filled in during a previous QSO. This will NOT occur if the name field starts with a numeric. When the updating has completed, a browse window will be displayed showing you the converted data. If everything looks correct, press to save; otherwise, press SHIFT-F10 to discard. NOTE: This program has been extensively tested. If your data does note come out correctly, it's possible that K1EA has again changed the B2R conversion program. Please advise me if this occurs. NOTE: As of this writing, v9.x has numerous difficulties and may not convert properly. This has been reported to K1EA. The problem lies in CT not LOGPlus!. B> N6TR v3.x =-=-=-=-=-=-= The N6TR to LOGPlus! conversion program is designed to extract STANDARD logging information (i.e. DATE/TIME/CALL/FREQ/MODE/ SENT/RCVD). STATE and NAME information will be extracted for specified contests. The following is a list of contests which will extract ONLY standard logging information. Menu selection "A> Standard Conversion" MUST be used: All Asian CQ WPX CQ M Helvetia IOTA IARU JA Intl DX KCJ Scandinavian VK ZL WAE Cal QSO Party ( NON-CALIFORNIA STATIONS ) General QSO HA DX OK DX SP DX YO DX Region One Field Day The following contests will convert standard fields as well as the STATE field. Menu selection " B> Standard & State" MUST be used. -20- LOGPlus! version 3.0 ARRL 10 ARRL 160 CQ 160 Cal QSO Party ( CALIFORNIA STATIONS ONLY ) PACC The following contest will convert standard fields as well as providing an option of placing the QTH field in the NOTE field. Menu selection " C> County Hunter " MUST be used. County Hunter The following contests will convert standard fields as well as placing the NAME received in the NAME field and the QTH received in the STATE field. Menu selection " D> No. American QSO Party" MUST be used. No. American QSO Party C> WF1B v2.x =-=-=-=-=-=-=- As soon as this menu is selected, you'll be dumped directly into the DOS Shell. The following steps must be followed exactly!: 1. Path over to the directory containing your WF1B files. 2. Type CONVERT 3. Select Logbook Format (option 6 under v2). 4. Select the .BIN file you'd like converted. 5. Press to Quit 6. During the conversion a .TXT file was created. You'll need to copy this file over to the \PLUSV3\ directory and rename the file WF1B.TXT. (i.e. COPY 92CQWW.TXT \PLUSV2\WF1B.TXT ) 7. Type EXIT This will return you to LOGPlus! The program will follow the same steps as the CT by K1EA program from the contest name on. Please see that section for additional information. L> Logbook Refresh =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Logbook Refresh was added to assist users when inputting data from other database sources, (i.e. conversion programs, contest programs, DBase etc..). It's major purpose in life is to insure your DXCC -21- LOGPlus! version 3.0 field in the logbook contains "NO BLANKS", your band and mode information conforms to the standards employed in LOGPlus! and tags all your DELETED QSOs so credit can not be given to those countries which do not meet the specific criteria for and award. It is recommend this feature be run once every few months. M> Indexing =-=-=-=-=-=- Recreate required database index files. This is only required if problems are encountered locating data. B> Satellite Management =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Only very minor differences distinguish the Real-Time/Off Air logging modules apart for the Satellite Logging. Instead of duplicating effort, only those differences will be mentioned. It should be noted that the Satellite and standard log files are separate and can not be intermingled. PacketCluster monitoring is NOT available while in the Satellite logging module. DATA ENTRY WINDOW =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= When the Satellite logging modules are loaded, the cursor will always be in the DATE field first. Because Satellite DXCC is general in nature, band and mode DXCC checking is not required. When entering data, you'll notice the cursor will always go to the QSL field (Q), after the STATE field. Like the standard logging method, it's recommended that this field only be used when entering OLD data. DXCC STATISTICS WINDOW =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Four different fields are displayed here. DXCC Status: This will display the current status of the DXCC Country being displayed. Worked: Country worked but no QSL card received. Confirmed: QSL card received. Approved: ARRL approved credit received. Worked: Worked is a combination of Pending and Confirmed. Pending: Those counties in which no QSL card has been received. Confirmed: Those countries in which a QSL card has been received. -22- LOGPlus! version 3.0 C> QSL Card & QSL Managers =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The chore of handling QSL cards can be time consuming when doing things manually. Computer logging provides us with a quick and effective way to get the job done quickly and efficiently without the hassle of paper logs. This module is intended to assist you in your QSL chores as well as provide an interface to the QSL Managers database file. A> QSL Card Updating =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The QSL Card Updating is an intricate part of the overall success of LOGPlus!. The QSL field in the log must be maintained for the program to accurately update the DXCC, WAS, WAZ, WPX and IOTA modules. If you fail to maintain the QSL field, LOGPlus! will never provide accurate information. THE THREE QSL DATABASE FILES =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Three QSL database files have been provided to allow you flexibility in the way cards are handled. Some of us send cards to various clubs or individuals. If we could provide a method of sorting out those cards to different database files and print them when we're ready to mail them off, our shacks would be less crowded. DIRECT: This file is used to hold cards which you plan to send directly to the DX station via U.S. Mail. BUREAU: This file is used to hold cards which you plan to send to the ARRL outgoing bureau for processing. OTHER: This file is used to hold cards which are going to a particular QSL Manager (i.e. WF5E, W3HNK etc. ). how it works =-=-=-=-=-=- We have just finished working VK9NS Jim on Norfolk Island and wish to send him a card. Here's how we can save the entry to one of the database files for printing at a later date. NOTE: The QSL and QSLDate have been left off of this display because of space restrictions. NOTE: All QRP entries will be highted YELLOW on BLACK. Direct: 22 Bureau: 123 Other: 5 Enter CallSign: VK9NS -23- LOGPlus! version 3.0 Record Date Time Freq Mde Snd Rcv St Grid IOTA Name ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1023 10/10/92 00:23 14.232 SSB 53 59 Jim (A)ck, (B)ureau, (D)irect, (O)ther, (R)eset, (S)kip, (Q)uit: (A)ck: ACKNOWLEDGE. This menu selection is only used to mark the QSL field with an "X" if the QSL field was previously marked with "B", "D", "O" or "S". (B)ureau: BUREAU DATABASE SELECTED. (D)irect: DIRECT DATABASE SELECTED. (O)ther: OTHER DATABASE SELECTED. When one of the three menu selection are chose, you will be required to answer a few additional questions to make sure the contact is properly tagged. Acknowledge QSL as received ('X' in QSL field) (y/n) ? YES: Used only if you have received the QSL card from the DX Station. For example, when Jim receives your QSL card, he'll type in your call, select the appropriate database then 9 times out of 10 answer YES to this question. He has received your card and is sending one back. NO: This is the most common one used, at least in our example. The QSL field in the log will be affixed with "B" if you selected BUREAU, "D" if you selected DIRECT, or "O" if you selected OTHER. Should card(s) say PSE, otherwise TNX (y/n) ? YES: If you want the card to tell the DX station you'd like his card then answer YES. The word PSE will be affixed to most cards. NO: If you're returning the card, like in Jim's case, you would answer NO. The word TNX will be affixed to most cards. QSL all QSOs for this CALL (y/n) ? This will only pop up on the screen if more than one entry -24- LOGPlus! version 3.0 for the call was found. It's quite common for DX stations to have 2 to 10 or more entries with your call, if you're active. YES: If you're a DX station it's best to knock off all the QSL cards for a particular station in one quick and easy stroke. Granted, you'll possibly receive letters from some individuals who are dead set on receiving individual cards for each band and mode, but I can't see why that's necessary. 99.9% of the time I answer YES to this. Also, if you have 6 QSOs with a station and 5 have already been QSL'd, you can answer YES but only the QSO which has not been QSL'd will be processed. NO: If you don't want the station to receive one of the contacts he had, you can answer NO here. The next question will pop up on the screen. Enter record number(s) separated by '/': This is where you can QSL only specific cards for a station. Let's say that when we brought up VK9NS on our screen we found 6 QSOs listed. None have been QSL'd before. I want to only QSL two of the six. On this line I would enter the record number for each separated by a /. 