I needed a utility that would help me find the older versions of files which have been upgraded with newer ones. Because filenames are not enough to decide on I also wanted to see the size, date and 1st description line. If my Hard Drive space was getting low I wanted to find the oldest files or which large files were occupying that space. I needed something that would delete the actual file from my hard drive and also delete it's description from my PCBoard DIR. Purge will allow you to handle your file maintenance easier than ever before. The original idea was to find older versions of files which were already on the system. Since then, Purge has development into a essential utility for all PCBoard sysops. What used to take hours with PCBFiler can now be done in just minutes. FEATURES: --------- 1. Easy to use Menus. 2. Allows easy choice of PCBoard DIR to work with. 3. Sort by File Size 4. Sort by File Date 5. Sort by File Name 6. Find older versions of files. 7. Allows viewing of ZIP, ARCS, etc 8. Allows viewing of GIF's 9. Tested with DIR's housing over 2,200 filenames! 10. Tested under Lantastic, Novel, Doorway and DESQview 11. Complete file sharing. Run while other nodes are active 12. Optionally creates ZERO byte file and stamps DELETED into PCBoard DIR 13. Creates .BAK of any DIR processed 14. Optional location of were to place DIR.BAK's. 15. Easy for remote co-sysops to use and understand. 16. Allows use of an excluded file listing for files you never want removed from your system. 17. Full support for CD-Roms. 18. Quick and Easy access to Brent Yandell's PCBFX. DISCLAIMER: ----------- This program is provided "AS IS". No warranty of any kind is expressed or implied. YOU USE THIS PROGRAM AT YOUR OWN RISK. REGISTRATION: ------------- Purge is fully functional as supplied but unregistered users will have one line appended to their DIR stating that Purge has been used to process it. Registration will remove the appended lines from your DIR's automatically. Cost for registration is only $20 and can be easily done by filling out REG.TXT and mailing it to the address shown on the form. QUICKSTART: ----------- WARNING! - This program has the ability to delete files and their descriptions from your system. 1. Edit PURGE.CFG 2. Type PURGE and follow the prompts. SPECIAL NOTES: -------------- 1. For Purge to work correctly your PCBoard DIR *MUST* be sorted by filename. New Upload DIR's are an exception as Purge does not allow you to process them. 2. Your IDX files should be up to date as that's were Purge finds the location of the files on your system. 3. Purge currently excepts 1 command line option, that is the name and location of the CFG file to use. Default is PURGE.CFG in the current directory. This can be helpful if you have more than one conference to process. It also works well if you have a remote sysop that handles files in only one conference area. DETAILS: ------- CFG - The PURGE.CFG contains comment lines which should be self explanatory. DIR SELECTION - After the opening screen is displayed you will be at the DIR choice menu. This screen allows you to choose which DIR to work with. The program has already read your DIR.LST and shows you your available DIR numbers. If you are unsure of which DIR to work with typing the letter L will display a menu for you to choose from. SORT MENU - This screen is were you tell PURGE which type of sorting you want done. For massive file deletion and to gain lots of hard disk space you may choose to sort by File Date or File Size. Choice #4 is used to try and find possible older versions of files in your DIR. It allows you to search the 1st 2 - 7 characters looking for older versions. FILE TAGGING - After entering your choice you will be shown the 1st Description line as seen in your PCB DIR. Pressing the space bar or enter key on any selection will tag that file as a target to be deleted. You can use your up/down arrow keys, page up/down or home/end keys while in this menu. Pressing ALT-V will shell to your external viewer. Pressing ALT-S will allow you to search for text. Pressing ALT-A will repeat your last text search. Pressing ALT-H will call Brent Yandell's PCBFX. (PLEASE NOTE that PCBFX is copyrighted by Yandell Computer Services and although permission has been given to call PCBFX from within PURGE users should register their copy of PCBFX with Yandell Computer Services). Pressing ESCape will save your selections. Pressing F1 will display a quick help window. FILE DELETION - WARNING! - Answering yes will remove files from your hard disk and remove their description from your PCBoard DIR. Answering yes here will PURGE the tagged files and their descriptions from your system.
