vfast 1.5 Added /c option to reconfigure the irq and base address of the serial port. Added a turbo mode. This is asked for by the receiver. Only versions 1.5 or higher will ask for it. Turbo mode uses data reduction to give you a slight boost in transfer speed. The difference at 14.4 is only about 20 cps but at 28.8 it can be as much as 400 cps. One question we've been asked over and over is how fast? At 14.4 with a 57.6 serial rate you should see rates of 1720 to 1730, ymodem-g would give you 1670-1680 on the same file based on our method of computing cps rates. If you do not get these rates on 60/400K Zip files, your system just isn't fast enough to handle the data flow. CPU speed by itself has little to do with this. A 386/SX 16 can obtain these rates. A combination of memory manager, cache software, uart, serial rate, operating system, etc. all tie together. One or more could be responsable. At 28.8, you should see rates close to or exceeding 3550 cps. vfast 1.4 Reduce the time delay for unregistered demo to 10 seconds. Put a notice on the screen showing the only OFFICAL distrubtion site for vfast. vfast 1.3 Added two new command line switches, -! and -W See vfast.doc for details. vfast 1.2 Change the non-registered timer at the end of the transfer from 60 seconds to 30 seconds. Speeded up transfers on compressed files a bit. Speeded up transfers on NON-compressed files using v42bis and serial rates of at least 115.2 vfast 1.1 Speeded up source code. vfast 1.0 Initial release.