1023/4322 LOGPlus! will only update those records and nothing else. (R)eset: Reset is used when you wish to clear the QSL field and re-send a QSL card. Let's say I received a card from W6TWN back on 10/10/90 for my 1989 DXPedition to Midway and submitted a card shortly after I received his. I have proof I sent him a card because the QSL field is marked with "X" and the QSL Date tells me the exact date the card was processed. However, and I'm guilty of this too, W6TWN sends me a card on 10/10/92 stating that he has lost the card and needs another. At this point, you would enter W6TWN as the call and press "R" from the menu. You'll have an option to reset ALL the QSOs or just on in particular. The format listed above for entering record numbers applies here also. A precaution. When you select this option, ALL three of the database files will be purged of that call. This insures duplications are removed before printing. -25- LOGPlus! version 3.0 (S)kip: This clears the screen and takes no action on the call displayed. (Q)uit: Exit the module. Take no action on the call displayed. FUNCTION KEYS =-=-=-=-=-=-= Five function keys have been programmed to assist you in data processing. F2=Redisplay: Redisplay data for the previously entered call F3=DIRECT Browse: Pop up window which will allow you to quickly view the DIRECT database. Delete functions are available. This will only pop up if data is found in the file. F4=BUREAU Browse: Pop up window which will allow you to quickly view the BUREAU database. Delete functions are available. This will only pop up if data is found in the file. F5=OTHER Browse: Pop up window which will allow you to quickly view the OTHER database. Delete functions are available. This will only pop up if data is found in the file. F6=Add Record: Add record to regular log. Record will be appended to the end of file. Once the record has been added, you can update it. B> Direct - Printing/Browse =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The information described here is the same for C> Bureau - Printing/ Browse and D> Other - Printing/Browse. The only difference will be the database file selected. A> Browse/Modify =-=--=-=-=-=-=-=- See Getting Around the Browse/Modify. The following functions are provided in this module: F2=Delete Entry: This will delete the highlighted record. F3=Call Search: This will allow you to quickly search and display any given call. Enter the call you wish to locate. If found, the record will be highlighted. If not found, you'll be informed. -26- LOGPlus! version 3.0 Enter=Editor: The editor will allow you to quickly modify ALL data fields associated with the record currently highlighted. B> Update QSLMgrs Field =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Update QSLMgrs field provides you with a quick and easy way to automatically update the QSL Manager field for later printing on QSL labels. When this option is selected, the QMgr databases are checked for any call which matches the calls in the selected database. If found, the QMgr field will be updated with that manager's call. If nothing was found, the QMgr field will be updated with either "DIRECT", "BUREAU" or "OTHER" depending on the database selected. After you've run this feature, you can manually change any entry by using the browse/modify option. Checking: VK0GC QSLMgr field set to: VK9NS C> QSL Label Printing =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Four types of labels are used in LOGPlus!. All of these label formats can be purchased from local sources in large bulk if needed. Over the years, I have used both TAYCO and GLOBAL Computer Supplies and found their prices to be reasonable. If you find additional sources, please let me know. I'll include the information for others to benefit from. I do not endorse either of the companies I mentioned above. After selecting the label you wish to use, you will be prompted with the following. This is standard for each label: Print QSL label(s) for specific DX Country (y/n) ? Print QSL cards for a specific DX Country. When prompted, enter the DXCC prefix you wish to print (see Appendix A), only those cards will be printed. Once printing is done, you'll have the opportunity to delete only those cards. Sort cards in DXCC/Alphanumeric order (y/n) ? Sort cards in DXCC order will sort the cards by country, followed by call order. This is an excellent way of printing cards which are being submitted to the bureaus. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Having been on 19 DXPeditions over the years, I receive a lot -27- LOGPlus! version 3.0 of QSL cards. A couple of years back, VK9NS and I talked about this and decided we'd add the SORT as an option. The basic reason for this was that when you receive HUNDREDS of cards at a time, it's best to work the stack, FIRST IN FIRST OUT!. By SORTING, you must continuously search for the card and envelope for a match up. When you don't SORT, QSLing become MUCH MUCH easier. test label. to exit When ENTER is pressed, ONE test label will be printed to make sure everything is lined up. To compensate for this, I've added the ability to add an additional line feed. D> Delete ALL Records =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Delete ALL Records will purge ALL records for the selected -31- LOGPlus! version 3.0 database file. Use caution here! If you delete all the data and find you really needed it, you'll need to go back into the QSL Card Updating, RESET all calls individually and re-QSL! E> Pending - Printing/Browse =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Over the years we lose track of who we've sent cards to. Instead of searching each entry in the log and spending countless hours, we can quickly and easily obtain the information we need here. A> QSL Pending Update =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The QSL Pending Update will search your log for any QSO in which the QSL field is marked with either a "B", "D", "O" or "S". These records are copied to the PENDING.DBF file which can be maintained or updated at anytime. During the update process the screen will display the number of QSOs it has copied over. Direct: 32 Bureau: 123 Other: 5 B> QSL Pending Browse/Modify =-===-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- See Getting Around the Browse/Modify. C> QSL Pending Printing =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The QSL Pending Printing will print out a listing of ALL QSOs which are in the database. D> Delete ALL Records =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Delete ALL Records will remove all entries from the database. It's recommended you use this prior to doing a QSL Pending Update. This will insure no duplications are entered. F> SWL - Printing/Browse =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Menu options B>, C> and D> are identical to those listed under the Direct - Printing/Browse. Please refer to that section for additional information. A> SWL Card Entry =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Most of us these days receive hundreds of SWL cards which in the spirit of ham radio, need responding to. Being a DX station for the past 10 years, I've received more than my fair share! Well folks here is the module to help us along. By entering the required data in the blocks, the SWL cards are appended to the SWL.DBF file for printing. how it works =-=-=-=-=-=- Boris/UA1-923-223-2 sends you a card for a contact you made with KW7Y on 01/05/85 on 7MHz. I would enter the contact as follows: SWL heard you work: KW7Y Once you've entered the call and pressed ENTER, a pop up screen will appear with all contacts with KW7Y. Move the highlight bar down to the appropriate QSOs, press ENTER then ESC to exit the module. All the fields will be filled in automatically. At this point, enter the SWL station callsign and save the data. G> QSL Manager Database =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The QSL Manager Database is a powerful utility which will allow you -33- LOGPlus! version 3.0 to maintain information relating to past, current and future QSL Managers. The QSL Manager system utilizes two databases. QMGR.DBF which contains a listing of all DX Stations their managers and the year active. The second database called QLABELS.DBF contains only the address of those managers you wish to maintain. H> Yearly QSO/QSL Statistics =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Yearly QSO/QSL Statistics provides a complete breakdown of the number of contacts, QSLs sent and those which are pending via DIRECT or BUREAU during the years 1960 to 1999. QSLs Pending Year Contacts Sent Direct/Bureau 1980 1981 1982 14323 5322 1 / 23 1983 3541 1352 14 / 1984 2102 1322 9 / 22 etc... I> Index QSL Card Databases =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Index QSL Card Databases will only reindex those databases which effect QSLing. Because of the amount of time required to reindex the QSL Manager databases, I've opted to split the indexing chores between two menu options to speed execution. J> Index QSL Manager Databases =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Index QSL Manager Databases will only reindex those databases which effect the QSL Manager files. D> DX Century Club Award =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The DX Century Club Award module is possibly the most important part of LOGPlus!. This module encompasses a great deal of data which must be read thoroughly to grasp the power it offers. A> Auto Update (log) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This section will also describe information relating to menu option B> Auto Update (sat). The only difference between the two is the database file selected. The Auto Update feature provides a completely automated way of keeping track of your DXCC award. Information is extracted from your log and cross checked with three database files to insure the correct DXCC country is credited each time. Unfortunately like all good -34- LOGPlus! version 3.0 plans, nothing is absolute. CALL: The most important field! This determines the country which will receive credit. Make sure you use option I> Unique Country/Prefix Update or J> CallSign to Prefix Update if the call can not be cross referenced. DXCC: Updated by extracting information from the CALL field. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- If the DXCC field displays incorrect information, it may be necessary to manually update the field. For instance, let's say UA1OIL, which in previous years was on Franz Josef Land, recently, changed from UA1O to 4K2 then to R1/FJ. During the course of the update, you notice UA1OIL was only credited as UA instead of R1/FJ. You'll need to do one of two things: 1. Conduct a manual update of the DXCC field for UA1OIL. This would require you to manually update this field each time you came across UA1OIL. 2. Select option J> CallSign to Country Mapping and update the information ONCE. 3. The DXCC field in the log is very important as is the call field. Call signs are becoming more and more "INTERESTING" these days which makes updating sometimes difficult. For instance, let's take the call group VP8. 99.9% of the time, the DX station will never sign /O, /F, /S etc... they will usually give their call followed by South Shetland Islands. In all my years, I have rarely heard the portable given. When you encounter a call like this (3D2, SV, VP8 etc.. are some that also fall into this category), you need to use option J> CallSign to Country Mapping. FREQ: Used to determine band credit. MODE: Used to determine mode credit. QSL: Used to determine DXCC status. This field is a major key in the way information is processed. Make sure you keep this field updated. