Upgrading your Supra modem to 33,600bps. (JHE/ALJ 25Jun96) =============================== This archive includes: this Readme.txt Readme2.txt (instructions for Windows users on using the files in this archive) Changes.txt (what's new since the last version) winflash.exe (Windows only flasher) at336cmd.txt (updated AT command list) Newdrivr.exe (Win95 driver updater app.) EXPORDER.txt (SupraExpress hardware upgrade order form) SFMORDER.txt (SupraFAXModem hardware upgrade order form) mdmsupra.inf (Windows 95 drivers) mdmsupr3.inf " mdmsuprv.inf " serwave.inf " THESE FILES SHOULD NOT BE POSTED ON ANY ONLINE SERVICE OUTSIDE OF THIS ARCHIVE WITHOUT DIRECT PERMISSION FROM DIAMOND MULTIMEDIA *** Important *** If you are using a version of Windows (3.1-95, AND NT) go to the Readme2.txt for instructions on updating your modem with the other files in this archive. If you own a SupraSonic 288V+, SupraFAXModem 288 or SupraExpress 288 and you are not using a version of Windows see the below information on how to update your modem. *** You will need to issue commands to your modem through the use of some terminal emulation software. In this software set your Baud Rate (sometimes called Data Rate) to 38,400bps. Set your Data Bits to 8, your Stops Bits to 1 and your Parity to None. Set your Flow Control to Hardware Handshaking (sometimes called RTS/CTS). Once you have set your software as described above, proceed with Step 1. Step 1 Identify your modem. Issue the command ATI92 (that is the letter "i" not the number "1"). On most 28,800bps Supra modems this will give you the ID for your modem. [Depending upon the current rom revision in your modem you may get ERROR for a response. If that is the case, and your modem is an external unit, you have the SupraFAXModem 288. If you have an internal unit, then you have the SupraFAXModem 288i.] -- The following is a listing of ID's that you may see. Find yours on this list then proceed to Step 2. SUP1330/1 -- SupraSonic 288V+ (external) SUP1200/1 -- SupraFAXModem 288 (external) SUP1290/1 -- SupraFAXModem 288i PnP (internal) SUP1210/1 -- SupraFAXModem 288i (internal) SUP1280/1 -- SupraFAXModem 288 (BZT/German approved version) SUP1250 -- SupraExpress 288 PnP (external) SUP1310 -- SupraExpress 288i PnP (internal) SUP1320 -- SupraExpress 288i PnP (internal) SUP1380 -- SupraExpress 288i Voice (internal) SUP1440 -- Supra 288i Sp (internal) SUP1380 -- SupraExpress 288Vi (internal) SUP1550 -- SupraExpress 288 PnP Intl (external) SUP1560 -- SupraExpress 288i PnP Intl (internal) Step 2 Now that you know what modem you have, you must determine how to upgrade your modem to the latest rom revision. A. If you have a SupraSonic 288V+ and run MS-DOS on your computer, download the MS-DOS flasher utility, named 13314412.exe, found on our online services (see below for specific listings). If you are not running DOS, you can use an XModem file upload method to upgrade your modem. To do so, download 13314412.zip from one of our online services. This archive will include detailed instructions on how to upgrade your modem. Please read them. Upgrade your modem. You're finished !! B. If you have a SupraExpress modem use the table below to determine which Rom Upgrade part number you need to order. Then complete the enclosed order form (EXPORDER.txt) and fax or mail it to us. Upon receipt of your order we will ship you an upgrade kit with detailed installation instructions. Please read them. Upgrade your modem. You're finished !! Modem model ROM Upgrade Part ----------------- ----------------------- SUP1250 SupraExpress 288 PnP (external) B SUP1320 SupraExpress 288i PnP (internal) C SUP1310 SupraExpress 288i PnP (internal) D SUP1380 SupraExpress 288i Voice (internal) E SUP1440 Supra288i Sp (internal) F SUP1550 SupraExpress 288 PnP Intl (external) H SUP1560 SupraExpress 288i PnP Intl (internal) I C. If you have a SupraFAXModem 288, SupraFAXModem 288i, or SupraFAXModem 288i PnP issue the command ATI7 (that is the letter "i" not the number "1"). Proceed to Step 3. Step 3 SupraFAXModems have been made using a couple different datapump revisions. The results from issuing the ATI7 command tell you which datapump was used when manufacturing your modem. The list of possible results are: RC288DPi Rev 05BA RC288DPi Rev 04BC A. If the result from issuing the ATI7 command was RC288DPi Rev 05BA you can use our DOS flasher utility or our XModem file upload method to upgrade your modem to the latest firmware revision and add 33,600 bps capability. If you run MS-DOS on your computer, download the DOS flasher utility, found on our online services (see below for specific listings). If you are not running DOS, you can use an XModem upload method to upgrade your modem. To do so, download the binary archive from one of our online services. Note that the DOS Flasher archives are self-extracting, while the binary archives are not. This will help in distinguishing the two types of archives. DOS Flasher archive | Binary archive SFM 288 12014412.exe 12014412.zip SFM 288i 12114412.exe 12114412.zip SFM 288i PnP 12914412.exe 12914412.zip These archives will include detailed instructions on how to upgrade your modem. Please read them. Upgrade your modem. You're finished !! B. If the result from issuing the ATI7 command was RC288DPi Rev 04BC you can use our DOS flasher utility or our XModem upload method to upgrade your modem to the latest firmware revision. Although you will benefit from most of the improvements made in the new firmware, you will NOT be able to increase the maximum speed of your modem beyond 28,800bps. We encourage you to use the flasher utility and update your modem. Most users will experience improved performance. If you would like to upgrade the datapump in your modem so that your modem can connect at speeds up to 33,600bps, complete the upgrade order form and email or fax it to us. The upgrade is $40 plus shipping and handling charges. There are multiple shipping options which are described in the upgrade order form (SFMORDER.txt). C. If ATI7 reports something other than the two options above you might have a VFC modem. If you do, you CANNOT use the V.34 flasher utilities. Check ATI3 to see if it reports VFC. If you would like to upgrade the datapump in your modem so that your modem will support the V.34 protocol with connection speeds up to 33,600bps, complete the upgrade order form and email or fax it to us. The upgrade is $40 plus shipping and handling charges. There are multiple shipping options which are described in the upgrade order form (SFMORDER.txt). Troubleshooting In order to use the flasher utilities described above it is recommended that your SupraFAXModem have version 1.300-07 or later rom code currently installed. If you have difficulty running the DOS flasher utility or issuing the command that prepares your modem for the XModem upload of the new rom code, launch some terminal emulation software and issue the following command: ATI3 (that is the letter "i" not the number "1"). If your modem reports back version 1.200-02 - V34_DP or earlier you will want to upgrade to version 1.300-13 first, then run then upgrade your modem to the new rom code. Both the DOS flasher utility and the XModem upload file (.sb7) can be downloaded from the Historical Flashers directories on our FTP site and BBS.
