B Y T E M A N A G E R v1.0 á-021 Birthday Edition ======================================================= 06-29-1997 Made by : Peter Tamas Toth E-mail: toth-peter@usa.net Basic description: -------------------- DOS shell (file manager, commander) and disk database program in one. The program's duty: - to satisfy all operations can be done with files (such as copying, de- leting, moving, (de)compressing etc.) more comfortable and quicker than by DOS commands - to store and catalogize the programs and its characteristic (small des- cription, startfile, size, availible sound cards etc.) It was a general purpose on developing BM not to exceed the size 100kB (some resembling creation broasting from 1 to 5 megabytes of reserved space) so it can be placed comfortably to a "survivor" DOS-disk. It was compiled by Pascal and contains many assembly routines. Tested on 386/486/586/Pentium MGA/CGA/VGA configurations, but also runs on 286 and EGA. This version of Byte Manager is FREEWARE ! Features of the BYTE MANAGER: ------------------------------- - Dinamic use of memory, uses XMS - Direct disk access when deleting from a floppy or copying to a floppy disk. Speed increases up to ca.500%! Keeps the first character of the file name which loses when deleting the file :-o - CD-ROM functions (playing audio, moving tray) - Recognizes CD-ROM emulators, NETWORK drives - Handles SUBST'ed drives - Recognizes resursive copying - Handles Microsoft Windows '95 long filenames - Drag-and-Drop technology (Copy/erase/rename) - Availible screen modes: 80x25,80x28,80x30,80x50 - Uses 16 foreground and 16 background colors in text mode which can be selected from a palette of 262144 colors - Smooth scrolling text view function 8-> - Always shows the free space, the name and size of the disk, the current directory or the number and total size of marked files, the free con- ventional and XMS memory as well as the time - Beyond the formers free space on disk in clusters as well as space re- servation of marked files in clusters of the other panel. - When copying, a diagram shows where it lasts in the current file. And an other one represents the copied bytes till that time. When deleting or renaming you can only see a running through stripe depending on the performed job - Attach programs relying upon extensions - Creates image file from a floppy disk (Alt-F5 Floppy format), and wri- tes image file to a floppy (Alt-F6) - Reads ARJ,RAR,PKZIP compressed and the Floppy formats and there's a chance to view, delete and copy also in the these files - Beyond the formers handles the AIN,LHARC,UC2 and other user defined formats (only compressing and decompressing) - Scans the compression programs automatically on the hard drive - The SET, PATH commands of DOS modifies the global environment variables so they takes affection even after exiting the program - Shows serial numbered files in due course Files: -------- BMMAIN .EXE - Main program (Not startfile! Use directly only to create the file BM.BAT) INSTALL .EXE - Installation program STV .EXE - Smooth Text Viewer v3.0.3 BYTEMNGR.DOC - This file --------------------------- 4 files : 84577 bytes BM .BAT - Startfile. If you want to move BM to a new directory, delete this file and run BMMAIN.EXE! Or you can use INSTALL.EXE. In this cases the BM.BAT will be created automatically. BYTE .DAT - Datafile BYTEMNGR.BAT - Stays in memory and reserves max. 128 bytes. (Temporary) * .COL - Color and palette settings * .BMD - Stores labels, program names and paths * .PBM - Contains characteristics of programs Usage: -------- ESC : Turns on/off the DOS commandline SPACE : Turns on DOS commandline with deleting its contents DOS commandline operations: BackSpace : Deletes the char before the cursor Ctrl-Backsp : Deletes the word before the cursor Ctrl+<-,-> : Jumps a word forward/backward Shift+Up/Dn : Previous commands Ctrl-Home : Jumps to the beginning of the line Ctrl-End : Jumps to the end of the line Ctrl-ENTER : Name of the current file Shift-ENTER : Same as previous but also including path Others: ENTER : Enters into a directory and executes a program respectively TAB : Swithes between the two filepanel Shift-TAB : List of programs on the current drive <-,-> : Selection up/down Shift+<-,-> : Unselection up/down letter : Quick file searcher on current panel Shift+letter : Changing drive on current panel Backspace : Steps a directory back * : Inverts file seletion INS : Turns on/off selections, moving down continuous Alt-A : Switches to actual direcory on the other panel Alt-L : List Mode (for example long filenames) Alt-O : DOS Scr-Shows DOS screen Alt-R : Rereads drive Alt-S : Execute the screensaver Alt-T : Rereads drive on the other panel Alt-X : Exits BM Alt+num : HotDirs-Quick Directories Access Ctrl+Alt+num : Puts current directory to quick direcory list F1 : Help -Help F2 : Prg-s -All the programs in datafile F3 : View -Text viewer (External prg.)