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- If Deleted Countries are encountered the program will make every effort to assign the correct DXCC prefix to that country. It is extremely important you read K> Prefix to Country Mapping for more information on how deleted countries are processed. -35- LOGPlus! version 3.0 C> Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= See Getting Around the Browse/Modify for general information. The following function keys are provided: F2=Delete Data: This will delete ONLY the modifiable fields. DXCC, Country Name, Lat/Long and ZONE information will not be deleted. F3=Prefix Search: Enter the STANDARD DXCC prefix associated with the country. STANDARD in this case means those commonly assigned to the country by the ARRL. (i.e. KH2 not WH2, NH2 etc..) You can scroll through the DXCC database to get a basic understanding of what these prefixes are. F4=Statistics: When selected, an additional browse/modify screen will appear listing all the common bands for a particular mode. When first selected, the MIXED mode will be displayed. The following function keys are provided: Enter=Editor: The editor will allow you to quickly modify ALL data fields except those which are locked and can not be changed. Locked fields, if changed, will cause serious problems with DXCC totals. F8=All Countries: Display all active and deleted countries. F9=Active Countries: Display only active countries. F10=Deleted Countries: Display only deleted countries. D> Single Band Awards =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Single Band Awards updates and maintains individuals awards for both band and modes. A> Auto Update =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= One of the excellent features of LOGPlus! is the ability to maintain your DXCC records to meet your needs. The auto update, will automatically cross-reference your LOGBOOK and DXCC databases and create a databases of contacts which have been confirmed but not submitted yet to the ARRL. Unlike LOGPlus! v2, this update automatically creates single band award information for all modes and bands including YL, QRP and SAT. -36- LOGPlus! version 3.0 B> Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- When first selected, only those records associated with the General Mixed Award are displayed. Use F5 to F9 to change modes and bands. C> Statistics =-=-=-=-=-=-=- Display number of QSOs pending for each band and mode. These are QSOs pending DXCC submission. D> Printing =-=-=-=-=-=-= The printing option is menu driven for quick selection. Each band is broken down individually to reduce paper waste. Once you've selected the band or award you wish to print, you'll be prompted to select the mode you wish to print. E> Indexing =-=-=-=-=-=- Recreate DX.NSX file. This is only required if difficulties occur locating data. E> Status Update =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Status Update provides a quick and easy way to update any of the DXCC band and mode columns. how it works =-=-=-=-=-=- Select the mode or band you wish to update. Remember, this will do a GLOBAL change in the DXCC database. Use caution! A> Confirmed to Submitted =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Change the band/mode from 'C' to 'S' for all records in selected file. This is usually done after the cards have been sent to the ARRL. These cards have not been returned. B> Submitted to Approved =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Change the band/mode from 'S' to 'A' for all records in selected file. This is usually done after the ARRL has accepted all cards submitted. If for some reason a particular card was not accepted, use the Browse/Modify and change the field accordingly. F> Band & Mode Country Statistics -37- LOGPlus! version 3.0 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Band & Mode Country Statistics is a unique display which provides you information concerning your DXCC database. In addition to display Worked/Confirmed/Submitted information for each band and mode, the program also provides you a total band QSO total. Numbers located within parens are DELETED countries. G> Band/Mode Statistics =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Band/Mode Statistics provides a COMPLETE breakdown for each band and mode. On color monitors, each status is displayed in different colors to allow for quick look up. The following is a breakdown of CW 1.8MHz: 1.8 ****** ARL 1 C SUB CFM 1 W PND 3 WKD 5 ARL: Band field marked with "A" SUB: Band field marked with "S" CFM: Band field marked with "C" PND: Band field marked with "W" WKD: Total of all fields. H> DX Alert =-=-=-=-=-=- The DX Alert take the hassle out of keeping track of upcoming DXPedition. This system is a powerful feature which will alert you at program execution if any DXPeditions are scheduled for that day. Information can be easily shared by other LOGPlus! users quickly and easily by the use of ASCII text files which can be either uploaded or downloaded. If updated on a regular basis, this program alone can provide up to the minute information on upcoming DXPeditions and assist in increasing your DXCC country count. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- As mentioned above, you can be alerted of daily DX activity on program execution only if you turn on this feature under the Program Default Parameters. -38- LOGPlus! version 3.0 A> DX Alert DXPedition Update =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The DX Alert DXPedition Update allows you the flexibility of adding or looking up DX information quickly. how it works =-=-=-=-=-=- Enter the call sign of the station you wish to add. If the station was previously entered, the program will display the data and ask you if it's correct. If this is a new entry you'll be prompted with the following entry screen: DXPedition beginning date: Enter the DATE the DXPedition is scheduled to commence. This date is very important to the DX Alert check at execution. DXPedition ending date: Enter the DATE the DXPedition is scheduled to end. This date along with the beginning date will determine if the entry will be deleted under option H> Delete DX Alert. DXPedition common freq: Enter the frequency the DXPedition is most commonly heard to work. With most DXPeditions hopping from one band to the next, this information is basically arbitrary. DXPedition common mode: Enter the mode the DXPedition works most. Some DXPeditions may only work RTY. DXPedition general times: Enter the start and stop times the station is generally heard at. DXPedition information: Any comments you wish to make. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- You are NOT restricted to one entry per DXPedition. If you know the station operates 15 Meters from 0100-0300 then 20 Meters from 0300-0500, make two entries. There are no restrictions to the number of times you can enter the same station. B> DX Alert Activity Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= VERY IMPORTANT!!!! -39- LOGPlus! version 3.0 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The information described here will basically echo those in the Todays, Weekly and Monthly Browse/Modify modules. The only difference will be in the way the F6/F7 and F8 keys are utilized. The Browse/Modify will allow you to scroll through your data quickly, utilizing the arrow keys. A BLACK highlight bar will indicate the record you're currently on. Function keys are provided to allow quick data searches as well as record editing. F2=Delete: This will delete the highlighted record. F3=Call Search: This will allow you to quickly search and display any given call. Enter the call you wish to locate. If found, the record will be highlighted. If not found, you'll be informed. F4=Date Search: This will allow you to quickly search and display any given date. Enter the date you wish to locate. If found, the record will be highlighted. If not found, you'll be informed. F5=Append Record: This will allow you to add a new record to the database. F10=Print Log: Print the log in the order currently displayed. If you conduct a Call Search, the file will be in alphanumeric order. If a Date Search was displayed, records will be printed in date order. Enter=Editor: The editor will allow you to quickly modify ALL data fields associated with the record currently highlighted. C> Todays DX Activity Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- See B> above for information. D> Weekly DX Activity Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- See B> above for information. The following additional function keys are available under this option. F6=Prev Week: Display only those records which fall under the previous calendar week. -40- LOGPlus! version 3.0 F7=Next Week: Display only those records which fall under the next calendar week. F8=Current Week: Display only the current week. E> Monthly DX Activity Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= See B> above for information. The following additional function keys are available under this option. F6=Prev Month: Display only those records which fall under the previous calendar month. F7=Next Month: Display only those records which fall under the next calendar month. F8=Current Month: Display only the current month. F> Upload DX Alert Information =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This feature allows you to UPLOAD information from other users to your DXINFO database. The file DXALERT.TXT must be found in the \PLUSV3 directory. NOTE: Previous version of LOGPlus! (prior to v3) CAN NOT be uploaded. The file structure is different. Duplicate files will require manual deletion. G> Download DX Alert Information =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This feature allows you to DOWNLOAD information from the DXINFO database to a delimited ASCII file for transmission to other users. The file DXALERT.TXT will contain a complete listing of ALL records contained in the DXINFO database. H> Delete OUTDATED Information =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This feature allows you to delete OUTDATED information from the DXINFO database. OUTDATED information are those records which the beginning date and the ending date are EARLIER than the system date. Once deleted, the