This is identification service is provided by your local telephone company's central office, if they have modern switching equipment. Many lower traffic communities do not provide this service yet due to the expense of the equipment and labor involved in installing the newer telephone switching systems. If your local telephone company's central office does not provide Caller ID service (also called ICLID - Incoming Call Line Identification), you will not be able to use this software until they are updated. CallInfo is the computer software that displays the caller id information on your computer screen. CallInfo requires a piece of hardware to retrieve the caller id information from the telephone line. CallInfo supports any modem that provides caller id support. To determine if your modem supports caller id, check with the modem manual, dealer, or manufacturer. FEATURES CallInfo is a DOS terminate-and-stay-resident (TSR) program. This allows the program to work in the background without interrupting your computer until you get a telephone call. When your telephone rings, CallInfo jumps into action, retrieving the caller id information from the telephone line. CallInfo will then display the caller id information on your screen for about 30 seconds, then clear the display and restore your screen. INSTALLATION To install CallInfo, copy all of the included files to the subdirectory of your choice. USE CallInfo requires two parameters, the serial port which you modem is connected to and the initialization string you modem requires. C:\CALLINFO>CI 1 "AT&F|~~~AT#CID=1|" ณ ฺฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤฤ serial port ฤู ณ ณ init string ฤฤฤู Serial Port This is the serial port number to which your caller id device is attached. You may specify the serial port as "1", "2", "COM1", or "COM2". Initialization String Place a broken bar (|) in the string where you want a carriage return issued and place a tilde (~) in the string where you want a one second delay. You can find the correct "AT" command to enable caller id by looking in your modem manual under the "AT Command Summary/Descriptions" section. If you cannot find the command there, lookup "Caller ID" in the index of your modem manual. If you cannot find reference to caller id in your manual, your modem probably does not support it. You may want to contact your modem dealer or manufacturer for help. Most modems use "AT#CID=1" or "AT%CCID=1". The example initialization string (AT&F|~~~AT#CID=1|) first restores factory defaults (AT&F), pauses for three seconds, then enables caller id support (AT#CID=1). If you want to run CallInfo from a directory other than the where it is installed, you have two options. First, specify the complete path when it is executed, ie. (\CALLINFO\CI 1 "AT#CID=1"). Alternatively, you may add the directory name that CallInfo is installed in to the PATH statement of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. (You must reboot your PC for changes to your AUTOEXEC.BAT to take effect.) Available command line parameters are: /U Unload (remove) CallInfo from memory. CallInfo must be the last TSR loaded for this to work. "CODE BLUE COMPU" is the name of the party calling you. The telephone company provides only the first fifteen characters of the name. If you get a call from a residential line, you will see the last name then the first name, separated by a space. "(218)233-4476" is the phone number of the party calling you. "10/01 01:00" is the date and time the call was made. This is reported by the telephone company and should be accurate. If for some reason the date and time is not given, the system date and time will be shown. The popup display will remain on screen for approximately 30 seconds, then will be cleared and your screen will be restored.
