PCBFX Version 2.4 Copyright 1992-1996 Yandell Custom Software PCBFX provides a profile report of a file's transfer information such as who uploaded, number of downloads, date of upload, the date of last download, if time / bytes are charged, enough time / bytes, and compressed file information (oldest and newest dates, quantity). PCBFX uses the PCBoard DOWNLOAD.TXT file for this information. A "database" may optionally be made from DOWNLOAD.TXT for instant file profiles. A (T)op download profile may be displayed which shows up to the top 50 (Sysop configurable) downloads on the system. Also available is a Sysop (Z)ippy text search/scan for the DOWNLOAD.TXT file, and a user (Y)our-profile scan where the caller may review their own file transfers. Every option is configurable with the enclosed, easy to use FXSETUP program (some profile scans will not be available, depending on how PCBFX is installed). NOTE: This QUICK.DOC covers basic PCBFX installation for use with the PCBoard file DOWNLOAD.TXT only. Creating and maintaining the optional database for instant profiles and top 50 downloads is not covered here. Refer to PCBFX.DOC for database installation and use. Many other aspects of installing and using PCBFX are described in detail in PCBFX.DOC. QUICK.DOC is not intended as a replacement for PCBFX.DOC. QUICK.DOC allows you to QUICKLY install PCBFX and see its powerful, high quality features. You may then decide if you wish to completely install PCBFX on a customized basis using the detailed information contained in PCBFX.DOC. -[ Step 1 ]---------------- Extract the entire contents of PCBFX23.ZIP into its own location (directory) where doors are generally located on your system. -[ Step 2 ]---------------- The intent in PCBFX is to install it as an "add-on" command on the PCBoard main menu, rather than in a door menu. First decide what you would like this new "command" to be. Some examples: FX - File Xfers FI - File Information FP - File Profile Install a door called FX or whatever you decide to call it into your DOORS.LST file using PCBSETUP. Answer the following questions: USER DOOR Filename Password Sec Login SYS SYS Shell (other parameters) -------- -------- --- ----- --- --- ----- ------------------ #) FX 10 N Y N S (set as needed) * MORE STEPS ON THE NEXT PAGE * -------------------------------------------------------------------- Page 2 PCBFX (Quick DOC) Page 2 -------------------------------------------------------------------- -[ Step 3 ]---------------- Configure a door (batch) file. If the door is named FX the following examples would be the contents of your door file named FX (NOTE: do NOT place an extension such as .BAT on the FX file): (no space here) @echo off || C:\PCBFX\PCBFX.EXE PCBFX.CNF %PCBDRIVE%%PCBDIR% ------------------ --------- ------------------ | | |-> This node's home directory. | | | | | ---------> The name of the configuration | file. Enter a file NAME only. | NEVER place a location here. | -------> The executable file name. Placing its location in-line as shown results in MUCH faster loading time for the program. The two lines above are all that is required to execute PCBFX when running as a SWAPPED SHELL door in PCBoard 14.5a through 15.2x -[ Step 4 ]---------------- Run: FXSETUP.EXE > Pressing F1 while editing a parameter will display a help screen! The F1 help screen displayed at each parameter should be sufficient to install PCBFX on a temporary basis for a quick evaluation. NOTE: Answer the parameter: "Database mode for PCBFX to use" with a "1" (number 1) for this QUICK installation mode. To use the other database modes you MUST refer to PCBFX.DOC. When modifying PCBFX.CNF file(s), use ONLY the enclosed FXSETUP.EXE. There are MANY other features which QUICK.DOC does not cover which enhance PCBFX operation. Instructions for these features are located in PCBFX.DOC and should be reviewed.