DXINFO database file is automatically reindexed. I> DX Alert File Indexing =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- At times it may become necessary to recreate index files because of corrupt data. If you're having difficulties with searching and updating, it's not a bad idea to run this feature. I> Country List Update -41- LOGPlus! version 3.0 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Country List Update along with Prefix to Country Mapping and CallSign to Country Mapping are critical areas which are extremely delicate and require alot of thought. These three menu selections provide the interface necessary to add or delete DXCC Countries from DXCC credit. Every attempt will be made to give full details on the process needed to add or delete a country. Please read this completely before making any attempts. First let me explain what I mean by "delete". Actually, delete in this instance means to remove the country from any further credit, not complete removal. Currently the DXCC database contains 385 countries. These are countries which are both active and no longer creditable. With the ever changing climate in todays world, countries seem to be popping up left and right and at the same time others are disappearing. Because of this, it's necessary to develop a method in which you can easily and effectively make the necessary changes to your DXCC database without paying for upgrades. ADDING A NEW DXCC COUNTRY =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Adding a new DXCC Country involves two major steps. Each of these steps are critical to program performance and MUST be done with care. The following questions MUST be answered before any attempts are made to update your program. This information can be obtained from the ARRL, local PBBS or BBS systems. We'll first look at adding a new country then modifying an existing one. First we must obtain the necessary information. Here is a basic check list which will help: 1. What is the ITU PREFIX GROUP assigned? 2. What is the OFFICIAL (United Nations) name? 3. What is the EFFECTIVE DATE the country will be/was accepted for DXCC credit? 4. What PREFIXES are being effected by the change? 5. Does the country observe Daylight Savings Time? 6. What is the GMT OffSet for the country? Once these questions have been answered we can start to add the new country. Below is an example of adding Croatia/9A. -42- LOGPlus! version 3.0 DXCC: 9A Country: Croatia Effective Date: 06/26/91 Deletion Date: Latitude: 28.0 << Do not leave default at 0.0 Longitude: 32.0 << Do not leave default at 0.0 CQ Zone: 15 ITU Zone: 28 Continent: Eu GMT OffSet: 2 Day Light Savings: N GMT OffSet: Hours ahead or behind GMT. This information can be obtained from any good atlas. Day Light Savings: Enter Y only if the country observes DLS. The only purpose for this entry is to make sure LOCAL TIME is displayed correctly in the Realtime/OffAir modules. Once you're satisfied your NEW COUNTRY data is correct, save the entry to the DXCC database. MODIFYING AN EXISTING DXCC COUNTRY =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Modifying an existing DXCC Country is very easy and straight forward. One precaution, it's highly recommended that once you've set the DXCC prefix and made modification to K> Prefix to Country Mapping, use this prefix continuously or until you're confortable with making changes. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO ANY OF THE CURRENT DXCC COUNTRIES ASSIGNED. SOME MAY BE HARD CODED INTO OTHER PORTIONS OF THE PROGRAM. CHANGING THE DELETED COUNTRY STATUS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= At times it may become necessary to modify the deletion date of any existing country. This usually happens when the country no longer counts for DXCC credit. This is very easy and straight forward but a few precautions. After you've made the changes under this option, make sure you also make the changes under option K> Prefix to Country Mapping. -43- LOGPlus! version 3.0 J> Callsign to Country Mapping =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= During logging, you may find an occassional callsign which could not be properly associated with a country. This is usually the case with 3D2, VK9, 3Y, JD callsigns. The Callsign to Country Mapping allows you the facilities to associate the callsign with the country and zone if needed. K> Prefix to Country Mapping =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Caution should be the first order of busy when using the feature. Place the wrong information in the PRFX.DBF file can result in major problems with your DXCC databases. This feature should only be used when adding a new country or itu group. L> Update Beam Heading & Sunsets =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Recreate Beam Headings and updates the Sunrise/Sunset information for each DXCC country. Make sure you've placed your latitude and longitude in the default options before running this feature. Otherwise, your information will be incorrect. M> SunRise & SunSet Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This feature allows you to add or subtract cities from the SUNCITY as well as update. N> Clean Up DXCC/LOGBOOK databases =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Periodically you may want to delete the band information from your DXCC and LOGBOOK and start over from scratch. This is particular useful when first converting from v2 to v3. Run this program, then do a DXCC Auto Update to bring all your records in line with version 3.0. O> Printing =-=-=-=-=-=- Basic printing options. P> Indexing =-=-=-=-=-=- Recreate indices associated with your DXCC database and PREFIXES/ PRFX files. E> Worked All Zones Award (WAZ) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Worked All Zones Award program is supported by CQ Magazine. This module will assist in tracking the various facits of the WAZ award and assist in recordkeeping tasks. -44- LOGPlus! version 3.0 Bands & Modes Tracked =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= General Mixed, CW, PHONE and RTTY 160, 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 10, 6, 2 and Satellite. Tracking of Mixed, CW, PHONE and RTTY for each band done automatically. Required Files =-=-=-=--=-=-= Two files are required to track the WAZ award program. If either of these files are missing, NONE of the WAZ features described herein will function. WAZ.DBF and WAZ.NSX (the NSX file is created automatically during the indexing process). A> Auto Update (log) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This module is the heart of the WAZ award system. It's major purpose is to reduce the time and effort required to manually update and track your WAZ award. The auto update will: 1> Check the ZONE field in your logbook for any blanks. If found, the appropriate ZONE information will be updated. 2> Cross reference LOGBOOK entries with those in the WAZ databases and update appropriately. During the update, each ZONE is checked individually and the number of QSOs per ZONE is displayed alongside the ZONE. This module is approximately 50% faster then earlier versions of LOGPlus!. B> Auto Update (sat) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= See A> Auto Update (log) for information relating to the Auto Update (sat). The only difference between the two is the databases used, SATELLITE or LOGBOOK. C> Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= See Getting Around the Browse/Modify. When first selected, only those records associated with the General Mixed Award are displayed. Use F5 to F9 to change modes and bands. F3=Zone Search - Allows you to quickly move between zones. Zones 1 thru 9 must be preceeded by a "0". -45- LOGPlus! version 3.0 F9=Change Bands - Allows you to select any of the other bands including Satellite and General. D> Quick Look Statistics =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This module provides you with a graphical display by mode, of the zones you have worked, confirmed or need. This feature can be activiated in the logging and dumb terminal modules by pressing SHIFT+F5. 1 2 3 4 1234567890123456789012345678901234567890 160 *****WWWWWWWW********......***...**..**. 80 ****************WW*****......***.*WWWWWW 40 ******...........*******WW.WWW..WWW***** etc.. * = Confirmed W = Worked . = Needed E> Band/Mode Statistics =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This module provides you with a complete breakdown of your current zone status by band and mode. It's major purpose is to reduce the time and effort required to manually update and track your WAS award. The auto update will: 1> Cross reference LOGBOOK entries with those in the WAS databases and update appropriately. During the update, each STATE is checked individually and the number of QSOs per STATE is displayed alongside the STATE. This module is approximately 50% faster then earlier versions of LOGPlus!. NOTE: LOGPlus! v2 checked for duplicate entries by call and assigned the state to these records. Because of problems encountered with this feature, it has been removed. B> Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= See Getting Around the Browse/Modify. When first selected, only those records associated with the General Mixed Award are displayed. Use F5 to F9 to change modes and bands. F3=State Search - Allows you to quickly move between states. F9=Change Bands - Allows you to select any of the other bands including Satellite and General. This module will assist in tracking the various facits of the VUCC award and assist in recordkeeping tasks. Contact the ARRL for additional information concerning the VUCC program. Bands & Modes Tracked =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= All bands from 6 meters to 24GHz. Required Files =-=-=-=--=-=-= Twenty Two files are required to track the VUCC award program. Two for each of the eleven VHF/UHF bands. Index files (.NSX) will be created automatically during the indexing process.) A> Auto Update =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Auto Update module will extract grid information from your logbook and update each of the VHF/UHF files accordingly. NOTE: During PacketCluster monitoring in the dumb terminal program, each spot reported for 2 and 6 meters will cause an immediate check of the VUCC50 and VUCC144 files to determine if you need the grid reported. However, for this feature to work