Welcome to SETVERM! I am proud to present this program to you! I am sure that it will help you to overcome your DOS-version problems. Here are some more notes: INSTALLATION: SETVERM can be installed in three ways. In your CONFIG.SYS, in your AUTOEXEC.BAT and from the Prompt. Copy SETVERM.EXE into your utility or dos directory. Put in your CONFIG.SYS something like: DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\SETVERM.EXE The exact place is of no importance. When installed from your CONFIG.SYS SETVERM only uses 130h bytes of memory space. That's only half SETVER uses. Put it in your AUTOEXEC.BAT like: C:\DOS\SETVERM.EXE Or just type 'SETVERM' from the prompt. In the last two cases. SETVERM uses about 240h bytes of memory. Unlike SETVER, SETVERM does not need any information from you about what DOS-Versions it has got to report to your programs. Install and forget. It is ready to install and needs no maintainage. SHAREWARE: This program is shareware. You can copy and distribute it. If you experience this utility as useful, a small contribution whould be greatly appreceated. TROUBLESHOOTING: Sometimes SETVERM is not able to find out the right DOS version. Running the troubling program twice might solve the program. DR DOS and Novell DOS SETVERM is adapted to DR-DOS/NovellDos applications. You can exchange programms with Dr-DOS systems! Heavy tasks (Like TASKMAX) are not supported. (This task asks to specificed support from the system.) Both NovellDos 7.0 and DrDos 6.0 are supported by SETVERM, but not simutaneously. You need to configure SETVERM for use with NovellDos OR DrDos. SETVERM can be adapted by the with it delivered PATCHVER.EXE or by adjusting the SETVERM.ASM file. Type: PATCHVER /D for configuring for DrDos, and PATCHVER /N for configuring for NovellDos. (Changing ASM file is documented in the ASM file itself. Therafter is should be re-assembled.) Programs like this are designed to let progams work under a Dos version they are not written for. Mainly this will be no problem, but sometimes it gives incompatability problems. There is no SETVERM that can overcome such pro- blems. You just need that complete DOS version. You should not use PKLITE, LZEXE or other executable-shrinking program on SETVERM. When this is used on it, it is not likely to work as a device driver anymore. Unshrinking is the solution then. When shrinked it will only work as TSR. If you have a major problem: Contact me!
