SPECIAL ADVISORY FOR THE HALE-BOPP EDITION ------------------------------------------ Before you dive into this version of Coeli, it is only fair that we point out the presence of a known bug associated with the late addition of the Hale-Bopp comet display honouring the fast approaching millennial celestial event of this spring and summer 1997... The bug takes the form of an occasional/intermittent floating point error, with no apparent regular logic or cause. It occurs principally when animating Solar System bodies or with certain of Coeli's time-advance funtions. We should like to make it known at the outset that pressing [alt]+[c] will banish the bug forever, since it is associated with our last-minute addition of comet displays, and [alt]+[c] is the way to toggle these displays on and off... Needless to say, we are working on this minor problem and should have it fixed by the next Coeli update. However, this would have been too late for Hale-Bopp. We debated long and hard whether to incorporate the comet's display in this particular release, as against simply forgetting about it, and settled resoundingly on its inclusion. The most efficient means of tracking such a significant and not-to-be-repeated-in-our-lifetimes astronomical event should be accessible to the maximum number of people. Now, with Coeli installed on your computer, you are one of that number. Welcome. Swimming Elk Software.