properly, the first 4 characters of the spot comments field MUST contain the grid information. Example of a typical spot (shorten to fit on screen): DX de KD7P: 50323.2 NH2G OC26 1432Z When the program sees this entry, it will check and see if the check 2 meter grid switch under the dumb terminal Packet Alerts has been turned on. If it has, the VUCC50 database will be checked to determine if the grid has been worked previously. In the upper right hand corner of the screen, the grid and status will be displayed: OC26[C] >> grid has been confirmed OC26[W] >> grid has been worked no card OC26[N] >> grid not in database. It is very possible that erronuous data may be displayed. The program will make every -53- LOGPlus! version 3.0 effort to determine the correct info but this is not always the case. E> Indexing =-=-=-=-=-=- Recreate OBLAST.NSX file. This is only required if difficulties occur locating data. K> Worked All U.S. Counties =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Worked All U.S. Counties Award system is provided, to ASSIST users in tracking the U.S.A. Counties Award. This program is not intended to replace the Record Book currently required by the Counties Award committee, but to provide document control. You are encouraged to write CQ Magazine (sponsors of the award), and obtain the rules and regulations as well as the Record Book. This feature will track the Mixed, Phone and CW awards. A> Auto Update =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Tracking this award is not easy. Alot of time and effort can go into maintaining the Record Book and ensuring the data is correct. LOGPlus! has taken the hassle out of maintaining the Record Book by providing a means in which data can be automatically extracted from your log. The NOTE field as mentioned previously, is extremely important to the Counties Auto Update feature. Data is entered in the NOTE field during -60- LOGPlus! version 3.0 QSO entry, which can be extracted during the update processes. The NOTE Field =-=-=-=-=-=-=- The County Hunters Award utilizes a County Reference Sheet (see COUNTY.DOC for listing), in providing the necessary interface for automatic update. The COUNTY.DOC file contains a list of all 3076 U.S.A. Counties, their respective states and record number. The record number is the KEY to the automatic updating. EXAMPLE: 1 Alabama Greene 255 Colorado Larimer W4XYZ reports to you his location is Tucker in Greene County Alabama during your QSO. After filling in all the standard log information (i.e. call, date, time, rst, name etc...) you're ready to enter the data in the note field. The characters { and } are unique characters which are utilized by the Counties Award program ONLY. Do not use either of these for the Generic Award program. The first character { is a delimiter which specifies the starting point of the Counties update. When this character is encountered by the update process, the data listed between the {} is extracted and cross referenced with the three COUNTIES file. The last character } is a delimiter which specifies the end of the Counties update. To log W4XYZ correctly, the note field would contain: {1Tucker} However, because the note field is used by the Generic Award program as well as standard information, the exact location of the Counties data is not critical. EXAMPLES OF A TYPICAL NOTE FIELD: !10232{1Tucker} !10232 could be data used by the Generic Award program to keep track of the 10x10 award. HVY QRM{1Tucker} or {1Tucker}HVY QRM HVY QRM is a reminder to you of heavy interference during the QSO and has no bearing on any award system. As you can see, the exact location is not critical. Another example would be that during mobile operations, W4XYZ reports he's in Larimer County Colorado between different cities. Because the exact city is not known, the information between the {} characters would be entered as: {255X} The 255 represents the record number and the X is used to -61- LOGPlus! version 3.0 inform the update that no city was specified. Make sure you use the X. If you don't the record will not be updated. The Update Process =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- You'll be asked if you wish to update the Counties data from the beginning of the log. If you press "Y" the record counter is reset to 1 and update will commence from record 1 of the log. This is only recommended if you've made a number of major changes or you're lazy like I am and don't wish to do all the updating manually! By press "N" the record counter is set to the last record updated and will commence from that record in the log. The next screen you'll see will show the update process. Processing: 1235 Remaining: 23232 Viewed: 2 Mix Updated: 2 Phone Updated: 1 CW Updated: 1 Processing: Current record being checked in the log. Remaining: Number of log records still pending. Viewed: Number of records in the log found to contain the correct information (i.e. {1Tucker} etc..) Updated: Number of records actually updated in one of the COUNTY files. This number may be lower than the viewed number. The viewed number takes into account ALL records viewed. Update only counts those records that are actually changed. B> Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- When first selected, only those records associated with the mixed aAward are displayed. Use F5 to F9 to change mode and bands. C> Statistics =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Statistics provides a quick view of the current status of your Counties award. Data will be displayed in three blocks with four columns each. Here is an example of one block. State Counties Wkd Apvd AL 67 10 9 AK 4 1 -62- LOGPlus! version 3.0 State: List the common two letter state abbreviation. Counties: Number of counties located with the state. Wkd: Number of counties worked in that state. Apvd: Number of counties approved by the awards committee. D> Printing =-=-=-=-=-=-= Printing features allows you to print your data by individual states. A pop up menu will allow you to specify the award status to print. Menu options are self explaintory. E> Indexing =-=-=-=-=-=- Recreate required database index files. This is only required if problems are encountered locating data. L> Generic Award System =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Generic Award System program is simple, but extremely powerful. This program will allow you to keep track of up to twenty (20) awards of your choosing. Seven data fields most commonly used to track awards are maintained. Call, Date, Time, Freq, Mode, Rcvd RST and Info/Note The log NOTE field is the key field used to maintain UNIQUE data associated with the award(s) you plan on tracking. When you first select the Generic Award System program, 21 menu selections are available to choose from. However, the first 20 will say "Generic Award Tracking System" which allows you the ability to "ROLL YOUR OWN". Whatever award(s) you'd like to track (within limitations, sorry!), can be tracked using one of these menu selections. how it works =-=-=-=-=-=- You wish to keep track of the Japanese JCC Award and the 10x10 Award Programs. If you tried to select A> thru T> the computer will beep then shoot you right back to the main menu. The reason for this is no parameters have been set for these fields. First, select option U> and bring up the award parameter screen. This screen will allow you to provide the program with UNIQUE parameters for the award you wish to track. Like many of the function in LOGPlus!, the Generic Award System -63- LOGPlus! version 3.0 utilizes a Browse/Modify screen which you should be very familiar with at this point. Modifying data is as simple as pressing ENTER to enter the EDITOR which will allow you to create the necessary variables. The first parameter is the name of the award, up to 30 characters can be used to specify the name. Enter: Japanese JCC Award Program The next parameter asks you to come up with a UNIQUE file name for the database file. Up to 8 characters can be specified. Enter: JAJCC The next parameter asks you to provide a Special Identifier character. This is where things could get a bit confusing. This Special Identifier, is used in the log NOTE field to act as a marker. When the Auto Update is used, the log NOTE field is checks against the Special Identifier. If a match is found, data is extracted and placed in the database file you specified. In this case JAJCC.DBF. An important note, you CAN NOT specify the same character for the different awards. The characters { and } have been reserved for the COUNTIES Award program and CAN NOT be used here, UNLESS you have no intentions of tracking COUNTIES. Enter: # The next parameter asks you to provide a set number of search characters the program will extract from the log NOTE field to distinguish the data you wish to track. Let say you're tracking the JCC and need the JCC number which in this case is 3 characters long. I would specify in this field a 3 and press . NEVER specify more then you need. The program has been written to extract from the log NOTE field the exact number of characters AFTER the UNIQUE search character and no more, no less. Enter: 3 The last parameter asks if you wish to delete the data from the log after the update has taken place. Okay, this is where the exception comes into into play I mentioned earlier! Let say you have the following entry in your log. Call Date Time Freq Mode Rcvd Name Note JA1ELY 11/10/91 10:45 14 CW 589 Toshi #283&26991 If you specified YES to this parameter, during the Auto Update, -64- LOGPlus! version 3.0 the program will look for and see the pound sign # when it came to this entry. The generic data necessary to track most awards would be copied over to the JAJCC file you specified earlier (Call, Date, Time, Freq, Mode, Rcvd). The next thing the program would extract is the next 3 characters (you specified this also) following the pound sign #, and place this data in the INFO field of the JAJCC file. Next, the pound sign followed by the next 3 characters (#283) would be deleted from the log NOTE field. As you can see, &26991 would now become the first 6 characters allowing us to do an Auto Update for the 10x10 Award we also wish to track. Remember, you must conduct the search for the first Special Identifier, in this case #, before you could update the 10x10 award. Call Date Time Freq Mode Rcvd Name Note JA1ELY 11/10/91 10:45 14 CW 589 Toshi &26991 IMPORTANT NOTE: The Auto Update ALWAYS starts it's search from the beginning of the log. If you DO NOT delete the data after it has been used, each time the update is run, the records will again be copied over to the database file causing duplication. As you can see, by answering YES to this parameter, additional awards can be tracked using the same entry and save duplication in entering data manually! If however, you answer NO to this field, the entry would not change and use of this entry for other awards would require manual intervention. You'd use this process for all five awards or any number you wish to track. Remember make sure you use UNIQUE file names and search characters for each award. The information described here effects ALL menu selections A> through T>. Once all the parameters have been set for the award(s) you wish to track, the next thing is to input data. When the menu is selected the above menu will pop up allowing you to do various functions. Remember that the generic system was not designed as a tracking program for all awards. No doubt some awards will be difficult to track; however, the system was designed to make life a bit easier. A> Auto Update =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Auto Update provides a quick method of automatically updating each of the 20 generic awards. As mentioned above, the Special Identifier is the key to the auto update. Make sure you follow the instructions listed in "how it works". Once these parameters have been set properly, everything is strictly automatic from this point. B> Browse/Modify =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -65- LOGPlus! version 3.0 See Getting Around the Browse/Modify. When first selected, only those records associated with the General Mixed Award are displayed. Use F5 to F9 to change modes and bands. F3=Append Data: Add new data to the databases. This feature is identical to the manual update in previous version of LOGPlus!. F9=Index Order: This allows you to change the index order as well as the order of the display. Enter=Editor: The editor will allow you to quickly modify ALL data fields associated with the record currently highlighted. C> Printing =-=-=-=-=-=- Printing will allow you to print the data in 7 different index orders. Each award printed will consist of a cover sheet which contains basic information necessary to submit most awards. If this form is not satisfactory, you'll need to develop your own. Each award will print out 50 contacts per page. At the bottom of each page a listing of the number of contacts per page and the overall total of contacts is printed. D> Indexing =-=-=-=-=-=- Recreate the generic award index (.NSX) file. This is necessary only if data becomes corrupt. M> Dumb Terminal Program (DTP) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Dumb Terminal Program (DTP) is a powerful module offering flexibility, power and a wealth of features. The main objective of the DTP is to provide a sound interface between all the popular TNC's and their internal programming. Please refer to your TNC manual for command and control. Remember, the DTP is general in nature and is NOT limited to PacketCluster monitoring only. Any mode your TNC can operate on, can be accessed thru the DTP program. When you access the DTP for the first time, you'll need to provide the program will default parameters. This feature can be accessed at anytime by pressing ALT_O from within the DTP. For program control see Help! (ALT_H) for additional information. Status Line (bottom line) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -66- LOGPlus! version 3.0 ALT_H = Help!³Cap Off³Prntr Offline³PCluster Off³Alarm Off³Spoct Inactive The status line provides the current status of the Data Capture, Printer, PacketCluster link, alarm and special spot status. Main (center) section =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Main section is used for data processing (send/receive) as well as pop up windows and other related information. The size of this window has been defaulted to line 0 column 0 to line 23 column 79. However, the size is effected by the PacketCluster and Radio switches. PacketCluster =-=-=-=-=-=-= PacketCluster by AK1A has become a major operating tool in nearly every serious DX'er shack. With this tool, features had to be developed to provide as much of a seemless monitoring operation as well as the ability to check spots for various award information. Version 3, has been developed to provide a powerful interface which is user friendly and flexibly. PacketCluster monitoring is provided in the dumb terminal program as well as the Realtime and Offair logging modules. During a spot, LOGPlus! will quickly determine the DXCC country of the spot, report if the country is needed as a new DXCC country as well as report IOTA and GRID information. However, there are always limitations and parameters which must be met for these features to work. Overall, the DXCC country section is seemless and requires no special features to operate. During a typical DX spot, the top portion of the DTP screen will look something like this: Date: 08/23/93 Time: 1414Z DX: DL3NY Freq: 7003.3 Country: DL - Germany Zone: 14/24 Cont: Eu Modes: CW SSB RTY MIX Bands: 160 80 40 30 20 17 15 12 10 6 2 SAT The Modes and Bands will be hightlighted if the country is needed. In addition two additional features have been added which will assist in the tracking of your GRIDS and IOTA awards. These features do require special consideration and are explained in detail. Examples: DX de KD7P: 50110.0 W1NG CN99 Ken good signal. 1414Z DX de KD7P: 14086.7 VE7IU NA033 Rees on XYZ Isl. 1414Z or DX de KD7P: 14086.7 VE7IU IOTA NA033 Rees XYZ Isl. 1414Z Basically, the GRID/IOTA combination must be the first set of -67- LOGPlus! version 3.0 characters sent in the comment field. We must also try to discourage the use of "-" or spaces within the combination. (i.e. NA-033 or NA 033). If we can establish this basic format, LOGPlus! will be extremely successful in providing up to the second information. IOTA - To support the ever popular IOTA system, I have provided a means in which the IOTA database (IOTA.DBF) will automatically be checked if an IOTA REFNO (EU001) is reported in the comment field. With the many methods in which data is reported in the comment field, I can not provided any assurances this system will work 100% at all times. The following will work: If the first 4 characters in the comment field or after the word IOTA are either EU001, eu-001, EU-5, EU 5, EU 001 etc. the program will extract the data and alerting provided. ( Basically, any upper/lower case combination ). Notification will be given in the upper left hand corner next to the date field in flashing GREEN. See below for example. REFNO STATUS BLOCK OF IOTA.DBF ===================================== EU001(N) >> Not found in database -- Needed EU001(A) >> Found -- Approved EU001(S) >> Found -- Submitted EU001(C) >> Found -- Confirmed EU001(W) >> Found -- Worked GRIDS - Each time a 6 or 2 meter spot is reported, the first 4 characters of the comment field will be checked against the appropriate database. (VUCC50 or VUCC144 if previously created). Notification will be given in the upper right hand corner next to the frequency field in flashing GREEN. See below for example. GRID STATUS BLOCK IN VUCC50.DBF ===================================== CN89(N) >> Not found in database -- Needed CN89(A) >> Found -- Approved CN89(S) >> Found -- Submitted CN89(C) >> Found -- Confirmed CN89(W) >> Found -- Worked Overall, the PacketCluster system will provide a wealth of information quickly and effectively. CTRL_F1 Radio Interface =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -68- LOGPlus! version 3.0 Toggle switch which will turn ON/OFF radio interface. Periodically, it may be necessary to toggle this on/off a few times to "WAKE UP" the radio! CTRL_F2 Change Frequency =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This feature is extremely important! When a frequency is entered, the program will automatically default to VFO A (Kenwood Only). If the currently displayed VFO is B, you'll not notice any screen changes. The following formats can be used to change frequencies: A14.023 = Change VFO A to 14.023 14.023 = Change VFO A to 14.023 B14.023 = Change VFO B to 14.023 14 = Change VFO A to 14.000 CTRL_F3 Change Modes =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This is a toggle switch which will cycle through the available modes on your radio. CTRL_F4 Change VFOs (Kenwood Only) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Toggle switch which will change between VFO A and B or vice versa. CTRL_F5 Up Freq (10Hz) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Change VFO frequency by 10Hz upwards. CTRL_F6 Dn Freq (10Hz) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Change VFO frequency by 10Hz downwards. CTRL-F7 Drop to DOS Shell =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Allows full DOS access. Type EXIT and press ENTER to return to LOGPlus! CTRL_F8 thru CTRL_F10 External Programs =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= See ALT_N Program Default Parameters for general use. ALT_F1 Turn PacketCluster On/Off =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Toggle switch which turn PacketCluster On/Off. Screen size will change depending on toggle. ALT_F2 Packet Spot Browse =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -69- LOGPlus! version 3.0 Each time a SPOT is displayed, the information is automatically saved to the PacketCluster database file (PACKET.DBF). The major purpose of this is to provide a FAST method of checking what was reported without clogging the PacketCluster system with SH/DX requested. F2=Delete Entry: Delete currently highlighted entry. F3=Delete ALL: Delete ALL entries in file. F5=Date Order: Rearrange spots in date-time order. F6=DX Order: Rearrange spots in dxcc order. F7=Need Order: Rearrange spots in needed order. F8=Freq Order: Rearrange spots in frequency order. F9=Print: Print complete listing of all spots in database. F10=Reindex Recreate the PACKET.NSX file. ALT_F4 Packet Spot Announcement =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Once in a while you have the opportunity to report on the PacketCluster DX which you SPOT and no one else. Rather than type out the DX de line and make sure you format it correctly, LOGPlus! provides you with a quick and easy way to enter and transmit the data. Remember one thing, when you use this feature, the data you transmit will also display on your screen. This may cause your PacketCluster Alarm to sound! In addition, if you're using the radio interface, the frequency from the radio will be read into the spot frequency field. Here is a sample screen of the PacketCluster SPOT. [ Packet SPOT Announcement ] DXStation: KD7P/NH7 Spot Freq: 14023.0 Comments: Excellent signal QSX up 5 Once you press , the data is automatically sent. DX de AA6TT: 14023.0 KD7P/NH7 Excellent signal QSX up 5 1242Z ALT_F5 Packet TALK ( Realtime and OffAir Logging ONLY) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= At times you may which to TALK with another station who is logged into the PacketCluster system while in the logging modules. -70- LOGPlus! version 3.0 [ Packet Talk ] Station: JH1ORA Comment: HELLO KAZ-SAN! DID YOU WORK THE P5? Enter the station callsign followed by a 60 character comment line. Each time the key is pressed the data will be transmitted on the system. ALT_F6 Packet Spot SetUp =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Packet Spot SetUp screen will allow you to set "SWITCHES" to report DX on particular band and modes. This is an excellent method of removing unwanted spots from bands you don't operate on. In addition, you can quickly establish frequency parameters depending on your operating technics. Examples: Your a CW operator and could careless about SSB or RTTY spots. By turning OFF all the SSB and RTTY alarms, only spots which fall within the established frequency parameters for CW will sound the alarm. Warning: DO NOT overlap frequencies. As a standard default to alarm sounding, only those countries which are needed will set the alarm off. However, a switch has been provided which will allow you to also sound the alarm if the country is worked by not confirmed. In addition to that, three additional switches have been provided which will allow you to turn on or off IOTA and GRID search. Check IOTA status? << If you're an IOTA chaser, turn this on Check 6m grid status? << If you're a 6 mtr grid chaser, turn this on. Check 2m grid status? << If you're a 6 mtr grid chaser, turn this on. ALT_F7 Special Spot Filter =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- One of the new features to LOGPlus! is the ability to FLAG spots which will automatically sound your "CHARGE" alarm. The best way to describe this feature is by example. Example: You are one of those individuals who has nearly everything. You've worked the 3Y0/P before but when the next DXPedition comes up you want to be ready. The special spot filter system will allow you to enter any call or prefix. Whenever that call or prefix is reported on the system, the program will sound the alarm. This is a totally separate system from Packet alarm system. In addition, whenever a special call is pending in the queue, the screen will display -71- LOGPlus! version 3.0 Spot Active! in the right hand corner. No calls in the queue, will show Spot Inactive. ALT_F8 Packet Sound On/Off =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Toggle switch to turn sound On/Off. Each time a SPOT which you need is reported, a "CHARGE" tone will be sounded until you turn it off by using either ALT_F8 or ALT_F9. By using ALT_F8 the sound will be silenced until ALT_F8 is pressed again. If you're busy doing something else around the shack or house, you may miss a rare one! I use this at nights when I'm ready to turn in. Obviously my XYL gets mightily upset at 3AM when the computer starts YAPP'n! ALT_F9 Packet Silencer (Current Spot Only) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- As a TEMPORARY alternative to ALT_F8, I've added this switch to turn off sound just for the previously displayed SPOT. This way, when the next SPOT is reported and you need it, you'll be alerted. NOTE: The "CHARGE" sound will not stop until you stop it with either ALT_F8 or ALT_F9. When you're not home make sure you use ALT_F8 so you're XYL or OM doesn't throw your system out the window! ALT_F10 Packet Commands ( Realtime and OffAir Logging ONLY ) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Packet Commands line allows you to query the PacketCluster for information like DX, WWV information or general database information while in the logging modules. [ Packet Commands ] Enter Command: SH/DX/5 Each time the key is pressed the data will be transmitted on the system. Your query if entered correctly will be promptly answered by the PacketCluster system. ALT_A Display SunRise/SunSet for Cities =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Display a standard browse/modify screen which displays over 295 cities throughout the world. See the DX Century Club (DXCC) section for general information on use. ALT_B Scroll Buffer =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= LOGPlus! will store the last 6,000 characters received in a buffer for quick viewing. Use standard keys described in the first section of this manaul to get around. No editing features are provided, viewing only. -72- LOGPlus! version 3.0 ALT_C Clear Screen =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Clear the data input window. ALT_D DXCC Four Others =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DXCC Four Others is a new feature added to LOGPlus! v3 to allow LOGPlus! users the ability to share DXCC information. This is particularly useful for those individuals who do not have access to a PacketCluster but a near by friend does. Under the Program Default Options (ALT_O - Main Menu), you have the ability to enter up to 4 callsigns. This information is important to the DXCC Four Others to function. In addition, a few very important procedures MUST be followed for this to work. how it works =-=-=-=-=-=- KW7Y/Paul and KD7Z/Jack are very interested in DX chasing but don't have access to a PacketCluster. They usually pass around the PAPER DXCC listing out to friends asking them to call when DX they need is reported. The DXCC Four Others removes the PAPER! Under the Program Defaul Options, you entered: Call sign of 1st DXCC databases: KW7Y Call sign of 2nd DXCC databases: KD7Z Call sign of 3rd DXCC databases: Call sign of 4th DXCC databases: Next you MUST get a copy of their DXCC.DBF and DXCC.NSX files. They MUST be renamed to the call sign, and copied into your \PLUSV3 directory. Example: Rename KW7Y's DXCC.DBF and DXCC.NSX to KW7Y.DBF and KW7Y.NSX. Rename KD7Z's DXCC.DBF and DXCC.NSX to KD7Z.DBF and KD7Z.NSX. From this point on, whenever you press ALT_D, the screen will display the DXCC statistics for the SPOT reported. NOTE: YOU CAN NOT MODIFY THEIR FILES. IF THEY MAKE CHANGES YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN NEW COPIES. MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR DXCC.DBF FILE PERIODICALLY IF YOU USE THIS FEATURES TO REDUCE THE POSSIBILITIES OF ACCIDENTLY OVERWRITING YOUR OWN DXCC.DBF AND DXCC.NSX FILES!!! ALT_F Data File Capture =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -73- LOGPlus! version 3.0 Data File Capture allows you to save data as it comes in. Just enter the file name you wish the data to be saved to. Next time you press the ALT_F key, the file will be closed and saved to your hard drive. ALT_H Help! =-=-=-=-=-= Basic help screen listing the programmed function keys. ALT_J Jump to Spot =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Jump to Spot is used inconjunction with your attached Kenwood or ICOM radio. Whenever a spot is reported over the PacketCluster, the ALT_J key will cause your radio to shift to the frequency of the spot. ALT_K KeyMenu - Programmable Keys (F1 thru F10) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= One of the powerful features of LOGPlus! is the ability to program your F keys to reduce typing. Radioteletype operations (ASCII, BAUDOT,GTOR,PTOR etc..) will benefit the most from these keys. how it works =-=-=-=-=-=- Programming any of the F keys is easy. Just type in the information you want to send, it's that basic. However, one of the added features new to version 3, is the ability to send files as well as plain text. 7 standard text files can be created and sent. These file can be any length, but must be named as one of the following and be located in your \PLUSV3 directory. CQ.DTP RYRY.DTP TEST.DTP GEN.DTP BRAG.DTP DX.DTP INFO.DTP In addition, it's extremely important you TNC has HARDWARE CONTROL capabilities and they be used. On the PK232 units, under the options (ALT_O), set Terminal xon/xoff to YES. During the file transfer, you'll notice the screen periodically halt output while the TNC buffer empties. Also, you may notice GARBLE on your screend during the transfer, this is a resolve of ECHOing back to the screen from the TNC. It is NOT what is being transmitted. Here is an example on programming the F1 key to send the BRAG tape out: F1 : Here is my brag tape \\BRAG ^ -74- LOGPlus! version 3.0 The two backwards slant bars are REQUIRED to transmit a file. This is a delimiter which tells LOGPlus! that the following is a text file which should be sent. The "^" caret key (SHIFT 6) is a CRLF which will be transmitted. NOTE: After you save and exit the KeyMenu function, the "^" will be converted by LOGPlus! to another ASCII character. This is normal and should not be changed back. Here is an example on programming the F2 key to send a SHOW DX to PacketCluster node: F2 : SH/DX^ ALT_L Logging Module =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- A popular feature in version 2, this feature provide a quick and easy way to enter QSOs into your logging module. QSOs are saved to the LOGTEMP file and updated to the general log only after the user enters the realtime logging module. ALT_O Options/Parameters =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 1. Terminal comm port: - Select the COM port which your TNC is connected to. You'll notice that only those ports which the program could recognized are selectable. IRQ's can not be selected. 2. Terminal baud rate: - Select the baud rate your TNC can operate at. The highest baud rate (usually 9600) is recommended. If your TNC can accept data faster, then select that speed. NOTE: KAM Users: I have found at least with frameware v3.0 that the "*" function does not work correctly. If your KAM does not respond, change the baud rate and try again. The ABAUD command of the KAM and the Terminal Baud Rate MUST match. 3. Terminal data bits: - Select the data bits best suited for your TNC. 8 is the common data bits used by most TNCs. 4. Terminal parity: - Select the parity best suited for your TNC. NONE is the common parity used by most TNCs. 5. Terminal stop bits: - Select the stop bits best suited for your -75- LOGPlus! version 3.0 TNC. 1 is the common stop bits used by most TNCs. 6. Terminal xon/xoff: - This feature is related to flow control. To start off set xon/xoff to "N". If you run into difficulties or data is lost between the TNC and LOGPlus! shift this to "Y". Your TNC manual will explain xon/xoff for your particular unit. 7. Terminal rts/cts: - This is the REQUEST TO SEND/CLEAR TO SEND control line. Most TNC's will not require this feature. This has been added "JUST IN CASE" your TNC requires software control. The default is "N". Your TNC manual will explain RTS/CTS for your particular unit. 8. Terminal dtr/dsr: - This is the DATA TERMINAL READY/DATA SEND READY control line. Most TNC's will not require this feature. This has been added "JUST IN CASE" your TNC requires software control. The default is "N". Your TNC manual will explain DTR/DSR for your particular unit. 9. Radio interface installed: - If you wish to utilize the DTP for controlling your radio, turn this feature ON. Only limited control is provided. 10. Radio attached: - Select the type of radio attached. 11. Radio comm port: - Specify the comm port of your radio. If radio interface (9 above) is "YES", you must specify a comm port different from the TNC. If 9. above is "N", select the same com port. 12. Radio baud rate: - This is defaulted to 4800 per the IF-232c manual. Unless you've physical modified the circuit board of the IF-232c, leave this at 4800. 13. Radio data bits: - This is defaulted to 7 per the IF-232c manual. 14. Radio parity: - This is defaulted to NONE per the IF-232c manual. 15. Radio stop bits: - This is defaulted to 2 per the IF-232c manual. 16. Local Echo: - Local Echo allows you to echo back to the DTP everything you type. This can also be set in your TNC. If you receive DOUBLE CHARACTERS during data input, turn this feature OFF. 17. Add LF to CR: - Some TNCs strip the Carriage Return from incoming data. If this occurs, turn this feature ON. ALT_P Printing =-=-=-=-=-=-=- Toggle switch to allow incoming and outgoing data to be sent to the -76- LOGPlus! version 3.0 printer. This is a virtual system whereby all data inputted by the keyboard will be sent to the printer, this means BACKSPACES also! If this feature is turned ON and no printer is found, the program WILL NOT crash. Status line will update accordingly. ALT_R Return from Spot =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Once you've Jump to a Spot, by pressing the ALT_R keys your radio will return to the previous frequency displayed. However, if you pressed the ALT_J keys more than once, this feature will not work. ALT_S Send File =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= DTP allows you to transmit ASCII files to other users. When ALT_S is pressed, a pop up window will allow you to select the file you wish to transmit. If the file you wish to transmit is not in the current directory, by pressing ALT_P you can change the PATH the program will search. You can also select only those extension files you want to display by using the ALT_M and specifying a MASKING. NOTE: It may be necessary to use the xon/xoff and dts/dtr features of this program depending on your TNC. It may take a few tries before you get a hang of it. Your TNC manual will expand upon this. See ALT_P Options/Parameters for additional information. ALT_T HamBase =-=-=-=-=-=-= Run HamBase in a DOS environment. See Program Default Options ALT_U SAM =-=-=-=-= Run SAM in a DOS environment. See Program Default Options ALT_V BuckMaster =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Run BuckMaster in a DOS environment. See Program Default Options ALT_W QRZ =-=-=-=-= Run QRZ in a DOS environment. See Program Default Options ALT_X Exit to log =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Exit to log closes the communications port and clears all open files. NOTE: Even though you are required to establish a packet link in the DTP prior to entering the Realtime and OffAir modules, this will NOT disconnect you from the PacketCluster. Once you've entered the logging module, the link between the software and TNC is reestablished. Incoming -77- LOGPlus! version 3.0 data maybe lost depending on the type of TNC. However, if you sent XFLOW OFF in your TNC, data will in most cases print out to your terminal as soon as the comm port is reopened. Call sign of 1st/4th DXCC databases: =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This is a new feature which allows you to assist your friends with their DXCC award. In the dumb terminal program, this is called DXCC Four Others. DXCC Four Others is a new feature added to LOGPlus! v3 to allow LOGPlus! users the ability to share DXCC information. This is particularly useful for those individuals who do not have access to a PacketCluster but a near by friend does. how it works =-=-=-=-=-=- KW7Y/Paul and KD7Z/Jack are very interested in DX chasing but don't have access to a PacketCluster. They usually pass around the PAPER DXCC listing out to friends asking them to call when DX they need is reported. The DXCC Four Others removes the PAPER! To assist they gentlemen, I would entered: Call sign of 1st DXCC databases: KW7Y Call sign of 2nd DXCC databases: KD7Z Call sign of 3rd DXCC databases: Call sign of 4th DXCC databases: Next you MUST get a copy of their DXCC.DBF and DXCC.NSX files. They MUST be renamed to the call sign, and copied into your \PLUSV3 directory. Example: -81- LOGPlus! version 3.0 Rename KW7Y's DXCC.DBF and DXCC.NSX to KW7Y.DBF and KW7Y.NSX. Rename KD7Z's DXCC.DBF and DXCC.NSX to KD7Z.DBF and KD7Z.NSX. From this point on, whenever you press ALT_D is pressed in the dumb terminal program when pack spotting is on, the screen will display the DXCC statistics for the SPOT reported. LOGPlus! Drive/Directory =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- LOGPlus! can be loaded in a sub-directory; however, this is not recommended. If you're determined to load this program in a sub-directory make sure you provide the exact drive and directory for the program. You will also need to re-create all the \LOGx\ sub-directories OFF the sub-directory you move LOGPlus! to. You will also need to create \NOTES\ and \HELP\. DEFAULT: \PLUSV3\ HAMBase/SAM/BuckMaster/QRZ/Ext. Program 1/2/3 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= NOTE: HAMBase, SAM, BuckMaster and QRZ run the actual executionable file for these awards. it's extremely important you following these instruction closely. This information also effects the three Ext. Programs which will be explained. LOGPlus! has the ability to jump directly into DOS and run external programs without effecting the execution of the log. Because of the various renaming which has gone on in various QSL Manager programs such as HamBase, SAM etc... It became difficult to write an effective interface which would automatically extract data from these databases and input them into LOGPlus!. Because of this, it was necessary to provide QUICK access only. When entering data in the Hambase, SAM, BuckMaster and QRZ fields, its extremely important you not only provide the drive and directory, but also the executionable file name. Example: SAM is located on your D: hard drive in the \SAM\ directory. The .COM or .EXE file to run SAM is called SAM.EXE. In the SAM Drive/Directory field I would enter: C:\SAM\SAM | | | -82- LOGPlus! version 3.0 hard drive ------| | |------- .EXE file name. directory -----------| Example: You'd like to run both GEOCLOCK and MINIPROP from within LOGPlus!. In the Ext. Program fields I would enter: E:\RADIO\GEOCLK\GEOCLK | | | | hard drive ------| | | |------- .EXE file name. directory -----------| | sub-directory--------------| E:\RADIO\MINI\MP | | | | hard drive ------| | | |------- .EXE file name. directory -----------| | sub-directory ------------| When the associated ALT key is pressed from the main menu, logging modules or dumb terminal program, the EXE file will be executed. CT by K1EA Drive/Directory =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Enter the drive and directory LOGPlus! can find the B2R9.EXE program in. If you don't have the program enter the same drive and directory as you did for LOGPlus! See Contest Conversions for additional information. DEFAULT: C:\CT\ O> Database Backup (ZIP/ARC) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= To provide flexibility and ease of operation, a backup feature has been written into LOGPlus!. Any file can be archived quickly and easy and saved to a drive of your choosing. The file PKZIP.EXE, LHARC.EXE or ARJ.EXE (depending on the method used) MUST be found in a directory specified in your AUTOEXEC.BAT PATH line (PATH=C:\UTILITY; etc..), if not, no action will be taken. The file BACKUP.BAT MUST be found in the \PLUSV3 directory. Using the file BACKUP.BAT, you can specify which file(s) to back up. If you use the COPY command within the .BAT file, you MUST insure: 1> a disk has been placed in the drive specified 2> the disk is FORMATTED 3> the disk must contain sufficient space for the file, if not, a CRASH will occur. -83- LOGPlus! version 3.0 Example (1): BACKUP.BAT << Using PKZIP.EXE PKZIP DBFAD1C *.DBF << Create file DBFAD1C.ZIP with DBF files. PKZIP NTXAD1C *.NTX << Create file NTXAD1C.ZIP with NTX files. COPY B:DBFAD1C.ZIP << Copy DBFAD1C.ZIP to drive B:. Example (2): BACKUP.BAT << Using PKZIP.EXE PKZIP AD1C *.* << Create file AD1C with ALL files located in the current directory. P> Global Database Indexing =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Global Indexing provides a quick and easy way to update ALL index files (.NSX) associated with LOGPlus!. No action is required by the users other than pressing the appropriate selection key. Index files are used to rearrange data for quick access. LOGPlus! utilizes a couple of different indexing methods which makes these .NSX files incompatible with previous versions. Encryption as well as BINARY conversions are used in an effort to reduce file size. IMPORTANT NOTE: If for some reason you decided to DELETE .DBF files from your hard drive, make sure you delete the associated .NSX files. -84- LOGPlus!
